A Government of Crooks

John Adams, the 2nd President of the United States of America

Nearly 250 years ago, John Adams warned of the inherent dangers of democracy.
In An Essay on Man’s Lust for Power (1763), he wrote that “democracy will soon degenerate into an anarchy, such an anarchy that every man will do with is right in his own eyes and no man’s life or property or reputation or liberty will be secure.”
After decades of the Left’s systematic corruption of America with the poison of moral relativism, multiculturalism, and enmity toward Christianity, we are seeing the rotten harvest everywhere. Like a fish decaying from the head first, the degeneration of American democracy into anarchy begins with government. Ours is a government of crooks.
We have the petty government crooks, such as the four employees of the California Department of Motor Vehicles (Angelina Nanette James, 42; Taneika Mashay Lathan, 22; Shavon Renae Shorter, 25; and Kimberly Nicole Sadler, 30) arrested last week in a title-washing scheme.
Andrew Galvin of the Orange County Register reports that the title-washing scheme involved luxury vehicles such as Mercedes-Benzes and Cadillac Escalades. People would buy vehicles using auto loans. Then, with the help of the four DMV employees, they would get a fraudulent title in which the lien-holding bank was removed. The people would then take out new loans against the vehicles and pocket the money. In one case, a vehicle was used as collateral for loans six times before the banks caught on. The four DMV employees are being charged with conspiracy, grand theft, illegal computer access, bribery and use of false documents to conceal resident status.

But wait. The four are not the only criminal California DMV employees! In a separate license-fraud scheme, five other DMV employees have also been arrested for conspiring with a middleman to illegally issue drivers licenses, charging $350 to $6,000 to process the applications fraudulently. The fraudulent licenses were acquired by people who had trouble passing a driving test or who lacked the documentation needed to obtain a license legally. Illegal immigrants, anyone?
In yet another separate case, Gonzalo Garcia, 40, a license registration examiner at DMV’s Hollywood/Cole office, was arrested on four felony counts each of alleged illegal access of DMV computers and falsification of public records.
Then there’s that San Francisco parking enforcement officer meter maid who was captured in a YouTube video parking illegally in a yellow commercial loading zone and then went shopping for clothes in a Goodwill Store — all on the taxpayer’s dime. Alan Wang of ABC7.news reports on May 18, 2010:

A new YouTube video is getting a lot of attention in San Francisco. It shows a parking enforcement officer parked in a yellow commercial loading zone while she was shopping. The jittery video shows a San Francisco DPT parking control vehicle illegally parked in a commercial loading zone for six-wheeled trucks. The unidentified amateur photographer finds the DPT officer shopping at the Goodwill store near Geary and Hyde. Employees at the Goodwill store say at least two DPT officers frequently park illegally and shop during morning hours.

The meter maid and the DMV workers are merely the little crooks. The really big crooks are in Washington, D.C.
Take Eric Holder, for example. As the Attorney General of the United States in charge of the entire Justice Department, Holder is supposed to be the chief law enforcement officer of the United States government, enforcing laws such as the federal government’s laws on immigration, legal and illegal.
Holder not only refuses to enforce the laws on illegal immigration, he has the supreme gall to criticize the state of Arizona for its new immigration law, SB 1070, which mirrors federal law — 8 USC 1304(e) and 8 USC 1306(a) — requiring non-citizens to register and carry their documents with them.
Worse than criticizing Arizona, Holder hasn’t even bothered to read SB 1070. As reported by Stephen Dinan of the Washington Times on May 13, 2010:

Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., who has been critical of Arizona’s new immigration law, said Thursday he hasn’t yet read the law and is going by what he’s read in newspapers or seen on television. Mr. Holder is conducting a review of the law, at President Obama’s request, to see if the federal government should challenge it in court. He said he expects he will read the law by the time his staff briefs him on their conclusions. “I’ve just expressed concerns on the basis of what I’ve heard about the law. But I’m not in a position to say at this point, not having read the law, not having had the chance to interact with people are doing the review, exactly what my position is,” Mr. Holder told the House Judiciary Committee.

But Holder was lying when he told the House Judiciary Committee that he could not say “exactly what my position is” on SB 1070. On the contrary, he had been vocal on the Arizona law. He told NBC’s “Meet the Press” program that the Arizona law “has the possibility of leading to racial profiling.” He had earlier called the law’s passage “unfortunate,” and questioned whether the law was unconstitutional because it tried to assume powers that may be reserved for the federal government.
All of which led Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas), who had questioned Mr. Holder about the law, to wonder how he could have those opinions if he hadn’t yet read the legislation: “It’s hard for me to understand how you would have concerns about something being unconstitutional if you haven’t even read the law.”

But wait!
Holder is not the only big law enforcement officer who hasn’t read SB 1070 but publicly criticizes the Arizona law. There’s also Janet Napolitano, head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As described by Wikipedia, the DHS is:

a cabinet department of the U.S. federal government whose primary responsibilities are to protect the territory of the U.S. from terrorist attacks and respond to natural disasters. The Department of Homeland Security works in the civilian sphere to protect the United States within, at, and outside its borders. Its stated goal is to prepare for, prevent, and respond to domestic emergencies, particularly terrorism. On March 1, 2003, DHS absorbed the Immigration and Naturalization Service and assumed its duties.

Instead of enforcing America’s border security and immigration laws, Napolitano is a vocal critic of Arizona’s immigration law although she admits she hasn’t reviewed “in detail” read the law. Pete Winn of CNSnew reports on May 17, 2010:

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, who has been a vocal critic of the new Arizona immigration law, told Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Monday that she had not reviewed the law in detail, but nevertheless repeated criticism she made in April on ABC’s “Good Morning America” that the law is a “bad law enforcement law.”

Last but not least, we have the arrogantly self-righteous government officials of cities (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Seattle) and states (California) who have decided to boycott Arizona, the Constitution be damned. In so doing, they are directly violating Article 1, Section 8 of the United States Constitution, which specifies that only Congress “shall have power…to regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States.”
In the year 2010, America has devolved into that anarchy forewarned by John Adams, where every man does what is right in his own eyes and no man’s life or property or reputation or liberty is secure.

  1. Damn – you’re good!

  2. EO–that’s why you run the blog—you tell it like it is.

  3. Thanks, Me and Ron! Your encouragement is much appreciated. Without y’all, this blog would be pointless.
If a tree falls in the forest and noone is around to hear it….

  4. That’s funny, Steve! We can always count on you for a witty funny comment. 😀

  5. “where every man does what is right in his own eyes and no man’s life or property or reputation or liberty is secure”
That’s the motto of the libs, of course!

  6. I kinda like that motto—Maybe I should employ it when all hell breaks loose.

  7. Thoughts for the day
If Barney Frank goes to the pig sty to soil his loin cloth how does he know which hog to wallow with?
When Arlen Specter looks in the mirror does he see the ghost of what he should be?
With all the hot air blowing around the Senate does Harry Reid ever get in tune?
Should we box Barbra Boxer? And if we do where should we send her?
    Is John Adler Addle Brained?
Is Melissa Bean full of beans?
Does Jeff Flake live up to his name?
When Pelosi and Rangel get together do they waltz with Timothy,
Wine with Weiner, Slaughter the Constitution with louise, Rush to judgment with Bobby, Obey David, and all use the same botox to detox their looks?
    Just Asking

  8. I’m sorry–I can’t help myself—I’m just an egotistical maniac—but I’m a nice one

Here’s a thought I often ponder: Does Nancy pelosi’s face hurt? ‘Cuz, it’s killing me.

  9. Eowyn, this is very insightful-the comparisons and analogies are spot on! Thank you!!! I actually started laughing as I l istened to Eric Holder and watched his non-verbal communication!! What a riot! He is so terribly uncomfortable and shows he is lying! It is remarkable for the Attorney General of the United States to take his opinions from newspapers, isn’t it-as well as comments on television!!! Yet, he doesn’t bother to read the law which he says will take him an “evening” to read it. (Seems like he needs to bone up on his reading skills as it is 10 pages long.) It is not surprising that the Arizona law dovetails and mentions federal law. For example, FRCP or Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, often dovetail state rules of civil procedure. Clearly, the writers of this legislation did this deliberately. God forbid, Eowyn, that Eric Holder actually refer to the United States Code. He reads the newspapers-don’t you know!!!
By the way, I am with you Angry White Woman! Certain people make me ill by looking at them!

  10. Yet, he doesn’t bother to read the law which he says will take him an “evening” to read it. (Seems like he needs to bone up on his reading skills as it is 10 pages long.)
Holder must move his lips when he reads. LOL

“…(Seems like he needs to bone up on his reading skills as it is 10 pages long.)”
I have an idea on how we could lose Eric Holder forever: Put him in a bathroom full of magazines.
