Rahm Emanuel declares Chicago a “Trump-free zone” on Colbert’s Late Show

Hey Colbert, why not one “rapid-fire” question about Chiraq’s gun control laws and their inability to deter crime in that city? Guess only TDS material is appropriate for “comedy” shows.

From NBC Chicago: Mayor Rahm Emanuel stopped by “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Monday night to declare Chicago a “Trump-free zone.”

It was Emanuel’s first appearance on the show since Colbert took over for David Letterman in 2015, and he took the opportunity to escalate his criticisms of President Donald Trump, particularly when it comes to immigration policy.

“Our motto: A city he’ll never sleep in. We don’t want him,” Emanuel said to kick off his segment.

Colbert questioned the enforcement of that rule, particularly with “a Trump hotel right on the river there,” to which the mayor touted his record of opposing the Trump administration.

Emanuel mentioned free community college for students, including so-called DREAMers, who maintain at least a B average in high school, suing the Environmental Protection Agency over U.S. Steel dumping in Lake Michigan, as well as the recent adoption of climate change policies by mayors from around the world at a summit in Chicago.

“Look, Donald Trump is driving forward looking through the rearview mirror and I’m not going that way because I want my city going that way,” he said, gesturing forward, “and I want it to be a Trump-free zone.”

“He really, never really likes it when I do that though,” Emanuel added.

Colbert then questioned Chicago’s status as a “sanctuary city,” a term used for jurisdictions that do not detain undocumented immigrants illegal aliens arrested on charges unrelated to their immigration status and turn them over to federal authorities for possible deportation. “How is that not sort of a constitutional crisis?” Colbert asked.

Emanuel deflected at first, returning to a familiar anecdote about the arrival of his immigrant grandfather in Chicago 100 years ago, proclaiming that the city that welcomed his ancestors and made him mayor is “the greatest city in the greatest country in the world.”

“That doesn’t necessarily answer my question,” Colbert pushed back. “I’m all for what you’re doing, but I’m just curious how it doesn’t violate federal law for you to do this.”

“Because the police department in the city of Chicago is not supposed to be enforcing the immigration laws of the United States government. That’s what the federal government is for,” Emanuel responded, adding that stricter enforcement of immigration laws would counteract his work “building relationships between the police department and communities” – an area that has been the subject of intense scrutiny and structural reform in the wake of high-profile police shootings like that of Laquan McDonald in 2014.

“I’m not driving a wedge – that is what Donald Trump wants, is a wedge on the philosophy of community policing,” Emanuel told Colbert. “It’s absolutely antithetical to everything we’re trying to do.”

The duo then delved into a rapid-fire question game called “Fast Round” from the mayor’s podcast “Chicago Stories.”

Emanuel chose Cubs over Sox, thick crust over thin, Hancock over Sears, then (begrudgingly) Willis over Sears, lake over river and 16-inch softball over 12 – a Chicago summer tradition that Colbert said “looks like the moon is eclipsing when it comes at you.”

Colbert’s final question for Emanuel centered on Trump’s declaration last week that the U.S. would recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, asking why the presidents Emanuel worked for (Obama and Bill Clinton) didn’t do it before him. “First of all, no Democrat or Republican president would ever do this,” the mayor said, calling it “bad policy.”

“The fact is, for a whole host of reasons, you do not want the United States in the middle of negotiations about a two-state solution,” Emanuel continued. “You know, my father is from Israel, I’ve been to Israel, my son’s been Bar Mitzvahed there. This is not what a president should be doing.”

Emanuel landed one final dig at Trump, saying his “bigger worry is that he’s not also moving the nation’s capital to Alabama and I’m really more concerned about what he’s doing there,” in a reference to the high-stakes, contentious race to fill Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ former Senate seat.

So no Trump but 600+ violent deaths and UN Peacekeepers are ok, right, Rahm?
Someone needs to give up their psychotropics…

    • Hadenoughalready . . .Under the circumstances that you cited above, how could anybody claim that “Chicago is the greatest city in this whole country?” That is just preposterous, and he is the only one who does not recognize this. Is that because he is a dipwad? I noticed that in this picture the name card in front of him says, “Congressman Emanuel.” Perhaps I am not up to speed, but I did not know that he had ever been a Congressman, I just thought that he was a member of Obummer’s cabinet.

A city proud of their illegal queer mayor…..I’m sure Trump does not care to spend any more time there than necessary.

    • We’re not proud of him. Voting doesn’t work here in Illinois.

        • lophatt . . . I’m beginning to think that you are right on the money with that idea! Now here in Multnomah County (Portland, OR) they have come up with the idea to extend the tax on bottles. They want to tax not only soda pop, but extend the tax to include all bottled juices, bottled tea, juice boxes, etc. I don’t even know what they are saying the money is for, because once they get their hands on our money, it just goes wherever they want it to go, not what was originally planned for.

      • molly . . . thank goodness to hear from a citizen of Chicago. It is very nice to learn that not everyone there has fallen under the spell of this guy! I grieve for the fact that “voting doesn’t work here in Illinois.” I am afraid that those of us who live in Oregon are faced with the same problem. No matter what, the libtards up and down the valley, Portland to Corvallis, can outvote any conservative in the Portland area, and certainly the conservatives over in the Eastern Oregon region. It is something that is so depressing, yet we must forge ahead and try to do what is right.

I live half time in Oregon. Couldn’t understand the anti Bundy bias coming out of Portland, their investigative reporter actually getting kudos from Uranium One. Then I saw who owned the Oregonian: Newhouse (Neuhaus) Family. Oregonians need to escort these Voodoo Doughnut eating Eastern liberals out of town starting with the Governor: If it’s Brown, Flush it down!

          • Jumping Jehoshaphat . . . Your comments regarding “The Oregonian” are right on the money! Anything they write is so horribly biased toward liberal Progressiveness that the common reader’s mind is poisoned by the garbage they feed us. Years ago, I subscribed to that rag of a paper, but then I caught on, they do not necessarily tell the truth. The readership has gone down, in part to the advent of the internet. All I can say to that is Thank Goodness! But then, we will always have people who search out sites that spout the Progressive line. It is a shame that all the people who are on the public dole are allowed to vote. They consistently vote to continue the “gravy train,” at the expense of those who are actually working. It is not a good thing when people can vote themselves perks at the expense of others. As far as I am concerned, those who actually own property, or who actually work (with the exemption of those on Social Security, who previously worked) should not be allowed to vote on matters involved money issues . . . since they do not pay the bills.

  4. Normal people would never go yo your city. It, like you, is total lawlessness, so why the exodus of good people? Your ancestors came illegally? All of ours came legally. You sold your soul to Satan for the love of money. If you loved this country you would be for USA and the people. You, Rahm, are pure evil!!!!!

    • Jumping Jehoshaphat

What he so cleverly failed to disclose is how his father, now a retired pediatrician living in US, is a former Israeli Irgun terrorist. How he was able to secure permission to come live here is mind boggling. Take a look at some of the pictures of the damage (91 people died in the 1946 King David Hotel bombing) Sort of a mini 911?

Rahm is a dual citizen (Israeli/American). He’s not worried about
Gentiles killing Gentiles in Chicago. Jews don’t waste any pity on non Jews:

In the Talmud (Hilkoth Akrum, X, 1), Maimonides says, “Do not have pity for them. Show no mercy unto them. Therefore, if you see one in difficulty of drowning, do not go to his help… “

      Liked by 1 person

      • Yeah, he’s a “dual citizen”. He should leave and get a post on the Knesset.

      • Jumping Jehoshaphat . . . Wow! Thank you for the education. I had no idea that Emanuel was a duel citizen. I really do not think that anyone holding dual citizenship should bee allowed to serve in any capacity in any government . . . Federal, State, County, or City governments. It is just counter intelligent, and not in the best interest of the citizens of this nation. It is very good that you have brought up the teaching from the Talmud regarding how they are to treat non-Jews; yet, see the amounts of monies that us non-Jew taxpayers pony up for their defense and well being! This certainly is pretty weird, if in return they think we are nothing but inconsequential P’sOS (as in plural of POS.)

  6. Then President Trump should simply withdraw the billions of dollars that taxpayers give to Chicago, including:

  8. President Trump doesn’t want to sleep in Chicago, because he has more than seven years left to serve as President. 😊 He needs to stay alive in order to do that. In fact, anyone with a God-given love of life should never go to sleep in Chicago – they might wake up dead.

Rahm and Stephen are two filthy homo perverts who have been given over to a reprobate mind.

  11. My approach still stands. Just build another wall. Let them all dress in leather and drag and chase each other through the streets playing “odds and ends” all day. If the blacks don’t gun ’em down they’ll die of AIDS.

Look at those two slime balls. You can tell Colbert likes it. I wonder which one is the “top”? Trump aside, what does this say about the state of government in the U.S.? They foment hate and disorder. Their behavior is seditious.

So what’s it gonna be? Is it North Korea for them or Israel? Obviously they’d be much happier in either. We don’t need them here. If they stay here we need a wall.

    • I don’t mind a wall with libs (RINOs, progressives, commies, atheists) on one side and conservatives on the other…I don’t think libs would like living amongst one another for too long without creating some sort of conflict and drama…they seem to thrive on it.

  12. My free advice for Rahm:
Better to keep one’s mouth shut and be thought a fool…
well, you know the rest of that one. You break it regularly.

BTW, we’re not expecting cities, counties, and states to enforce federal immigration policies… we’re expecting them to not BREAK the law by simply releasing arrested illegals already in their custody, notifying the feds, and then releasing those arrests to the feds for processing according to the LAW.

Instead, they think it’s their CHOICE to release said prisoners to show their contempt of federal law… and to what end, gain votes? Increase crime and violence? Get more federal assistance in dealing with their over-burdened dealings with those very illegals they allow to stay??? It’s insanity.

EVERYONE loses but the illegals, and the worst affected are the citizens here legally who are then further victimized AND forced to pay higher taxes to support such illegals!

    When will they ever learn…

    Liked by 3 people

    • Yes, I realize that is the case. Beyond the details, they are showing contempt for the government of the United States in the same way that a “Fifth Column” might in a coup.

They are saying “we’ll take your money but we refuse to recognize your authority”. I say they can do that……if they secede. If a state or local official defies the duly authorized representative of the federal government, acting within their lawful capacity, they have committed a crime.

Even though there are many laws that I don’t agree with, I cannot simply decide to refuse to adhere to them without consequences. If just adds fuel to the fire to ask for continued funding.

If I were king it wouldn’t take me five minutes to send the federal marshals to arrest the lot of them. I wonder how Moonbeam looks in orange?

  13. What a beauuuuuutiful pic of the mayor kissy-kissy, he really looks queer in that picture! Won’t be long for Chicago to be free of the Emanuel, the murders, the illegals, the gangs, the gay pride celebration and all the naked queers parading up and down the streets, then, Chicago will be EMANUEL FREE-ZONE – end of corruption the beginning of decency.

  16. Pretty sure Trump is relieved that Chicago will remain “Trump Free.” Isn’t it a little like being in charge of the family reunion and the most problematic of your “in-laws/out-laws,” to whom you STILL have to send an invitation every year out of relationship/courtesy, sends you a message that they derisively (they hate you, don’t ever want to see you again, don’t want to come) “DECLINE” the invitation? Whew! OFF THE HOOK! That means that Chicago is responsible for Chicago. Go for it Rahm! We’ll just sit on the sidelines and continue to observe! Thanks! AT LEAST, the undertakers in Chicago have NEVER experienced an Obama economic depression or forced socialism….death is NOT a respector of any of THAT, esp. in good old “Chi” Town. You STILL have to pay for “death” even if not for “taxes.” Plenty of death going around there, and a tacit promise of MORE of the SAME from this pervert Mayor. (And, that pervert part is a whole ‘nother discussion….don’t get me started…..).
