Chef charges whites $18 more than blacks for same plate of food

Bet reports, March 19, 2018, that a Nigerian chef in New Orleans charges his white customers more than twice as much as blacks for a single lunch plate at his pop-up restaurant, Saartj, in the city’s the Roux Carre market.

According to his website, each day chef Tunde Wey offers a single lunch plate with two pricing options:

  • $12 for Black people
  • A “suggested” price of $30 for white people.

Wey says it’s a “social experiment” to bring awareness to racial wealth disparity, and the different pricing “represents the wage disparity between Black and white households in New Orleans.”

According to the left-wing Urban Institute, the median annual income of black  households in New Orleans is $25,806 in New Orleans, compared to $64,377 for white households.

Some white patrons of Wey’s Nigerian-food pop-up restaurant decided to cancel their lunch order. Others, including some blacks, were willing to pay the extra fee after hearing the reasoning behind the 2.5x pricing difference. Wey, however, refused to accept offers from blacks to pay more.

Allegedly, Wey took the net profit ($18) collected from sales to white people and  “redistributed” the money to “customers of color,” totaling about $75 per person.

If this were a white chef charging black customers more, there would be unending cries of “RACISM!” and law suits up his wazoo.

This is so un-New Orleans. Racist Tunde Way should go back to Nigeria.

  5. I live in New Orleans.
It was a so-called “social experiment” he did in February. He told white people what he was doing. He gave them a choice to pay the $30 or the $18. They also answered a questionnaire that was prepared by some Tulane students.
He never says how many people opted to pay the $30. He did say some white people walked away when they were told about the experiment. Supposedly, the extra money white people were charged was given to black people.
So far no one has seen the results of his so-called experiment although I guess the results will be revealed at a talk he is giving later this month.
    Whatever.

  6. Is the income disparity between Whites and Blacks due to IQ distribution? And if so, it seems like the only answer is redistribution of wealth i.e., communism since generally jobs requiring more intelligence and complex skills pay more.It seems to be the real point of this mans experiment.

  7. Someone should set up a diner across the street that does the opposite. Put some picnic tables out in the alley and declare it the “Blacks Only” section. When the cops show up tell them you’re doing a social experiment. He needs to leave for South Africa, now.

    • lophatt . . . . Congratulations! You have just concisely explained just how exactly the system of “transfer of funds ” works in the real world. They should teach this in about 2-3 grades, perhaps we would not end up with so many Socialist Snowfakes as we presently have.

  8. This is racism at its best. But since Blacks cannot be racist, so says the social code of our day, it is OK. All the more reason why I refuse to travel. How is one to know, when traveling outside your immediate area, when they will accidentally end up in a place like this. Just stay at home and spend your money locally.

  9. Social experiment I think that has been going on for a long time take from the rich and give to the poor. Hum I know a lot of white folk who are on the bottom of the food chain. Guess he has never been to the Appalachian mountains in TN and take a look at all the poor there 90% of them are white.
The scale goes both ways I was always told you make your bed you lie in and you make your life what you want it’s up to you.

  10. There’s already a “social experiment” of redistribution – it’s called welfare.

Redistribution doesn’t entice one to work harder or get smarter. Just get free stuff…

  11. I do believe that the disparity that Chef Tunde Wey speaks of in New Orleans (and other locales across the USA) has much to do with one’s education.

As an Black American, I have enjoyed the pleasure of a decent income as do many other Black Americans who got an education, a job and worked hard rather than opting for the government dole.

Btw, what gives these foreigners the right to speak for Black Americans? Oh my bad, eight years of Barack Obama and  Black Americans allowing Progressives to co-opt the Civil Rights movement to push an agenda that is destructive not to just Black America but the nation as a whole.

It is public knowledge amongst many in my community that people from Africa looks down upon American Blacks as do Progressives.  (The disdain by Africans for Black Americans is not up for debate being that I’ve had many arguments with African and Middle Eastern NYC taxi drivers who thought that they had the right to assault my integrity and intelligence as a Black American by expressing as much.)

    Freaking users/hypocrites.

Americans, regardless of ethnicity must take our history (good or bad) and our country back.

    • I agree with you, I wouldn’t either. In fact, there are countless African restaurants in sanctuary New York City. I refuse to give a dime to any of them because (a) I refuse to eat anything from anyone who despises Americans; and (b) I refuse to subsidize these people who pretty much are climbing the ladder on the shoulders of those they despise.

  13. I have no idea what chef Tunde Wey’s ethnic group in Nigeria might be, but if he tried that on another tribe back home, he might end up being fed to the dogs in the street. It was probably a wise move for a PC snowflake like Wey coming to the insane USA where mocking, insulting, and calling for the extermination of the most productive, predominant tribe is official government policy and the main occupation of the universities and media.

Oh what I would like to say…excuse me but this New Orleans ass had totally destroyed himself, let him take credit cards from only blacks because there’s no way in hell I would visit his stupid restaurant. Racist, that’s what he is, and this is going into the same filthy crap that has happened in South Africa. When Mandela started this filth, now these black fools have killed off all the farmers who fed them, and no one will be left. Good luck when you’re starving to death because your stupid racist b.s. has won you over. Fools, all of them are fools. and this crap is starting here. Time to stop it. • Great work catching Wikipedia sowing the kind of hate that should have them in court on charges of promoting and not exposing racism. Where’s the outrage?

With representation by the Republicans in Congress and our voices neutralized by the limpwristed bastards of Conservatism Inc, it’s no wonder some American-hating racist sociologist and hag named Dobrantz can get away with implying that being white is evil and cause for shame.

It’d be one thing if the Republicans and mainstream conservatives were simply traitors to their kind, but the explanation is even worse. As Samuel Johnson put it, and nailing their kind, Republicans and conservatives have that caution cowards borrow from fear and attribute to policy. We’re going down unless we can free ourselves from these useless, lying creeps and do it soon. As it is, it’s looking like Ryan, McConnell, and Sessions (for laying the groundwork), are going to throw the midterms to the Dems to claim their hands are tied.

  19. If there’s one thing that angers me to no end, it’s COMPLETE FREAKING MORONS like Wey who don’t have any idea of what the hell they are talking about.
“Wage disparity?” What about intelligence disparity? How do I know that Wey just hasn’t read anything about the subject, and that he is doing someone else’s bidding? Well, for one thing, he would understand that there is a wage disparity within each and every ethnic group!
Here’s the point: When I go to a restaurant, I want good service and good food. I am not against discussing controversial topics either; I don’t want to be lectured.

Here at the boarding house I live in, an upstairs man, Ray (who happens to be black) has lectured me on the evils of Jim Crow. I am 62 and 11 to 12 years older than Ray, so I know for a fact he DID NOT live through that period of history, but must, of necessity, be carrying the opinions of someone else. And it took Ray a while to understand that, as well read as I am, NO ONE is going to teach me anything about how I arrive at my moral judgments. For what else is politics but necessarily a venue for making value judgments on right and wrong?
It is the same for that group that has (so it claims) suffered more than anyone else in the 20th Century. (And you know whom I am talking about). I do not for one moment deny the historicity of the Holocaust. But isn’t it dishonest for someone who did not endure its horrors (and there were horrors) to claim that suffering as his own when he did not? Suppose we could bring one victim back? What might he say? He might say, “Excuse me: I suffocated in that gas chamber over there, and you did not. Do not claim my own suffering and death as your own—especially when we have never even met!”

And so it goes. To stake a claim at indignity from the suffering of others is the nadir of intellectual arrogance and ignorance. Jesus Christ Commands us to “Judge Ye in Righteousness,” and this requires the burdens of honesty while at the same time renouncing the urge to be the moral arbiter of any imperative!
But, if these caterwauling harridans were to be called on their arrogance, they would howl all the more! (Sort of like, “What, and give up show business?!) And so it goes….

MLK’s dream is not a fantasy. Apparently it is a rather good “dream” that one chef wishes to exploit for a “social experiment.”

          • MLK’s ‘dream’ is a lofty goal and one that will probably never be reached, completely. It is a goal much like being a Christian. We try, but we are all sinners, and always will be. Some will sin less than others and some more.
For the same reason, kapernick taking a knee is wrong headed. This country is not perfect. But the Flag stands for the goal of perfection and all that is good. Not for hate or racisim or division. People that practice such are not honoring the Flag.
If you need to hate, go to a country that is represented by the Flag of hate.

But the last 8 yrs of the last administration did nothing but cause more race hating than any other POTUS in history since the civil war. It will take a few yrs to overturn all this negative outpour from the last one. Give them a chance to help try to change it.

Whites have been made to bury their heads in the sand and leave their arses exposed. Do you know what is going on in South Africa to the Afrikaner/Boer whites? The majority blacks in power have just made it “legal” to take land from whites without compensation. Here is Julius Malema, “leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters” party.

AND—-the border wall is going up and 5G is being rolled out. What is the true purpose of the wall and of 5G? Illegals COULD HAVE been kept out without a wall, IF “our” government had REALLY wanted to keep them out. But they weren’t kept out. Remember, in order to bring about the change you want, it’s always best to create the bogey-man you need.
