50 Things We Don't Do Any More.

50 Things We Don’t Do Anymore Due to Technology

A study conducted by Mozy last year found that technology is replacing many of the tasks that have been mainstays in our lives for years. When you consider the telecom industry, for example, when was the last time you looked something up in a phone book? Or used a phone book? Sure, they have 50 listings for party clowns for your 8-year-old’s birthday party, but isn’t it just faster to search online? Have you or your children ever called to hear “At the sound of the tone, the time will be 4:13 PM”? Technology is making life easier, faster, more accurate, and more personal. Take a stroll down memory lane with us and review 50 of the things we don’t do (or maybe have never done) thanks to technology.

I still do a few of these and want to re-start some. Air drying laundry, especially sheets, and writing more letters. I’m only 43, not old :0 but I have a cousin that I know would love a pen pal. She’s an English teacher. 🙂 Life has just gotten too technical. Don’t get me wrong I really enjoy the conveniences of all the modern doo-dads, I just feel I’ve lost something I want back. Just me rambling. 🙂

I still do about 15 of the 50. About the last one: Why should anyone stop going to yard sales? What does hi-tech have to do with yard sales?

I want to know what it has to do w/ washing clothes! And I do several of those things too, incl watching my rapidly dying VHS tapes in a bailing-wire-and bubble-gum, praying-it-still-works VCR. Ever try to replace one of those things lately?? Yeeaaahhh… I do keep a kind of journal as I read my Bible, writing down verses I like, observations, even questions and it’s amazing how many God will show me the answer a few days later. (Unfortunately that only works that fast w/ questions about what I’m reading, it usually takes me ’til AFTER to realize God answered… Read more »

Our thanks to him and you and family too for his service. They also serve who sit at home and wait. From an Army Strong Mother to a Military Wife. Your job is sure harder than mine, and you have my respect and regards.

In reading this my thoughts went back to the late 1950’s; every Friday night my Father (who just passed away) would sit at home to wait for my phone call from the movie theatre at 10:30 PM. Besides money for treats during the movie, I had an extra dime to call him to come pickup my friend and I to drive us home, so we didn’t have to walk home in the dark. How sweet the memory of making those calls, to always know he was there waiting to do something for me. And, how fun it was to use… Read more »

He must have been a wonderful dad for you to reminisce with such sweet sorrow.

Well I have a laptop, iPad, iPhone and kindle but I still do 19 of these too. I love technology but still like writing out bills by hand, reading real newspapers and writing cards and letters. Memorizing phone numbers is one trait that I feel is also important. (:
