A New Medical Symbol, the ObamaScrewU!

Rate this post

We all know about this age-old symbol for the medical profession, right? It’s called the rod of Asclepius, an ancient symbol associated with medicine, healing, and the Greek god Asclepius, son of Apollo, who was a practitioner of medicine in ancient Greek mythology. The symbol consists of a serpent entwined around a staff. Hippocrates himself was a worshipper of Asclepius.

The rod of Asclepius (with 2 serpents instead of 1) is often confused with the Cadaceus, even though the latter has no connection with Hippocrates or the healing arts. Cadaceus actually is the symbol of the god Hermes (thus, the wings) and carries connotations of theft, deception, and death.

Well, finally we now have a new medical symbol for the “health care plan” we’ll all be getting. It’s the ObamaScrewU. Welcome to the Brave New World of ObamaCare!

  1. Brilliant and accurate! No holiness exists in this symbol.

  2. Great! It should be displayed over the AT&T logo to show what is going to happen to their employees’ “safe plans”.

  4. If someone actually makes one of these, I’ll wear it around the hospital.

  5. When the going gets tough ……Obama bails!!

  6. Since we are writing about A New Medical Symbol, the ObamaScrewU! | Fellowship of the Minds, Health care positions that benefit from comprehensive medical training are most often found in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and day care health centers. Professionals, such as Patient Care Technicians, will be in constant contact with patients, and they are responsible for providing extensive daily care, recording vital signs, maintaining health records, and reporting to supervising medical professionals (generally a registered nurse).

  7. A picture is worth a thousand words! Brilliant!

  8. I’d like to order one for Obama, Pelosi, and all their partners in crime in passing this Obamanation of a healthcare bill. Obama won’t wear an American flag lapel pin, I wonder if he’d wear this?!

  9. do any of you even understand what is in the affordable health care act?

  10. The funny thing is the latter symbol (the caduceus) is already the one more commonly used in the commercial healthcare industry in the U.S.
As quoted in the Wikipedia article you linked to: ‘As god of the high-road and the market-place Hermes was perhaps above all else the patron of commerce and the fat purse’.
    Says it all really…
