It’s come to this: Stylist goes to jail for defying order to open so she can pay her mortgage and feed her kids

This happened in Texas. Granted it happened in Dallas, which really isn’t part of the real Texas we know anymore.

Shelley Luther, owner of “Salon A La Mode” in North Dallas has bills to pay – and children to feed. She tried to keep her business open and was served a temporary restraining order to close last week and refused.

Shelley was eventually arrested and ended up in court. She was sentenced to 7 days in jail for civil/criminal contempt of court and fined $7,000.

The good judge, Eric Moye, told Shelley at her hearing that “she could avoid jail time if she apologized, admitted she was wrong, and agreed to close her hair salon until it was allowed to open.” He also told her she was being selfish.

Shelley’s response? “Feeding my kids is not selfish.”

Since when do “orders” force one to give up their economic freedoms? The Constitution does not suspend your rights.

Too bad Shelley didn’t own an “ESSENTIAL” business such as a liquor store or an abortion clinic. After all, cutting and coloring hair is SO MUCH more dangerous.

There is a GoFundMe set up for Shelley here.

Washington State goal post moved from “flatten the curve” to “disease burden is low and decreasing” & four other measurements

Failed demorat presidential candidate Gov. Jay Inslee has extended Washington’s “stay at home” order until May 31.

The state has 15,594 confirmed cases with 862 deaths which the majority are confined to the King County (Seattle) area and the few counties below it. Washington state has a population of almost 8 million. You do the math.

Yet they remain in lockdown and will do so for many weeks to come, as outlined in the governor’s new “Safe Start” plan (see graphic above).

While the decision to put the state residents in lockdown was due to the Wuhan virus outbreak at the Life Care Center in Kirkland, it was exacerbated by media fear/hype and the garbage IHME models.

But now the “Safe Start” plan to re-open Washington’s economy is “data-driven,” and a “careful approach” and “thoughtful balance.”

The governor’s four-phase plan includes social distancing measures and health standards. Each phase will be at least three weeks — data and metrics will determine when the state can move from one phase to another.

Reaching phase 2 will have a lot of goal posts: The Wuhan virus disease burden is low and decreasing and the four capabilities (health care system readiness; testing capacity and availability; case and contact investigations; and ability to protect high-risk populations) are met. All these requirements must be met for the next phase to progress.

Read the whole “Safe Start” plan here.

Such a complicated re-opening phase compared to the absolutely quick plan to shut down an entire state. Gee, I wonder why…

A simplistic and juvenile insult of US military

The other day I say this on Twitter:

I thought it was insulting to healthcare workers because they have been at the frontline of this Wuhan virus, as is the job of medical professionals.

Yet depending upon the crisis/situation one may be facing, a hero exists in many aspects of life. For example: healthcare workers, random strangers, lifeguards, a good guy with a gun, EMTs, a tow truck driver and even children.

Then I saw this response to the above photo: “Those who serve in the us military aren’t heroes because anyone can pull a trigger.”

Way to belittle Americans defending your First Amendment freedom by using an insult to respond to an insult. So juvenile yet expected from progressives.

Just because one may be able “pull a trigger” doesn’t mean they are capable of doing so. See the following examples (second video NSFW due to language):

For the proggies in the second video: TAKE FIREARM SAFETY TRAINING SERIOUSLY. (BTW, this instructor completely FAILED in teaching these people trigger finger control!!!) If anyone can pull a trigger, you can learn the basics of firearm safety before shooting those scary guns, right?

Once these proggies have mastered how to “pull a trigger,” maybe they’ll enlist and learn other military basics: Communication, patrol, recon, cover and conceal, metric measurements, fire distribution and control, standoff advantage, first aid, survival skills (shelter, food, water, purification, etc.), waste disposal, position and location and land navigation (learn to use a compass!), weapons maintenance, rifle marksmanship, firearm and buddy tactics, infantry combat, vehicle maintenance, electronics, and so many, many other very important battlefield skills that will save your life and those of your fellow soldiers.

What do ‘ya know? It does take a lot more than being able to “pull a trigger” to serve in the military.

But that’s the beauty in the asinine things I see on Twitter: You can make insulting comments and get lots of likes for it, yeah! You’re special!!

Ain’t America great?

Mayor Lori Lightfoot Warns Stay-At-Home Violators: ‘We Will Take You To Jail, Period!’

From the mayor who violated her own social distancing rules in order to get HER hair cut. After all, SHE’S in the public eye so she be special.

She states that if you violate the “law,” you will be taken to jail. PERIOD.

I’m curious as to which LAW the good mayor will cite if you violate a stay at home ORDER.

Meanwhile in Chiraq: “4 dead, 30 hurt in Chicago weekend shootings so far

And this: “Illinois releases 146 sex offenders, including 3 sexually dangerous persons

Seems the REAL criminals in Chiraq and Illinois are the ones getting a free pass.

Welcome to the new America under the Wuhan virus tyranny.

A consequence of Wuhan virus? Suicides on the rise in eastern Washington county

This will come as no surprise, except maybe to the bureaucrats and “experts.”

Shutting down one’s livelihood and the economic machine that drives EVERYTHING for EVERYONE has consequences. A severe economic depression is about to hit this country due to governments shutting everything down to try and “save” all of us.

On March 30 I did the following post: “Suicides outpacing Wuhan virus deaths in Knox County, Tennessee.”

At the time a mayor in the county stated, “That number is completely shocking and makes me wonder if what we are doing now is really the best approach.”

Washington State has been under a “Stay at Home” order that has been extended to May 31.

Benton County, Washington has a population of just over 200,000 people. They have 494 positive cases of Wuhan virus with 43 deaths reported. You do the math.

The county has been ordered shut down for WEEKS and residents are to stay home for another month. As a result, unemployment is on the rise in Benton County.

So are suicides.

Last week the Tri-City Heralded reported that suicides in Benton County had surged in the seven weeks since the Wuhan virus outbreak. From their story:

The number of suicides in Benton County spiked since the middle of March.

Fourteen people died by suicide so far this year in the county. And eight of the deaths were between March 12 and April 23, Benton County Coroner Bill Leach said.

The increase coincides with the tightening of social and work restrictions to slow the spread of the new coronavirus and the respiratory illness it causes, COVID-19.”

The Kennewick Police also report “a growing number of calls about suicidal threats or concerns about people who might harm themselves.”

Committed to public health: Washington State governor extends “stay at home order” while homeless in Seattle free to set up camps at every street corner

Demorat Governor and failed presidential candidate Jay Inslee issued a “Stay at Home” order for Washington on March 23. This past Wednesday he confirmed that the order would continue beyond May 4, He did not indicate when that order would be lifted and is expected to provide more details today.

Guarantee you it will go on and on and on.

He also thanked Washingtonians for their commitment to public health, despite an upheaval to daily life.

Want to know exactly HOW committed the governor is himself to public health? Just take a look at what is going on in Seattle (specifically, the Ballard area): The city has paused the cleanup of homeless encampments sweeps.

Here’s a picture of what is going on in downtown Ballard, courtesy of Rob Harwood who shared them with Jason Rantz of MyNorthwest.com. See all the pictures here.

Homeless tents set up along a street in Ballard (Seattle)/Rob Harwood photo

Due to the Wuhan virus, the city is not making homeless encampments disappear. The homeless are free to set up tents where ever they want. Tell me how homeless people, without access to proper hygiene facilities, are positively contributing to “public health?”

Are the homeless disposing of their trash properly? Are they using restroom facilities or the streets? Are they able to wash their hands? Do they have to wear masks?

And of course with more homeless comes crime. It’s so bad that some residents are suggesting that one arm themselves (always a good idea, IMO). They don’t feel safe in their own neighborhoods. Read that story at KOMO News here.

Washingtonians are ordered to stay home while the homeless and criminals are set free. That’s how they protect public health!

Due to Wuhan virus shutdowns, Nashville mayor wants to raise property taxes by 32%

Nashville, Tennessee has a population of approximately almost 700,000. They have a total of 2,618 confirmed cases of Wuhan virus with 24 deaths. You do the math…

As with most municipalities, Nashville was ordered shutdown in mid-March under “Safer-At-Home” orders.

Nashville demorat mayor, John Cooper, stated the following: “Nashville will be living with COVID-19 until there is an effective vaccine for the virus. Living with COVID-19 means returning to work with COVID-19. We must proceed carefully to ensure we do not create a surge that will send us all back home. Nashville’s economy will open in four phases. We will only move to the next phase if there is positive improvement/stability in the metrics for 14 days.”

Due to the closing of businesses and Wuhan virus safer-at-home order, the city estimates they will lose $740 MILLION in revenues over the next 16 months.

The way to recover that? Increase property taxes by 32%. Read the whole story about their budget here.

Talk about a surge…for homeowners who have lost their jobs or businesses. Expect to see more news like this across the country as municipalities struggle to recoup revenue lost from completely shutting down their economies.

Unintended consequences: Stress and pressure put on families isolated in homes with abusers

This will come as no surprise.

Domestic violence is on the rise as a result of people being ordered to shelter at home or in place. I’ve seen it here in my small Oklahoma town. It’s happening across the country. See here, here, here, here and here.

Perp Christopher Stokes being “supervised” while free to commit murder

This story out of Milwaukee is particularly tragic: “Five dead in shooting at a home on Milwaukee’s north side”

The situation is being described as an act of “family violence” and “gun violence.”

I’d argue that this is due to the inability of the criminal justice system to effectively do its job. And the stress that is created with citizens being ordered to stay at home.

The perp, Christopher Stokes, shot and killed five family members between the ages of 14 and 41. He is a known felon who was being “supervised” by the Minnesota Department of Corrections since his prison release in 2015. His background includes: domestic violence convictions against two women, substantial battery, witness intimidation, bail jumping, misdemeanor disorderly conduct, and felony child abuse (for which no charges were filed). The domestic violence convictions made him a prohibited possessor.

Yet we all know that gun control laws don’t stop criminals.

Read the whole sad story here.

Expect to read about more tragic domestic violence stories as “Stay at Home” orders are extended – and extended – and extended.
