NHS drops doctor who says gender is determined at birth

assume gender

Guess all those mums & dads having gender reveal parties are wrong, too.

From The Telegraph: A doctor has been “sacked” as a medical assessor for a government department after refusing to renounce his Christian belief that gender is determined at birth, the Sunday Telegraph can reveal.

Dr. David Mackereth has worked for 26 years as an NHS doctor but was told he could not be employed as a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) disability assessor if he refused to identify patients as being of a sex that they did not see themselves as.

The 55-year-old father of four believes sex is genetic and biological, so established at birth.

He now claims his right to freedom of speech has been denied and he has been classed “unfit” to work for the department because of his religious convictions. And, the medic from Dudley in the West Midlands fears many other professional people of faith could also be dismissed simply for holding opinions about gender that are “centuries old”.

Dr. Mackereth, who registered as a doctor in 1989 and spent most of his career working in Accident & Emergency wards, said: “I’m not attacking the transgender movement. But, I’m defending my right to freedom of speech, and freedom of belief.

“I don’t believe I should be compelled to use a specific pronoun. I am not setting out to upset anyone. But, if upsetting someone can lead to doctors being sacked then, as a society we have to examine where we are going.”

Dr. Mackereth, a Reformed Baptist, started a training course in May to become a health and disability assessor for the DWP.

His role would have meant interviewing and then writing independent reports about the health of those claiming disability benefits.

However, when his instructor stated that reports must only refer to the patient – or “client” – by the sex that person identified themselves as, a discussion took place among the medics about the “fluid” nature of gender, Dr. Mackereth claims.

“I said that I had a problem with this. I believe that gender is defined by biology and genetics. And that as a Christian the Bible teaches us that God made humans male or female. I could have kept my mouth shut. But, it was the right time to raise it.

“The tutor took me aside and said he had passed my comments up the chain to the DWP.

Dr. Mackereth then received an email from Advanced Personnel Management (APM), the agency that employed him and would have hired him out to the DWP.

They explained he could undergo training about the department’s policy, but the DWP had consulted lawyers and was adamant that any report or contact with clients should refer to them in their chosen sex otherwise it “could be considered to be harassment as defined by the 2010 Equality Act”.

The doctor replied that “in good conscience” he could not conform to those demands, and so the contract was terminated between them.

He said: “Firstly, we are not allowed to say what we believe. Secondly, as my case shows, we are not allowed to think what we believe. Finally, we are not allowed to defend what we believe.

By stating what has been believed by mankind for centuries – namely that gender and sex are determined at birth – you can come under ferocious attack.

“If we are no longer allowed to say that you believe sex and gender are the same and are determined at birth, everyone who holds my views can be sacked on the spot under this Act. I’m not an isolated case.”

A DWP spokeswoman said the Equality Act states that it is unlawful to discriminate directly or indirectly against a person on grounds of a “protected characteristic”, such as gender reassignment.

She added: “Dr. Mackereth made it clear during his training that he would refuse to use pronouns which did not match his own view of a person’s biological gender. We expect all assessors to handle assessments sensitively and adhere to the Equality Act 2010.”

APM declined to comment.

    • Yes, Dr. E, Orwellian dystopia is here with a vengeance. I never thought in my wildest nightmares that I would actually be alive to see it. But here it is. God help us all.

    • “Politicians” are now telling medical doctors what’s “acceptable”? This whole gender business is totally manufactured. Now it has become “gospel” simply because the social engineers say so?

So, if I’m a medical doctor, I have been trained and certified and have a license to practice medicine and a political hack can tell me that it is not true what I’ve learned? Why is this so shockingly wrong and nobody seems the least interested?

We’re at the point now where “The State” supplants all. Whatever is deemed acceptable by “The State” is “true”. Everything else is a lie. These tyrants have to go.

  2. So the message here is never let the facts stand in the way of a left-wing, libtard “politically correct” prejudice. That one’s gender is determined by genetics is a solidly demonstrated scientific fact. The absurd notion that gender is whatever a person says it is regardless of the facts, is lunacy. That a veteran physician can be fired from a job because he refuses to use the pronoun “she” to describe a male is–and here it comes–fascism. It is right up there with the British motorist who was sentenced to eight months in jail because he flipped the bird at an electronic speed trap camera, thereby “disrespecting” the police.

As for “political correct,” we must not forget who coined that phrase: Leon Trotsky.

As DCG has noted so often, Britain is Toast.

  5. With all due respect the statement “….gender and sex are determined at birth” is somewhat misleading. Would ‘Gender and sex are determined at conception’ be more accurate. I’m not a doctor and I don’t know for sure. But that ship sailed long before the baby’s born.

    • Indeed.

    • Yes, I agree. The doctor probably tried to make his statement more “acceptable” because he knows there is no way they’d buy the “at conception” argument…IMO.

    • I fully agree. Sex is determined at conception, and revealed at birth. What is scary is what they will start changing in medical training. Soon we could have a generation of physicians that believe what these nuts are saying.
I truly think the less we pay attention and less PR we give them. The better off we will be. To give them so much attention empowers them.

  6. One point here is that it doesn’t make any difference if a country calls itself “democratic” if it behaves like a totalitarian regime, it IS a totalitarian regime.

The same applies here. We are allegedly in a “conservative” administration. In my opinion, in general, the place has never displayed more signs of abject liberalism. They are now assaulting people in public because of their political beliefs with the “news media’s” approval?

If a government does not reflect the character of its electorate it is illegitimate. It isn’t important how people “speechify”, it is important what they DO.

Acting as if new age fantasies are superior to medical science is a great example of mind control. Only an idiot could fail to see this. How can even a politician support 31 varieties of “gender”? Worse, since they’ve supported it, they are still in office.

  7. Seems to me that the need to coin the ridiculous, unrealistic, and truly medically impossible term “gender reassignment” would be enough to shut this nonsense down. Crazy, is so unbelievable infinite.

Now America can get an ‘inside look’ as to how Michael/Michelle Obama was left alone for so many years. This insane belief that individuals can decide what gender they wish to embrace at a given time flies in the face of reality.

  10. I’d call this confusion “Histeria”. His? Get it?

  11. My heart goes out to this guy. He has to stay true to himself and his beliefs. I wrestle with this here in CA, where a CHILD can LEGALLY choose a gender on his/her own at age 12 and we teachers are supposed to comply with it, call out the child by the new, “chosen” name….EVEN IF THE PARENTS DO NOT KNOW OR EVEN IF THEY OBJECT. I’ve had at least 2 cases a year of this—- Bottom line….I just DON”T use many pronouns anymore. I refuse to go behind parents’ backs for anything, let alone “fluid sexual identity.” I happen to believe that a child under age 18 is still the ward and responsibility of their PARENTS or legal GUARDIANS (of which I am neither) and this is a family matter, not a school matter, unless parents request a conference with staff/admin to work with the issue between home and school (I”ve had ONE set of parents do this in the last 5-6 years of all this “fluid gender” advent—the other parents either don’t know, or object, or in a bitter family split over it). If the child has not chosen an alternate name, I use what is on my roll sheet….if they’ve chosen the alternate (opposite sex name, but are still on my roll as their original gender with their origninal name….) I just avoid calling them ANYTHING. “YOU” becomes very handy, like, “You can go around and collect the test papers…..” “Everyone” becomes very handy, like “Make sure everyone at your table has a copy.” It is annoying, and it truely affects the relationship with the class as a whole (consider this—-most of my 11-13 yr-olds don’t understand why someone named “Cindy” wants to be called ” David” instead…..and furthermore, if the child has been representing themselves as an opposite gender in demeanor and dress….it’s UPSETTING to them if I “slip” and refer to that child with ANY pronoun…male or female…either way, half of the class erupts b/c they are 50/50 at knowing/assuming what gender that person is anyway….ie…they look like a “David” but are listed on the PE roll with the girls—regardless of where they “dress out.” I can’t tell you the times that this has disrupted class and I have to stop and address the uproar diplomatically). BTW….I NEVER use “real” names or speciic identifying details when I share these things in public, as I try to represent my situation with the “IF” story/situation—but, but you can still “get” what is going on in our schools today concerning some very tricky/touchy issues that juxtapose opposing beliefs/rights, etc.

How could these people be qualified to determine the status of this doctor. It is time to slap down the don’t-know-who-they-are or what direction their windpipe is blowing off.

It insults my intelligence to continue to listen to these people who are so mixed up.

We have taken enough from these liberals. We cannot believe anything these people say.

  14. The horrors of socialized medicine are eating the British public alive, literally. And this doctor is fired for telling the truth. It’s all about British eugenics, and Dr. Mackereth has violated the protocol of violating the narrative, namely, pulling the curtain back and exposing not the Wizard of Oz, perhaps, but the actual real biological truth.
This is PRECISELY the “Brave New World” of Aldous Huxley. Somewhere he is smiling, wryly.

  15. Lets hope & pray this “hate crime” will be shown for the hatred it really is, and that he will continue to find employment.

For anyone wanting to look at how this got to this point, I can give a bit of history, I first noticed the “pronoun” craziness being used online in subcultures as far back as 2006, (It likely goes much earlier, I’d suspect) the particular one I was looking around at the time had already long since been corrupted by the homosexualist front for satanism, and had these corrupted people in charge of things like running servers, etc. (And if their hate-filled behavior there is any indicator of how they’d behave in real life, there is going to be a lot of very bad things happening.) said subculture was also very “progressive” when it came to pedophilia, chat rooms geared towards such were permitted to run by the homosexualist admins at the time in secret, in more recent years however, they are functioning openly (demonstrating their common origin in being a mental & spiritual illness). It would be reasonable to start with looking at the homosexual movement of the 2000’s as a potential starting point for the pronoun and gender psychopathy, but also take into consideration the marxist, capitalist, & socialist movements of the time as well as the pagan & “witchy” movements as well (During the late 90’s & 2000’s “wicca” was being widely advertised, especially to the kids, as some here might recall. This cousin of scientology and satanism being far from ancient, is an “occult” gateway drug, so to speak.)

For anyone wondering what subculture in particular, the majority “furry fandom” was the offender in this case, although I’d suspect other subcultures of the time were also doing the same, and there’d probably be a lot of cross-contamination between them, I suspect it ultimately stems from the homosexualist, anti-christian elements that slithered into said subcultures early on, when they didn’t outright start them themselves, anyway.

  16. Drs near my son’s home, Manattan Beach, CA, long ago (advent of Obamacare, specifially) gave up their offices, their thousands-of-dollars per yr mallpractice insurances, and posted themselves with little signs on the front rooms of their homes as a practicing physician, cash only, NOT INSURED………Pretty much, they make as much money as they previously did, without all the ancillary payroll people who did their insurance claims….and without their HUGE malpractice insurance payout…..AND , they don’t have to be affilliated with a hospital an do the rounds, etc….they pretty much are llike old-time village doctors……

  17. Operative phrase per UK’s “Equality Act”:

    “…protected characteristic…”

Per the Cambridge English Dictionary (with “Sample Sentences” provided by Yours Truly):

Noun: a typical or noticeable quality of someone or something.

Sample sentence: The good doctor “noticed” that, even though Jane claimed to be a Female, her “noticeable” beard & the bulge in her skirt were “typical” of a Male.

Adjective: typical of a person or thing.

Sample sentence: In order to complete the Sex/Gender section on the New Patient form, the good doctor asked the new patient to drop his drawers (or pull up her skirt) so he could determine the “typical” anatomy/genitalia of said New Patient.

Adjective: showing all the characteristics that you would usually expect from a particular group of things [& groups of people, per their own sample sentences].

Sample sentence: It is “typical” for the good doctor to “usually expect” that a person with a five o’clock shadow is of the “particular group” known medically as Male; & that a person with a barely noticeable Adam’s Apple is “usually expected” to be of the “particular group” known medically as a Female.

Disapproving: showing all the bad characteristics that you expect from someone or something, often in a way that is annoying.

Sample sentence: The good doctor (after winning his free speech & religious discrimination lawsuit against the National Health Service) intended to work at their Dept. for Work & Pensions until retirement, but after one year, “all the bad typical characteristics” (defensive-arrogance, entitlement, denial, hysterics) of Tranny & Gender-Fluid patients, though “expected,” became increasingly “annoying” to the point that the doctor decided to take his large settlement & retire early.

Any barristers out there? Surely Dr. Mackereth could win a lawsuit vs. NHS based on their own word-games by presenting as “Exhibit A” a common UK Dictionary, & “Exhibit B” a copy of their own 2010 Equality Act which includes “RELIGION OR BELIEF” as a “PROTECTED CHARACTERISTIC”!
