How ‘Poltergeist’ child actress Heather O’Rourke died

Heather O’Rourke was the beautiful, platinum-blonde child actress who uttered the famous line, “They’re here!,” in Steven Spielberg’s 1982 horror film, Poltergeist.

O’Rourke reprised her role as Carol Anne Freeling in Poltergeist II and III, and had a recurring role in the TV sitcom Happy Days (1982-83), as well as TV guest appearances.

In February 1988, at the age of 12, O’Rourke died of cardiac arrest and septic shock caused by a misdiagnosed intestinal stenosis (stenosis means abnormal narrowing).

From Wikipedia:

O’Rourke became ill in early 1987 and was misdiagnosed by doctors at Kaiser Permanente Hospital as having Crohn’s disease. She was prescribed prednisone to treat the disease, which caused her cheeks to appear puffy and large.[19] On January 31, 1988, O’Rourke suddenly became ill again, vomiting and unable to keep anything in her stomach. The next morning, she collapsed while preparing to leave for the hospital and her stepfather called paramedics. O’Rourke suffered a cardiac arrest en route to the hospital, and after resuscitation, she was airlifted by helicopter to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego,[10] where she died later that day.

Speaking to reporters, O’Rourke’s manager David Wardlow initially announced that it was believed she died of influenza.[20][21] However, hospital spokesman Vincent Bond announced that O’Rourke died during surgery to repair an acute bowel obstruction (caused by congenital stenosis of the intestine)[22] complicated by septic shock;[3][23] this report was corroborated by the San Diego County coroner’s office on February 3, two days after her death.[24] Later reports changed the specific cause of death to cardiac arrest caused by septic shock brought on by the intestinal stenosis.

Note the changing and varying accounts of the cause of O’Rourke’s death.

O’Rourke’s mother filed a malpractice lawsuit against Kaiser Permanente. Below is an excerpt from the jury verdict:

All experts agreed that Heather’s congenital [intestinal] stenosis was a very rare presentation of a very rare condition and that it was not malpractice to misdiagnose the condition as Crohn’s disease. According to the expert testimony, a narrow bowel usually causes problems early in life, not for the first time at age 11, and it is rare to have few or no symptoms with sudden severe development of a life-threatening condition.

I remember that, upon hearing of her death in 1988, I had thought her “acute bowel obstruction” to be odd. Now, a “blind reveal” on the Hollywood gossip site, Crazy Days and Nights, sheds light on just what the “acute bowel obstruction” was.

Crazy Days and Nights’ blogger calls himself Ent Lawyer (Ent=Entertainment) who says he’s never been sued. He is described by The Daily Beast as having a track record of accuracy. Investigative journalist Mark Ebner said this about Ent Lawyer:

“In my opinion, that’s what makes him so impressive, is that no one knows who he is, and he’s being proven right again and again. That’s like legendary shit.”

Below is the blind reveal on Heather O’Rourke.

Blind Items Revealed #40

Crazy Days and Nights † November 9, 2017

Back in the mid-80’s was peak child molesting time in Hollywood. There was no internet. There were very very few mobile phones. Children came to the set where they were left alone by their parents. For the next 8 hours they were subject to every kind of horrible thing you can imagine. Drugs were commonplace. They were used to try and get the kids to not be so hysterical when being assaulted.

Producers loved casting shows with kids and tweens. If someone pitched a show that involved a handful of tweens with a dozen tween extras per week, it would get a green light. Even if the show was going to suck, and everyone knew it was going to suck, if you got the right pedo at a studio he would say yes just to come for the casting and taping of the pilot. As sad as it is to say, there were a lot of parents who told their kids to go off with the nice man in the suit and do what he says. It was a sick sick time.

It was just past the mid 80’s when a producer came up with the idea of a tween show that not only would feature a rotating cast of extras, but would make the studio a bunch of money because they would film quickly and not hire any adults. Further, the faster they filmed, the more time they would have to molest all the kids that would be hanging around.

From the first day, it was the worst place on earth if you were a kid. The studio where the show was filmed also had several other shows being filmed there, most of which featured lots of children. Executives would drive over to Hollywood right before lunch and would stay at the studio for several hours each day.

Anyway, on this particular show, there was a special guest star. A very special guest star. Still not a tween, everyone knew who she was. Executives flocked to the studio that day to see her. She was first molested when she was 5 or 6 and had continued to be molested throughout her hit movies and also on a previous show.

One of the stars of the show who has spent her life bouncing in and out of rehab because of what she saw, and who was actually nominated for awards from the show, described the atmosphere that day.

“A bunch of f**king pigs. I had just turned 12 or 13. I was the same age as the actress coming in. Maybe a little older. We had been shooting for months and I was old news. They knew I would do what they wanted, but they always wanted someone new. This was someone new and someone they all knew. They had it set up like a peep show almost. She had finished shooting that morning and they brought her out on a stage. The stage was used most of the time for a game show that was taped there. That game show is still on today. I can’t watch it knowing what happened to her there. They brought her out and the front four rows of this theatre were filled with guys who were already rubbing themselves. The girl was wearing a bikini. The show took place around a beach just so they could make these girls wear next to nothing. They had her walk around under the lights. The lights were focused on her and she couldn’t really see out to the audience. She was squinting. It must have been blinding for her. They had her walk back and forth. Then they had her start dancing. All of these guys were doing what another star at that same studio got busted for. This went on for about 20 minutes. Then three of the guys took her to a different area of the studio.”

The actress didn’t see what happened, but about 45 minutes later, one of those three guys came running out and needed a set medic. Apparently they had inserted something inside the girl and things were bad. The medic came and the ambulance came. The parents of the girl were told some crap story. That crap story ended up killing the girl because the parents believed the executives. Two weeks later, the show finished shooting six episodes all at once and then everyone was sent on their way forever. No one wanted the kids around or any witnesses to what happened.

Pedophiles should be shot… slowly, starting at the feet, then inch by inch, moving up, one shot per day. Or maybe skinned alive. Or put in a slow, very slow, meat grinder, feet first. Or all of the above at the same time. Still not enough.

  5. Well, I guess you can just call me a very suspicious old lady, but . . . there is no way I would ever allow a daughter of mine to be taken anywhere outside of where I could see her, and see what was being done to or with her. How could her parents be so trusting? Was the money she was bringing in that great a seduction that they lost all sense of what their obligation as a parent should be?

Although, Kaiser is notorious for hiring some doctors who miss things. I can hardly believe that they would be looking for a foreign object in her colon. This leaves me wondering, when they went in surgically, didn’t they find the foreign object? They had to have narrowed down where the blockage was . . . in fact would they not have done some diagnostic imaging to see what was going on? If diagnostic imagining was done, and they did do surgery–were those medical professionals involved in her treatment paid off? This is so horrifically revolting. That a beautiful young girl would have been sexually abused from the time she was 5-6, all the way up until age 12. That is just such a heinous thought, it just leaves me almost without breath.

We know that Our God can be a God of anger . . . I dare not even think what these evil men (and women) have in store once they stand at the Judgement Bar of God!

Spending all Eternity in Hell with a mental picture of all that they have done to the Lord’s little ones . . . as in having a fiery anguish of remembering 24/7 . . . unrelenting agony of mind and soul, days without end, throughout all Eternity.

I am so repulsed by the very though of this behavior.

Dr Eowyn, although this is a subject that is so troubling, thank you for bringing it to our attention; if for no other reason, that we must always be on the alert when it comes to our children, and the young members of our family, and friends. This is a danger that has become so prevalent, that we must always guard against this evil influence entering into our lives in any way shape or form. This also extends to members of “polite society” refusing to ever watch porn where children are the subject matter.

      • Unfortunately, making a baby is the easy part. Raising one is a whole different matter. I KNOW these people exist. All we have to do is look around. Just look at the perversion we’ve been exposed to since Trump got into office.

It was already there, but now they are DEMANDING that we not only allow it, we’re supposed to pledge allegiance to it. They are like cockroaches with no room left in the walls.

    • Auntie,
I honestly believe the ‘foreign object’ that caused poor Heather’s “blockage” was probably from being anally raped (sodomy)…fecal impaction from sodomy can cause “blockage” and lead to infection.
I agree with the jury…a congenital stenosis of the intestine presenting itself at age 12 is quite “odd” to say the least.
It seems the “parents” didn’t pursue it any further than blaming Kaiser Permanente for their daughter’s death.
For a child to have been molested, and probably raped, since age 5/6 and the mother and step-father (where’s the biological father?) to only be concerned with getting money from a hospital (a hospital that did not cause the probable rape or molestation) is quite telling to me as well as all the movies/shows Heather played in since she was 5 years old.
Her “parents” profited tremendously from this little girl’s efforts, struggles, and strife.
Just looking at her work since age 5 shows all the tv shows and movies she was thrown into…used and abused. Her mother had her regularly ‘working’ and I don’t believe for a second she had no clue her daughter was being abused.
My heart aches for that poor child and all the children who are being sacrificed on the altar of hellywood…why “trusting” parents still allow their children into that hell hole is testament to the fact that not everyone who can reproduce should, and even those who have reproduced don’t, necessarily, have the best intentions for their children…they are usually satanists or satanic.

      • MomOfIV . . . . I cannot agree with you more when you hold up the mother as being highly suspect. How could she possibly not know what was going on? No doubt since Heather was no longer going to be the meal ticket, they decided to sue Kaiser, in order to keep the money coming in. It is far beyond my comprehension that any adult could, or would engage in this kind of activity with a child!

I am daughter of Tammy O’Rourke and all I can say is these rumors are ruining our family. NONE OF THIS IS TRUE.
We can’t speak on behalf of other children that Steven worked with but we can tell you straight up Heather was not raped or molested at ay time.
Biological father was in the picture, don’t know why you are so rude about that. He is a great guy, he just has speech issues and therefore was not big on the scene or interviews.
My grandmother Kathleen O’Rourke would NEVER have let this happen to my aunt and those of you who are just running rampant and claiming this is true while condemning my family while not even checking the facts are monsters.
No one has ever contacted any of us in regards to this and we are very tired of replying to comments like this on the internet.

“Just looking at her work since age 5 shows all the tv shows and movies she was thrown into…used and abused. Her mother had her regularly ‘working’ and I don’t believe for a second she had no clue her daughter was being abused.”

Yeah her mother had no clue because it never fucking happened.

Heather wanted to be a director, Steven bought her a bicycle and they used to ride around the parking lot together on their bikes. He was good to her and our family. Heather loved this business and it is what she wanted as she hoped to have a career in it. She was outspoken and would have spoken up if something was going on.
You can believe whatever lies you want but please refrain from posting about it online and talking shit about my family when you don’t know any facts at all and this article never even mentions he name. The dates don’t even line up correctly.
Someone at least could have tried to contact my family about this yet no one has, all you people do is blindly believe everything and hurt innocent people. Heather’s death was tragic enough with out us having to be put through this.

        • FOTM is simply reporting and republishing a “Blind Item Revealed” by Ent Lawyer of Crazy Days and Nights (CDAN): Nowhere in this post did I claim that what Ent Lawyer wrote is true.

How curious it is that you, who claim to be a family member of Heather O’Rourke, chose to castigate this post — which is a secondary account — instead of the primary source, Crazy Days and Nights. How curious it is that of the 63 readers’ comments on that “Blind Item Revealed” on CDAN, no “Rebecca Walker” or “Tammy O’Rourke” wrote a comment.

If, as you claim, CDAN‘s account of Heather’s death is bogus, I suggest you or Tammy or Steven Spielberg himself sue CDAN for libel, instead of harassing us.

    • Glenn47 . . . . Did you really look at Steven Spielberg in that picture of him with Heather on his lap? It is said that many people have an aura, either for good or for evil that emanates from them. I did not recognize the man as being Spielberg . . . . his looks makes me feel chills up and down my back. He definitely has a look of pure unadulterated EVIL.

  15. I’m guessing there is a special place in Hell for these sick expletives. Those ‘show biz’ parents will do ANYTHING to get their kids famous, they don’t care what it is sometimes. Or they have no real idea what happens because they’re stupidly ‘star struck’ with all the BS glitz that they’ve been taken with.
The mind reels and the stomach sickens to think that anyone would knowingly or even unknowingly do this to their own child or any child or living creature for that matter.
Spielberg is a definite monster, ever see the first opening segment of the “PG” movie in the 80’s called “The Goonies”? I had never seen it and bought a VSH tape of it for my kids. There is a sick scene of a statue (naked and anatomically correct) that the boys ‘break’, and then try to ‘fix’. It’s incredibly disgusting and I threw that tape in the garbage.
Hollywood also did other awful things- look at “Brice Taylor’s novel (that is more true than anything) “Starshine”. It is very disturbing to say the least. This pedophile thing is common, and many people look the other way! You would be surprised at how much this is suppressed…or maybe not.

    • “You would be surprised at how much this is suppressed”

Indeed. The #MeToo movement, spawned by the Harvey Weinstein disclosures, has revealed how powerful Hellywood men sexually abuse ADULT women — and men. Imagine what they do to little children. But we’re just not hearing about that even bigger scandal. No child victims have come forth (Cory Feldman is tainted. He is exploiting his alleged victimhood to make money instead of expose and go after the pedophiles/pederasts.)

      • This stuff has permeated Hollywood since the beginning. Look who owns it. The only difference is that the public’s sensibilities hadn’t been destroyed sufficiently before now.

Now that they have gained some headway in selling perversion they think its OK to celebrate it. They’re probably right. Nothing seems to happen to them. It does, however, create more of a problem for them in suppression of the information than they are used to.

I can’t believe it is just my imagination the picture of little Heather and spielberg, at the top of the ‘post’ appears to me as a clear and vivid comparison of innocence and souless evil. The look in spielberg’s eyes should send shivers down the spine of any parent.

    • It isn’t conclusive that they “hid” her condition. Sometimes they’re just inept. On the other hand, they routinely “hide” the ravages of the pharmaceutical industry. Physicians are probably one of the most frightened professions there is. They are all terrified of being sued or losing their licenses.

Her parents were with her and she was never molested or raped. these stories are hurting heather’s family (my family) and they need to stop.
NONE OF THIS IS TRUE and no one has even tried to get any facts on it other than some article with incorrect dates and people who are not even named.

  22. The Heather atrocity reminds one of the recent prolonged torture and murder
by two male homosexuals of their adopted child. Israel and Russia
do not allow homosexual adoption for obvious reasons. If the American
media owners (six Jews) had any morality, compassion, and
character these two stories would be prominently exposed
in all news media. Instead we have virtual silence.
