Section 8 (g) of the US Flag code states,
“The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.”
Mere weeks after an American flag with the face of Barack Obama in place of the stars, was removed from the Florida Democratic Party headquarters, the same flag is now flying from an apartment in Lumberton, NJ.
Tim of Front Porch Politics reports, April 7, 2012, that the apartment’s residents are clearly upset by the flag. One lady, almost in tears, said in reference to the image of Obama on the flag,
“I don’t care if it’s a can of peas, it don’t belong on my American flag.”
Hans Cammack, the flag’s owner said, “It’s Obama, I mean, it’s our President.” Cammack’s friend Richard Clarkson bought the flags because he “wanted to support the President of the United States” after hearing disparaging remarks about Obama.
However, many of the people there, including some veterans are highly offended. Pointing at the flag, one man explained: “I fought for that flag. I just don’t want it defaced.”
Cammack, also a veteran, has no intention of taking down the defaced flag.
