…and changes the world!

Saul’s Conversion

1Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest 2and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. 3As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

5“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.

“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. 6“Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

7The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. 8Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. 9For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.

10In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!”

“Yes, Lord,” he answered.

11The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. 12In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”

13“Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem. 14And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.”

15But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. 16I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”

17Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, 19and after taking some food, he regained his strength.

Saul in Damascus and Jerusalem

Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. 20At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. 21All those who heard him were astonished and asked, “Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?” 22Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.

23After many days had gone by, there was a conspiracy among the Jews to kill him, 24but Saul learned of their plan. Day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him. 25But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall.

26When he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple. 27But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus. 28So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. 29He talked and debated with the Hellenistic Jews,a but they tried to kill him. 30When the believers learned of this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.

31Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.

– Acts 9:1-31

Saul was horrible.

We could compare him with both ISIS and the Bolsheviks for his rabid hatred of the Christian Church. He was as cruel as either group. And he was right in the midst of his personal jihad to purge the land of this hated sect. But when the risen Lord smacked him off his horse and blinded him, he had a change of heart.

Just some food for thought.

  1. The advertisement at the bottom of this great article shows a promo for Jay-Z and his new rap album. I am not a fan of his. Somehow, I think this is an inspired placement that ties directly to his behavior, that of his wife Beyonce, and the biblical message of Saul.

Paul is the Apostle of the gentiles. Until him and his message of the Cross, and the resurrection of Jesus as the final end all sacrifice for the whole world, gentiles had no hope for salvation.

We are saved by faith in the Gospel of the crucifixion of Jesus as the son of God and his resurrection, and that alone. That is the simple message of Paul. Yet every denomination would have us believe we need to live as Jewish converts, still struggling under the burden of the law of the “Ten Commandments” which the Jews themselves could not uphold.

If one has true faith they will still struggle with their conscience throughout their life, but salvation is of the grace of God that none can earn with their works.

  4. Loved this post and it’s message. I try to get off my self and listen to avoid being smacked to my senses…but sometimes that’s the only thing that’ll work

    • In re “… when the risen Lord smacked him off his horse and blinded him, he had a change of heart.” let me just add poet William Blake’s fervent Christian lines: “The tigers of Wrath are wiser than the horses of Instruction.”

We very often ignore the horses of divine Instruction, as they arrive at inconvenient moments or we’re too busy at the time. I know I did. So when He wanted my full attention the tigers of Wrath were sent, and while they mauled me, I was left alive to see if I’d learned anything.

Being a hard-headed sinner who wanted to do it ‘my way’ at one time, that reprieve made me awaken as I wandered in the Dark Forest of my middle-aged life. By returning to Bible study and entering fellowship w/other former sinners I was enabled to restore that of God in me, which had never left me, but I ignored for 45 years. That was 30 years ago: the change has made ALL the difference.

  5. Saul was a powerful weapon in the religion of Judaism, killing Christians and persecuting those who were opposed to Judaism. Today Judaism is the most anti-Christ religion on the planet and using Islam and any other religion as a cover to destroy Christianity around the world. This is why Jesus called the Jews,( not to be confused with the children of Jacob/Israel)
Children of satan, john 8:44 and why revelation 2:9 & 3:9 call them the synagogue of satan. Let God be true and every man a liar!
Jesus always said that “It is written”, that means we are supposed to see what his word says about all things and not to listen to men.
Islam is not mentioned in the bible but Judaism it’s evil rebellion of the true Mesiah is spoken of from Genesis to Revelation.
Scripture says that all who believe on Jesus will be saved and all who reject Him are cursed already, John3:16-20.
Most people do not know the difference between The children of Israel and the jews,,, and most preachers are blind to this truth also. You can not be a Jew and a Christian at the same time, you are one or the other as both have completely different beliefs and no where in the Bible does it say that Jews are Gods chosen or that the country of Israel is the promised land, Hebrews 11 says that the promise is a heavenly place. There is a reason why scripture says that even the very exact will be deceived, maybe we should find out what that means because deception is running rampant on the earth today.
Jews own and control almost all banking and stock markets, they print our money and buy up all profitable business and weapons for war, this is why the Fed has never and will never be audited,
Almost all television, Hollywood and news media,
They are in the highest ranks of governments in the US and around the world,
Rothchilds are all satanist, they also are all Zionist,
911, the USS Liberty and all other disasters and false flag events are to make them rich and powerful and take away our freedoms and liberty.

Brother Mark, what do you mean by “not to be confused with the children of Jacob/Israel?” I honestly don’t know what that means.

I also have to challenge the statements that follow: “You can not be a Jew and a Christian at the same time, you are one or the other as both have completely different beliefs and no where in the Bible does it say that Jews are Gods chosen or that the country of Israel is the promised land,”

All the apostles were Jews who recognized Jesus as the Jewish Messiah, and were therefore both therefore Jew and Christian, but with a new understanding due to the new covenant and the fulfillment of the old covenant.

All through the old testament the children of Israel are called God’s chosen people. The ones who honored the Lord and obeyed His commands remained in His grace, while the ones who turned to other gods incurred God’s wrath.

The land on the other side of the Jordan was specifically promised to Abraham as an inheritance to Abraham’s descendants.

I do agree with you that today’s Jews often view Christians negatively, and some are indeed the synagog of Satan.

But our understanding of the New Covenant, the Messiah, the Cross, and the blood atonement are based on the Jewish scriptures from Genesis to Malachi. Without them we have no understanding of Jesus.

    • Problem is, those who profess to be ‘religious’ and are working for the NWO are not who they claim to be. No matter if they are Catholic, Protestant, Jehovah Witness, Jewish, Muslim, whatever they say they are, if they are doing the devil’s bidding they aren’t following God. They are hiding behind their religion to do evil.

  6. Saul/ Paul’s story had a profound effect on me and my own conversion. Paul had a type A personality and he was determined to destroy all the nascent Christians. So back when I was still an atheist I would look at this story and think there are two options for Paul assuming that the true story is true. 1) he has to die, 2) he has to be converted. Converting him is a powerful symbol but it is also merciful. If he were just to be killed he would be condemned but instead he is granted entrance into the kingdom. That’s mercy. If you look at Paul’s life it’s a harsh Mercy but we always have to remember that’s not all there is.

  7. And, Saul thought he was doing God’s work, but he wasn’t! Pray for your enemies and pray they see the Light that is the Lord! Pray for the one you dislike the most, I get the feeling the devil doesn’t like when we pray that our enemies find God! 🙂
