Actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, 71, is in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the Arnold Classic Africa sporting event.
This morning, May 18, 2019, Schwarzenegger was watching a rope-skipping competition in the Sandton Convention Centre when he was approached to take a Snapchat video of the children skipping. Schwarzenegger obliges and is filmed as he gets up from his seat and then takes a video of the children while speaking into the phone camera.
In a video that has gone viral, a man (circled red in screenshot below) can be seen lurking behind Schwarzenegger.
Just as Schwarzenegger hands over the phone, the man runs up and in a flying leap, kicks Schwarzenegger in the back, screaming, “I need a Lamborghini!”
Schwarzenegger tumbles forward into a crowd of people while the attacker is held down by security.
Shortly afterwards, Schwarzenegger takes his seat by the side of the court again, seemingly unharmed by the incident. A short while later, however, he and his team get up from their seats and move through the convention center, which is where the video ends.
In a tweet this morning, Schwarzenegger assures his fans:
Arnold Sport Festival Africa issued an official statement citing organizer Wayne Price as saying the assailant is “known to the police for orchestrating similar incidents in the past”. The statement says Schwarzenegger is “fine and still in good spirits,” has no intention of laying charges and will continue with another appearance tomorrow as planned. (CBS News)
Here’s a better video showing the attack from another angle:
Schwarzenegger, solid as a boulder, does not appear to have been injured in the video. It’s his attacker who crumpled to the ground and was immediately hauled away by security.
People seem to be getting crazier by the minute . . . .
