Stop the presses. I think we have a Repub with a Spine. . ~Steve~

Freshman Republican Ron Johnson, sent to Washington by the voters of Wisconsin, has issued a threat to Senate Democrats:

Do the job you were sent here to do and present a budget or I’ll use arcane Senate rules to shut the place down.

National Review reviews Johnson’s threat:

America is going bankrupt, and the Senate refuses to pass a budget,” Johnson said. “Unfortunately, this has become business as usual in Washington.” If fact, it’s been almost 800 days since the Senate has done so under Democratic leadership.

As a freshman senator, Johnson said he was sent to Washington to reject “business as usual,” and that is exactly what he intends to do. “America is simply too precious to subject out financial future to Washington’s ‘business as usual,’” he said. “So unless we receive some assurance from the Democrat leadership that we will actually start addressing our budget out in the open, in the bright light of day — I will begin to object. I will begin to withhold my consent.”

  1. Not holding my breath, but a bit of hope never hurts.

  2. He’s from Wisconsin, where they tend to have a backbone, often misidentified as a merely independent streak. Assuming he’s not just another same old, same old, Republicrat (which we have too many of), he’ll actually make a dent in the armor of same old, same old.

  3. That Congressman Johnson is making the news is a sad commentary on the so-called TEA Party crop of freshman Republicans who were elected last November.

I don’t know how much more cynical we can get about politicians, and we all know that even a government in a representative democracy requires a certain measure of the people’s trust. This radical cynicism — which is the result of the Political Class’ own behavior — is corrosive….

  4. There are always “Thomas Mores” out in public life that give us a breath of fresh air of integrity and courage! It is sad, however, that we have not heard more of the newly Republicans elected to help us with our budget problems. Indeed, such non-action causes cynicism and rightfully so. . .Trust is so precious, and I am uncertain whether or not the newly elected realize how precious it is. . .

  5. Good, someone needs to kick their arses over there and have them get it done!
