Woody Allen thinks he’s the “poster boy” for the #MeToo movement

From NY Post: Woody Allen isn’t happy to be a self-proclaimed “poster boy for the #MeToo movement.”

“I’m a big advocate of the #MeToo movement,” Allen, 82, told Argentinian news program Periodismo Para Todos (“Journalism for All”) (via Quartz) on Monday. “I feel when they find people who harass innocent women and men, it’s a good thing that they’re exposing them. But you know I — I should be the poster boy for the #MeToo movement, because I have worked in movies for 50 years. I’ve worked with hundreds of actresses and not a single one — big ones, famous ones, ones starting out — have ever ever suggested any kind of impropriety at all. I’ve always had a wonderful record with them.

(However, in 2015, Mariel Hemingway, who starred in Allen’s 1979 film “Manhattan,” alleged in her memoir “Out Came the Sunthat Allen attempted to seduce her when she turned 18 and he was 44.)

While the auteur may not believe he’s on Harvey Weinstein, James Toback or Kevin Spacey levels of conduct, many stars, including Greta Gerwig, Mira Sorvino, Jeff Daniels and Michael Caine, have renounced working with him in light of the sexual abuse allegations that his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, made against him.

Allen was accused of molesting then-7-year-old Dylan in 1993 in Mia Farrow‘s Connecticut home. Law enforcement and sexual abuse experts investigated the allegations at the time, the Los Angeles Times reported, but a prosecutor declined to press charges to spare Dylan the trauma of a trial; a judge in the case deemed Allen’s behavior toward his daughter “grossly inappropriate.”

Allen has maintained his innocence since the accusations were first leveled against him, alleging that scorned ex Mia was coaching Dylan to lie to gain revenge on Allen for dating Mia’s other adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn.

Now 32, Dylan has repeated her accusations numerous times since the dawning of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements.

“This is something that has been thoroughly looked at 25 years ago by all the authorities and everybody came to the conclusion that it was untrue,” Allen said. “And that was the end and I’ve gone on with my life. For it to come back now, it’s a terrible thing to accuse a person of. I’m a man with a family and my own children. So of course it’s upsetting.”

“I think in any situation where anyone is accused of someone unjustly, this is a sad thing. I think everybody would agree with that,” he continued. “Everyone wants justice to be done. If there is something like the #MeToo movement now, you root for them, you want them to bring to justice these terrible harassers, these people who do all these terrible things. And I think that’s a good thing. What bothers me is that I get linked with them. People who have been accused by 20 women, 50 women, 100 women of abuse and abuse and abuse — and I, who was only accused by one woman in a child custody case which was looked at and proven to be untrue, I get lumped in with these people.”

Allen’s other children, including daughter Bechet (with Previn) and son Moses Farrow, have spoken out in his defense. Son Ronan Farrow has been a staunch and constant defender of Dylan.

Though Allen feels victimized by Hollywood, he still has many defenders, including Alec Baldwin and Diane Keaton, as well as other stars who have quietly supported him, like Scarlett Johansson.

Penélope Cruz, who won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Allen’s 2008 film “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” takes a similar stance to Cate Blanchett (who took home a Best Actress trophy for her work with Allen in “Blue Jasmine”) — she doesn’t have all the details and she thinks the case should possibly be reopened.

“The only answer that I can give you with common sense that is not about a headline is [that] the case has to be looked at again,” Cruz, 44, told Vanity Fair on Saturday. “The important thing is, if there is a case anywhere in the world that isn’t clear, then why not look at it again? I am in favor of that. We have a collection of headlines saying this actor would work with him again, and this one said they wouldn’t — this doesn’t change anything. This doesn’t add anything good to the situation. We’re supposed to believe in justice, and this was looked at years ago, and it’s not clear. It should be looked at again, and then I can give an answer.”

  1. Well then perhaps it is also time to put Bill Clinton on trial then as well. Why should he get off scot free. He was not innapropriate with many women he has also been accused of rape that poor woman was ignored.

  3. Body language shows the two girls are not happy with Mr. Pedophile. Remember, he was married to Mia Farrow then divorced her to marry Mia’s daughter. What a jerk.

  4. This is an immoral cretin. How many times has he been “married”? He should be afraid to show his face. Married his step-daughter? Wow!

He molested his own daughter when she was seven? These evil sons of perdition are where they are because they belong to an exclusive Satanic group. If any normal people tried this they’d be under a jail. Of course “normal” people don’t do these things.

  6. I despise Woody Allen. I have always despised him. I despise his entire body of work. His films follow what seems to be variations on a standard Allen plot of “over sexed and under laid in New York.” He is a pedophile, a monster who preys on his own child, a despicable POS criminal who has never paid any price for what he has done. I applaud those actors who now refuse to work with him.

    • I agree that his body of work, such as it is, is a typical backhand to the goy while pretending to laugh at his J e w ishness. He is a Judaizer. His goal has been to Judaize the goy without them realizing it’s being done to them. This is what Jewish “comedians” and writers are about. (They cast themselves as the eternal, nebbishy, ‘outsider’, pseudo-victims.) One of the first movies (if not the first) Allen directed, and co-wrote, was “Take the Money and Run”. If you know a little bit of history, and a little bit about the Jewish mind, this movie will tell you much more with regard to how J e w s disarm their victims. (Allen had his then lover, Louise Lasser, in the film, just as he later would have Diane Keaton and Mia Farrow, the 2 “shiksas” in his films.) His character’s name is Virgil Starkwell. Note who are the morons throughout the movie.
The throwaway lines aren’t really throwaways. There are no superfluous shots and the music is also important.

  7. Woody is a “poster boy,” period. Fill in the blank: “Woody Allen is the poster boy for _________.” ( suggestions: text book pedophile; Hollywood exploiter of women despite of/because of his ugly face/personality; casting couch exploitives; seducing his own step-daughter; yatta yatta). Much more; can’t waste any more brain power on this. I have more important things to do, like wake up & get myself to school for my 200 middle school kids. Wonder what “heroic” thing Mr. Allen will do compared to what I will do tomorrow?

Ya know what? I don’t even care enough about him to bother wondering. I’m sure a “Big Day” for him involves having a relatively firm bowel movement. Whoopee!

  9. At this point I do not know who to believe. I have read Dylan’s side of the matter, and I have just read Moses’ side of the matter; Both seem credible. So I remain cautiously skeptical of the matter of Woody Allen’s guilt, yet I also recall that it was a young 19 year old Mia Farrow who pursued one Frank Sinatra.
This curious case does not contain the certitude of that of Roman Polanski—at least not at this time.
Moral of the Story: Don’t wash your dirty laundry in public. And stop trying to get the public to believe you: Leave that up to God.

    • It might be up to God, but God gave me an intelliect/interest/ability in identifying natural phenomena: Quack, Quack. I hear a duck. It PROBABLY is a duck. Could be a goose….could be an exotic something else….but, preponderance of evidence says ????? …..DUCK. When the likes of Woody or OJ can find the “real perp,” after all these years of searching/looking……I’ll abandon my suspicions of them and their ilk. And by all means…lets trot out a 19-year-old Mia Farrow, wicked-witch persona against the even THEN fossilized age/knowledge/maturity of Frank Sinatra. Pretty sure she “bested him” in the arena of sexual/power /influence/ economic power/Hollywood-cultural power/mob contacts/future contacts/over-all-influences in the “biz,” NOT!!! What were you thinking???????? We can barely trust or expect a 19-yr-old to make accurate change at the local pharmacy as an employee, or to show up reliably to a community college class (or to study, or to turn in assignments), or to raise an out-of-wedlock-child (half of my students are being raised by grandparents or cousins, or aunts…..etc)….and so on and so forth…..let alone to BEST a seasoned/hardened/probably felonious in many/some ways Hollywood icon…….. I am flummoxed by this statement about her at age 19. …esp after what transpired after her years of relationship with Woody….his sexual involvement with his step-daughter. No offense…but, IMO….EYE ON THE WRONG BALL. EeeUEWWWW… Sex with your step-daughter, whom you helped to raise…etc etc

      • I find it noteworthy that the doubters of Dylan Farrow never ever mention what Mariel Hemingway said about Woody leching after her when she was still an underage teen.

        • But, she claims she was 18 when Allen made his advances…that isn’t underage I don’t think. Of course, he’s still a perv, as all of his movies indicate.

          • Hemingway believes that Allen was sexually interested in her 2 years before she turned 18, although he didn’t act on it then.

            From https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2015/03/woody-allen-mariel-hemingway-manhattan

“Hemingway claims that Allen attempted to lure her to Paris once she turned 18—two years after she had filmed Manhattan. ‘Our relationship was platonic, but I started to see that he had a kind of crush on me, though I dismissed it as the kind of thing that seemed to happen any time middle-aged men got around young women,’ writes Hemingway. The actress suggests that Allen attempted to act upon the crush by flying to her parents’ home in Idaho and inviting the teen to Europe.”

      • Not everything is at it appears: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mia_Farrow
I don’t think Mia Farrow had a Christian upbringing. Too many drug addicted and suicided family members. And which normal person could ‘act’ the part of “Rosemary” in “Rosemary’s Baby” (which I’ve never watched because it is too frightening) without being affected by it OR without knowing a little something about it?? Sorry, I don’t buy that it’s all good ‘acting’.

    • steven—meant to include in my post of yesterday that I was not critiizing you or your opinion, I was just rolling mine out. My neglect to do this bothered me all day today. Hope you forgive my harshness—-not an excuse, but I am in the last WILD days of a school year with 200 middle school kids per day. Everything irritates me and my answer to everything is spoken in a GROWL. GRRRRRR. You were a victim of that. Sorry.
