Accountant explains U.S. budget-debt disaster in 5 min.

This is a NON-PARTISAN video produced by an accountant, Hal Mason, who retired after 27 years with IBM.

In this video, Mason does something that all the handsomely-paid economists and pundits you see in the media seem unable to do.

Mason looks at the federal government’s budget, revenues and expenses, and very clearly and simply explains our national fiscal and debt problem in 5½ minutes.

My only disagreement with Mr. Mason is that he left out one thing in his proposed recipe to fix America’s Titanic-sized nightmare:

In addition to drastically cutting spending and drastically reducing the size of government, we must also grow the economy by creating more jobs, which means more Americans work, which means they’ll pay taxes, which translates into more revenue (income) for government.

That’s what Romney-Ryan propose to do. The POS will make our disaster even more disastrous by propelling us over the cliff, faster. That’s the real meaning of his campaign motto of “Forward.”

Alas, too many Americans are willingly blind, deaf, and in a massive state of denial. It’s a blindness so massive it’s no longer simply a psychological phenomenon. The blindness is rooted in spiritual darkness.

“…you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people.” -Ezekiel 12:2

  1. First, thank you for this video, it is a much needed dose of reality that I will spread to my contacts.

Let me also say that I do plan to vote for Romney in November as the alternative is unthinkable.

But I need to say that to expect a president to be able to create jobs is what got us into this mess. We need to stop thinking that the president has the power to create anything, let alone jobs. All we need from Romney as president is to get out of the way of the producers in America and let us create the jobs and industries that will get America back on track.

I am fearful it may be too late, the leeches are outnumbering the producers in America, but that does not mean I will give up the fight.

    • If you look into the Romney-Ryan proposals, they’re not saying the president will “create” jobs. They mean exactly what you mean — that govt should get out of the way of the private economy by removing cumbersome regulations and not letting “environmentalists” stop us from making full use of America’s oil and gas deposits. The United States is rich in energy resources. We can be energy independent and free of MidEast oil.

  2. Thank you Dr. Eowyn for this excellent post. It is plain and clear and I agree with you. This accountant has left out the most important solution which is to make an economic environment for small and/or large businesses so that jobs will be created by the private sector, more taxes are paid, more revenue produced, et al. And yes, that is what Romney/Ryan propose!

  3. If we ever kick out the Rockefellers and the Rothchilds who brought us into debt then we will not be paying them any more. That is the whole purpose of our national debt. For them to get rich off of us. They can go to hell where they belong.

    • If I make $100 in income per week, but my expenditure is $300 per week, so I keep borrowing money to maintain “my lifestyle,” whose fault is that?

How convenient to blame it all on bankers — not that I have any fondness for them — as if the federal government’s over-spending has nothing to do with our monumental national debt.
