Senate Democrats may refuse to vote on Trump FBI pick

Sen. Chuck Schumer

Schumer sticking to the talking point: Russia!

The party of obstruction.

From Yahoo: The top Democrat in the U.S. Senate said on Sunday that Democrats would consider refusing to vote on a new FBI director until a special prosecutor is named to investigate President Donald Trump’s potential ties to Russia.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said his caucus has not yet made a decision on whether to withhold their votes, but added that the issue is being looked at as a way to ensure there is a thorough investigation of alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.

“To have that special prosecutor, people would breathe a sigh of relief because then there would be a real independent person overlooking the FBI director,” Schumer told CNN’s “State of the Union” program.

Trump sparked a political firestorm when he abruptly fired James Comey, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation last week. The FBI has been investigating alleged Russian meddling in the U.S. election and possible ties between Moscow and the Trump campaign.

Russia has denied the claims and the White House says there was no collusion.

Trump, who has sought better relations with Russia, has continued to question whether Russia was behind the hacking of email accounts belonging to Democrats involved in Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

But Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told NBC’s “Meet the Press” program on Sunday there is no question that “the Russians were playing around in our electoral processes.”

He defended Trump’s decision to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in the Oval Office last week. “It’s in the interest of the American people, it’s in the interest of Russia and the rest of the world that we do something to see if we cannot improve the relationship between the two greatest nuclear powers in the world,” Tillerson said.

Democrats have accused Trump of attempting to thwart the FBI’s probe and have called for some type of independent inquiry into the matter.

Trump has said he removed Comey because he was not doing a good job and that Comey lost the support of FBI employees.

The Justice Department began interviewing candidates for the FBI director job on Saturday. Some people under consideration include acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas, New York Appeals Court Judge Michael Garcia and former Assistant Attorney General Alice Fisher, according to a White House official.

If the Senate vote on an FBI director were to break down along strict party lines, Democrats would not have the votes to block a nominee.

Republicans control both chambers of the U.S. Congress. They hold 52 seats in the 100-member Senate, enough to approve a FBI nominee provided that no more than two Republican senators break ranks. In the event of a tie vote, Vice President Mike Pence would cast the deciding vote.

“The key is getting some of our Republican colleagues to join us,” Schumer said. Republican leaders in the Senate have rebuffed calls for a special prosecutor, saying it would interfere with ongoing congressional probes.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said on Sunday there may come a time when a special prosecutor is needed but not now. “Right now, it is a counterintelligence investigation, not a criminal investigation. So you don’t need a special prosecutor,” Graham said on “Meet the Press.”

  1. As long as I live, I will always be waiting for my chance of settling the score with these commies.
And I tell anyone who will listen what’s going on and the dangers.

The adversity of the last several years has awoken many, and forced us to re-define our core values.

    That’s the good news.
The bad news is while we were in la-la land the Left has secured much power and many ‘followers’.

My state of Virginia is lost.
Two scumbag Democratic Senators, and a major asshole Democratic governor.
Emblematic of how the state GOPs have allied with the commies to ensure their uninterrupted cashflow.

    • MeThePeople . . . Oh! My Heavens . . . when you wrote . . .”Two scumbag Democratic Senators, and a major asshole Democratic governor,” I would have though you were talking about Oregon, if you had not prefaced this comment with the indication that you were referring to the State of Virginia. Yes, we conservatives here in Oregon suffer with the very same dilemma. All the liberals who have moved up here from California have taken over, they are able to out vote those of us who have a modicum of common sense. Even the major of Portland is a scumbag liberal Progressive POS. Such is the state of things all around the country, and we are the poorer for it.

As far as Chuck Schumer goes, I cannot stand to even look at his ugly, repulsive, sneering, conniving face . . . it turns my stomach. I just hope that the Republicans can surmount any effort he tries to put in place. As far as President Trump firing Comey . . . I think it should have been done sooner, rather than later. I agree with the President, Comey was a showboating POS. I don’t believe that Comey should have ever been offered a 10 year contract, as was the case under Obummer.

      I agree 100% with the sentiment . . . “GO TRUMP!”

      • Pretty witty!
The guys in Virginia are exceptionally bad. Warner, Kaine and McAuliffe.
Dare you to name me three worse sacks of crap.
Actually there is an extensive list, even if you do not include California.

These Leftists filtered down from New York, and of course the DC culture is also spreading.
My home state NY & NYC has been toast for decades.
I think it’s unfair to refer to these bums as Liberals. I think the pols referring to themselves as Liberals or Conservatives are using the terms as an excuse to not have to fulfill the will of the People.
The People are too short sighted and ignorant to share their intellectual perspective of governance like they do. Which is total bullshit.

When you witness the labyrinth of obstacles in place and see how devious they are, you realize it is hard to follow that old adage “To follow the money”. The Congress has fixed it up so that the majority of the stealing is impossible to follow unless someone screws up or gets REALLY greedy enough to invoke jealousy in the other party.
The establishment is doing everything short of assassinating our guys, and I imagine that will be next.
But many will not remain docile if that occurs.

      • Oh so,true. And the lies Schumer spews and how the liberals constantly contradict themselves. They are pathetic.
When is enough enough? When they finally manufacture the evidence.
After all these months, nothing and told to us by the higher ups.
Remember the Russians were not the first they blamed, first they tired riots, then recounts, which worked against them. They are pulling this crap out of their nether regions. It is all about seeing what sticks.
Clinton was the one that had contact with the Russians and made plenty.
I do wish Trump would go silent on everything for a few weeks and see what happens. I would also set some traps, give different people different news and see what surfaces.

  4. Schumer the Doomer is infamous for his obstructionist moves. Nothing new with him. What I can’t figure out is who is controlling (read: blackmailing) him. I would love to have the intell made public. With Schmuckles the Clown out of the way, the leftists would be severely handicapped.

The control Israel has over our Government is nothing less than a STRANGLEHOLD. Trump would do well to ditch—DEFENESTRATE!—Kushner & Ivanka ASAP! That would send a right signal.

    • Steven, I’d say it’s Schumer who’s doing the controlling and blackmailing. The irony in all this is that it’s Israel and its fifth column that interferes in our elections like no other, engages in sabotage that includes 911, and uses espionage against our industries and military to the extent of being an act of war.

One thing I’ve noticed is that mainstream conservatives, even Pat Buchanan, still repeat the official 911 narrative despite overwhelming, expert scientific and engineering evidence that the official narrative must be false and that the buildings must have been brought down by controlled demolition. This willful falsification of reality places them squarely within the ideological camp represented by Schumer, that, as Rove boasted about the deep state, creates a reality of its own that we can either take or leave, but will pursue its goals nonetheless.

It’s also indicative of this ideological conformity among both parties that Comey, like every other sell out to Israel, has stated that the the Holocaust, and not the death and resurrection of Our Lord, is the greatest event in human history. Schumer can afford to be a grinning devil with opposition like the Republicans in the other side of the same bed.

  8. PDJT’s choice for new FBI director will either make or break “law and order” in the U.S.A. The FBI will either be cleaned out or all faith in their integrity will forever be destroyed. The top echelons of the FBI all need to be fired. The CIA/FBI act as one in the U.S.A. under the JTTF and other counter-terrorism programs. We don’t need judges, lawyers or political hacks to run the FBI. Screw the Uniparty senators (R&D are two wings of the same bird). Support PDJT’s pick for the agency or be voted out at the first opportunity.

Comey/McCabe and their top lieutenants have buried Dennis Montgomery’s sworn testimony and production of 600 million page evidence of illegal surveillance for 2+years. McCabe has “compartmentalized” (walled off) all investigations of any significance. I am truly disgusted with the level of cover-up/criminal deception in both the FBI and CIA.

There may not be a quorum available for a vote by the time Trump rounds up all the law-breaking Swamp Critters. The Federal Grand Jury’s are pumping out indictments faster than politicians getting in front of a camera [or leaking classified information].
