Trump likely to rescind Obama “Dreamer” program

Works for me.

From NY Post: U.S. President Donald Trump is likely to rescind an Obama-era policy that protects nearly 600,000 immigrants who entered the country illegally as children and are known as “Dreamers,” according to media reports on Friday.

Trump’s decision on whether to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, policy could be announced as early as next week, reported ABC News, citing multiple sources.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions discussed the program with senior White House officials on Thursday, according to an administration official.

Department of Homeland Security spokesman David Lapan denied reports that the department had made any recommendations on DACA to the White House. “There have been continuing discussions about DACA but nothing has been determined,” Lapan told Reuters.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters on Friday that the program continues to be under review. A White House spokesperson told Reuters that only Congress can legislate a permanent solution for the plight of children who are currently protected from deportation by DACA.

Trump had pledged on the election campaign trail to scrap all of former President Barack Obama’s executive orders on immigration, including DACA.

Immigrant advocates reacted to the news with a flurry of statements, promising to defend the program with protest and legal action.

“Immigrant youth fought to create the DACA program and we will fight like hell to defend it,” said Greisa Martinez Rosas, Advocacy Director and DACA-beneficiary of United We Dream said in a statement.

Civil rights groups said ending the program could increase racial divisions in the country in the wake of the recent violence in Charlottesville.

Ten Republican state attorneys general in June urged the Trump administration to rescind the DACA program, while noting that the government did not have to revoke permits that had already been issued. If the federal government did not withdraw DACA by Sept. 5, the attorneys general said they would file a legal challenge to the program in a Texas federal court.

The 10 who signed the letter represent Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia.

A larger coalition of 26 Republican attorneys general had challenged the Obama-era policy covering illegal immigrant parents, known as DAPA, that had been blocked by the courts before it took effect. The Department of Homeland Security rescinded that policy earlier this year.

  1. Unless I missed it, the NYPost article doesn’t detail how the “dreamers” will be removed to their country of origin.

Or is the loophole? “Ten Republican state attorneys general in June urged the Trump administration to rescind the DACA program, while noting that the government did not have to revoke permits that had already been issued.”

So, presumably, no new ‘permits’ could be issued if DACA is rescinded, but ALL of the previously issued permits are A-OK? So the millions of illegal progeny can remain which means all of their parents will remain.
(Didn’t Reagan do something similar if memory serves?)

Well, that’s nice. Again, illegal activity is rewarded, unless you’re a legal citizen, in which case, you’d best pay your taxes with a smile.

Well-sorta. I think that,by LAW,they were coming here legally;to the best of their knowledge. I doubt they’d realize that DACA was unconstitutional and should have been nullified. OTOH,There’s still the old back-up phrase-“Ignorance of the law is no excuse…”

These DREAMERS – are they not able to dream in their home country? This certainly makes their home country look bad if they won’t stay in their home country, run for elected office, and help change their own country? We have our own dreamers in the U.S. who have not been able to be DREAMERS because under OBAMA, THE TERRORIST.

    • Excellent point, and I’m sincerely hoping this Administration will change the WAY America helps other Countries’ people;rather than bringing them HERE and GIVING ‘EM STUFF,help them improve conditions WHERE THEY LIVE. That’ll be more effective, and it’ll be FAR cheaper-more bang for the buck,so to speak.

    • Anonymous . . . Thank you for reminding us via the above picture. As far as I am concerned these young men should be among the first to be sent home. It always a travesty that they were allowed to pose as “children” and the US Taxpayer shouldered keeping them.

      I say GO TRUMP GO!

      • Just like the “children” (grown men) who are “migrants” to Europe — because they’re escaping Syria (supposedly) but are actually coming from a number of different African countries and being taxied over in ships funded by NGOs.
Now, WHO would want the destruction of Europe and America I wonder?

  5. Was the original “deferral’s” intent to provide such children reasonable time to either become LEGAL citizens or return to their home country (or elsewhere)? If so, why would there still be 600,000 who still haven’t even begun (I’m guessing) to go through the process of legalization?
And if they made that explicit decision to NOT become citizens, what’s the problem with then deporting them? We gave them a break, deferred deportation until they could grow and mature a bit and decide whether citizenship in this great, tolerant country that was giving them shelter was WORTH it to them… or whether they’d instead rather go back to wherever their parents had brought them here from (or elsewhere). So get with the program or head out. Why would any logical person have issue with that?
Because liberals aren’t logical. They believe “anything goes”; just demand it. And the kids are no longer told to LOVE the US and want to join it. They want to live IN it and reap its benefits, just not be part of it or give anything back.

But Trump’s assertion has long been he will allow them to stay. Anybody know what changed his mind? Was it Arpaio and his situation? The Wall?

    • You’re right-there IS a mandate that they either get after becoming legal, productive Americans or they go back. Part of the problem now is that, silly us,our Knows-All Government has “lost” them-no CLUE where they are. The “saving “grace” here is that, since they’re NOT American Citizens, they have no Constitutional rights. That can open a lot of doors towards searching them out and deporting their asses forthwith. (No detention-the bus is waiting outside, say goodbye.)

  7. Trump Admin need to be prudent. Someone who their parents brought has a child has no ties to the old country. If they are not criminals it doesn’t benefit anyone to deport them….

  9. I wish Trump would audit the Federal Reserve (like Ron Paul wanted to do) and stop the ‘smart’ meter roll out program!! The smart meter roll out is incredibly dangerous to the entire country and every person that lives within 300 yards of a ‘smart meter’.

  10. That’s OK! All Dreamers can come to Illinois!

Illinois already has same-day voter registration, which makes it impossible to vet illegal voters, and also allows illegal aliens to get licenses, and now this.
Illinois for all intents and purposes, became a sanctuary state.

Gov. Rauner thinks this’ll get the illegal alien vote for the GOP.
