John McCain slams “half-baked, spurious nationalism” sweeping the US

From Yahoo (via GMA): Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., slammed “half-baked, spurious nationalism” in an impassioned speech while accepting the Liberty Medal in Philadelphia.

McCain, who was presented with the medal by former Vice President Joe Biden, began by saying he was humbled by the award before eventually lashing out at the nationalism that has swept the U.S. and warning against leaving the nation’s place of prominence in the international community.

“To fear the world we have organized and led for three-quarters of a century, to abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe, to refuse the obligations of international leadership and our duty to remain the last best hope of earth for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems is as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history,” McCain said, to applause.

“We live in a land made of ideals, not blood and soil,” he continued. “… We have done great good in the world. That leadership has had its costs, but we have become incomparably powerful and wealthy as we did.”

He added: “We have a moral obligation to continue in our just cause, and we would bring more than shame on ourselves if we don’t. We will not thrive in a world where our leadership and ideals are absent. We wouldn’t deserve to.”

In introducing McCain, Biden praised his “courage and loyalty.”

“I can think of no better description for the man we’re honoring tonight,” Biden said.

McCain revealed in July that he had been diagnosed with brain cancer. He has clashed with President Donald Trump over Republicans’ repeated attempts to repeal and replace Obamacare, including most recently when he said he could not “in good conscience” vote for the Graham-Cassidy bill. In response, Trump called McCain’s opposition to the bill “terrible, honestly terrible.”

  1. Johnny’s been a sell-out his whole life. He will gladly die as one

    • Maryaha . . . I just wish he would “die as one” sooner rather than later. After reading about all the deaths that are attributed to him while serving on that carrier during the Viet Nam war . . . he is such an A _ _ W _ _ _ _ that his “hot doggin” the plane he was flying caused the deaths of over 100 young sailors aboard that ship. It is the height of lunacy that he would be awarded ANYTHING . . . I would not even nominate him to receive a gold plated dog poop scooper, better that he have to use his hands. It is criminal that the citizens of Arizona have chosen to return him to the Senate again, and again, and . . . . . . . .

I certainly hope that he succumbs to the brain cancer that is eating away at his brain . . . . because it certainly shows that his thinking is highly impaired at this point in time.

      • he said he has a deadly form of brain cancer…yet he’s still mowing around and spitting on real americans with his liberal/progressive/globalist antics….
        unfortunately, I don’t believe he’s dying from brain cancer…I think he’s a liar.
I do however, want him to prove me wrong….he said it’s deadly…he needs to prove it.

  3. McCain was better off in his role as the songbird of Hanoi. No wonder Vietnam vets and their families hate this slimebag.

    • Waco Bob . . . because his father and grandfather were high up in US Naval hierarchy . . . he got away with things that other men would have been court martialed for. It is outrageous, and a terrible stain on the history of our Navy.

John McCain continues to proclaim he is a Republican – what a facade that he continues to hang on himself. He has been a loser all of his life under the banner of a demorat. He helped Obama/Hillary Clinton form ISIS. He and Obama are now MAD because our President/Mattis have brought ISIS TO the point they have called a ” KING’S X” moment and that was not their plans.

Time to put ISIS in prison for a period of time for their war crimes, including Obama/McCain.

    • komonsentsjane . . . . . . I a 100% behind the idea of that sleezy old reprobate being charged with war crimes. He certainly qualifies as a war criminal . . . at every turn, McCain blocked the process of searching and trying to identify those men who might have remained alive in Viet Nam when we pulled out. This sucker needs to burn in Hell, until there is not so much left of him as two atoms that are attached to one another.

  5. This guy’s whole life seems to have been him being put into situations he was unable to deal with successfully.
First his father, then the Republican Establishment.

Some of the situations were setups he was unable to foresee, like that run for president. He was never intended to win that, and Sarah almost managed to win it in spite of him.
But I think he just did what he was told and never had to plan or foresee; just show up and warm a seat.

So opposite President Trump, no wonder they do not get along.
    McCain is a creep.

Is he going to ever stand up and do something right for the American People instead of catering to his backers and blaming it all on Trump?

    I think not.

  8. I find it all sad. As he gets into his doddering years, he’s completely reverting back (as many do) to the indiscretions of his youth, when he rebelled openly against the establishment and ways of his father and grandfather, hating the fact he was following their footsteps into the military because he had nothing else to offer his country, much as he finds himself taking up space in the U.S. Senate today.
Whether his brain cancer played any part in his downfall is beyond me, but I doubt things would have turned out much different even without it… it’s just human nature.

    • cogitoergosumantra . . . . . I certainly do agree with you. Even without the onset of brain cancer, he has always been a man without any degree of personal integrity . . . and he will never change. Better he go to the next world, where he can be assigned to an Eternity in the regions of Hell!

  9. Soros could not have made that speech better, John! For those who care, you and Joe have given us understanding of your definition of words such as “loyalty” and “liberty.” And, “We live in a land of ideals.” What ideals, those held in the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, or do you consider them dogma with an expiration date long gone by and replaced in the last seventy-five years by the “sacred” charters of the Council on Foreign Relations and the United Nations? Some people just love that money from countries that hate our real ideals.

  12. His daddy, Admiral McCain was responsible for calling back the fighter jets that were scrambled when Israel attacked the U.S.S. Liberty. The turd doesn’t fall from the horse’s butt, apparently.
He’s a globalist NWO shill, just like daddy was. He’s doing the satanic freemason’s bidding is all. HE is a traitor. He hates this country. That’s easy to see from his BS rhetoric. The USA needs to get rid of their central banks and get rid of interest rates the robber baron banks charge. That would help the country right now. But McLAME doesn’t want to help the country.
And, he let that brain cancer go to his head.

  13. I’m sure I speak for a majority of my fellow Americans when I say John McCain can kiss my assets. If he is the best example of a leader then the woods are full of them. BTW, wonder if it has ever occured to him that those of us who love and pray for our country are getting their prayers answered. He’s an obstacle being removed.

    • chemtrailssuck . . . You have hit on such a profound idea. I cannot remember which country it was (Greenland or Iceland) threw the central banks out of their country. They got control of their own money . . . and now they have a vibrant economy, and their people are not at the mercy of the “robber baron banks.” I for one would love to see the United States disband the Federal Reserve Bank, and once again resume controlling our own currency. Far to many US citizens DO NOT KNOW, do not have the faintest idea that “The Federal Reserve” is a private corporation whose profits line the pockets of the individuals involved in this private bank. Here they control our currency, they rob and plunder the American people. All this crap brought to us by that horrible Progressive President Wilson back in about 1913. For more than 100 years, the American citizens have lived with the yoke of The Federal Reserve stealing the life’s blood out of us.

    • Sorry, I goofed up and did not get this positioned just below “chemtrailssuck’s” comments.

    • Youghn . . . . I have NO DOUBT that The Lord has been answering our prayers relative to getting a President who would work for our best good; and work towards trying to get our nation out of the various predicaments we seem to be entangled in. Just look at what has happened the last 2-3 days, the Clinton Uranium traitor ship deal has finally made it to the front burner. May the FBI, DOJ, and Senator Grassley hold all those who have committed treason against this nation to be brought to a swift and very public degree of justice. It really is high time. Sometimes, even though we may pray for something, it may not come about “The Lord’s time,” which I can tell you from personal experience is not quite as swift as Auntie Lulu’s time frame. I seem to always want things done . . . yesterday.
