Sunday Devotional: The Chosen People

1 Peter 2:9

You are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood,
a holy nation, a people of his own,
so that you may announce the praises” of him
who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

So many Christians give their uncritical, absolute support to Jews, no matter their acts and character, in the peculiar and mistaken belief that Jews are still God’s chosen people. In so doing, these Christians not only ignore Jesus’ own words at the Last Supper, they render moot and purposeless our Lord’s sacrifice of Himself for humanity:

Luke 22:14-15, 19-20

When the hour came,
he took his place at the table,
and the apostles with him.
He said to them, “I have eagerly desired
to eat this Passover with you before I suffer….”
Then he took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks,
he broke it and gave it to them, saying,
“This is my body, which is given for you.
Do this in remembrance of me.”
And he did the same with the cup after supper saying,
“This cup that is poured out for you
is the new covenant in my Blood.”

As St. Paul, in his letter to the Hebrews 9:15, makes clear about Jesus’ mission:

He is mediator of a new covenant.

And:

Hebrews 8:13

In speaking of a new covenant,
He makes the first one obsolete.
And what is becoming obsolete and growing old
is ready to vanish away.

Indeed, 1 Peter 2:4-5 is explicit on who “the chosen race” are with whom Jesus has made a new covenant — they are those who believe in and follow Him:

Come to him, a living stone, rejected by human beings
but chosen and precious in the sight of God,
and, like living stones,
let yourselves be built into a spiritual house
to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices
acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Finally and definitively, Christ Himself is unambiguous about the identity of those with whom He has made a new covenant:

John 14:5-6, 9

Thomas said to him,
“Master, we do not know where you are going;
how can we know the way?”
Jesus said to him,
I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me….
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”

The new chosen people with whom God has made a new covenant is different from the old chosen people whose covenant is obsolete — dated, bygone, dead and gone.

The new chosen people are not a race or a particular ethnicity, but comprise people from all races who are not so much chosen as choose. Nor are the new chosen people special or superior; the “chosen people” is not a narcissistic, self-glorifying label. In Christ’s own words, they are “whoever believes in me,” “do the works that I do,” who love Him by keeping His commandments (John 14:12, 15), and who “deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23).

May the peace and love of Jesus Christ our Lord be with you,

~Eowyn

  2. Please read Romans 9 thru 11…I’ve never heard a sermon/homily from the pulpit on these chapters. God’s covenants with the Jewish people still stand and it says over and over in the words of the prophets that these covenants with the Jewish people are FOREVER…so, if Christians subscribe to Replacement Theology then they are making God out to be a liar…this is blasphemy. What part of the word ‘Forever’ don’t they understand?!

    • Blasphemy? You’re accusing Jesus Christ, the son of God — who said at the Last Supper that with His Body and Blood, He is making a “new covenant” — of blasphemy? You’re accusing the great St. Paul — who wrote in his letter to the Hebrews 8:13 that Christ, “In speaking of a new covenant, He makes the first one obsolete” — of blasphemy?

      You’ve got some nerve.

Then, you compound your error by insisting that the Old Testament’s covenant with Jews still stands — the same Jews, 90% of whom in the world are Revelation 2:9 & 3:9’s fake Jews, being not even the biological descendants of the Biblical Hebrews but are descendants of Balkan Khazarians, whose narcissistic self-worshiping Talmud (their real Scripture that supercedes even the Torah) maintains Jews are still God’s “chosen people” because they are a superior people, better than the Angels and almost an equal of God. That Talmud that claims the words of rabbis actually supercede God’s words. (See Michael Hoffman, Judaism’s Strange Gods.)

The same Jews whose Talmud calls Jesus Christ, the son of God, a “bastard”, “fool”, “conjurer” and “seducer”, and His mother, Mary, a “whore”. (See Rev. I.B. Pranaitis, The Talmud Unmasked: The Secret Rabbinical Teachings Concerning Christians)

What kind of boot-licking fool are you?

    • The people who claim to be “jews” today are not from the House of David, Tribe of Judah as Jesus was descended….they are from elsewhere, yet “enjoy” the benefits as though they were from the Tribe of Judah (even to the extent of being phonetically called “jews”)…they have “replaced” themselves with the rebellious Jews from the Apostles’ time and the Jews who followed Christ were called followers of Jesus (“Christians”); therefore, the tree of Christ has many branches.
“Covenant” also means “Testament” and also means “Promise”.
“In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring.” Romans 9:8….

The jews do not worship the same God as Christians. We, Christians, believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (The Holy Trinity) and Jesus as Lord and Savior. israel believes in the star (hexagram) of david, talmud, and their god is their equal. Their god is not the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and Moses, and David, culminating with Jesus as God presenting a New Testament to all who believe in Him, repent, and accept Him into their hearts.
The dispensationalists of today ignored 2,000 years of faith in the Lord and history, and sided with scofield, darby, zionists, and others. scofield was a crook, womanizer, adulterer, zionist, and liar who twisted words/verses in the bible to fit his and his zionist friend’s agendas for jews and received much financial “support” for doing so. The scofield “bible” helped create an understanding for israel as the “homeland” for the jews and it paved the way for “israel” to become a “homeland” through the Balfour Declaration…where the british govt “gave” Palestine (Israel) to the jews (essentially the Rothschild’s, who are satanists) to receive help during WW1 (every war is a banker’s war) against germany. Palestine was already occupied by Christians, muslims, and jews and through numerous “wars” and “anti-semitic” events that encouraged jews to return to the homeland, the population of jews in Palestine has substantially increased along with the land they have taken from Christ-loving people’s. They have destroyed Palestinian homes, killed people (even target practice on pregnant Palestinian women), raped them, imprisoned children, treat them like animals and they claim it’s because our God ordained the “land” to them and it is therefore their “right” to do as they please with their “land”.
The only people who benefit today from dispensationalism are jews and zionists (includes the bankers who exact high prices for their “services”)…everyone else suffers under them and unfortunately believes and idolizes the lies placed before them directed by jews and zionists. Even the US govt gives israel billions of usa dollars and writes the debt back to the american taxpayers. And in our own electoral process for POTUS, the candidates bow at the altar of israel to receive their “blessings” and our congressmen sign oaths to israel.
So, the “blasphemy” that is occurring is allowing the lie to continue that jews are God’s “chosen people” and Israel is their “land”. They are called “israeli’s”, not “Israelites” for a reason. To believe, jews, not Christians are God’s chosen people is blaspheming against the Lord.
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12.
and I’ll repeat this verse for it is so true:
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1Peter 2:9.

The tree of Christ has many branches.
The bible is exact in what it states:
“But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but tremble. For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.” Romans 11:20-21.
The “natural branches” were the Jews who followed Jesus, the first “Christians”, and as time progressed more branches were grafted onto the tree; and what we have today is the fellowship of Christians culminating into the tree of Christ, which includes the Jews who believe in Him. And those who refuse to believe are broken off.
Don’t let their lies cause you to be broken off by idolizing the lies instead of worshiping the Lord.

  3. Dr Eowyn . . . What a wonderful and sweet message. Frankly, it brought tears to my eyes . . . that my Savior loved me so much that he laid down his life to pay the price that justice required that my sins might be taken from me and the debt cancelled. This isn’t good, I am just on my way to church and find that I am in rather a “weepy state,” just thinking of this, the greatest gift of all.

Thank you for your time and energy in bringing such poignant lessons to me and to all of us.

  5. Beautiful and truthful devotional Dr. Eowyn….
The Chosen Ones are the ones who choose to follow Him and the Chosen Ones are under one name: Christians.
Jesus did not sacrifice himself to glorify the jews…He sacrificed himself so the world could glorify Him, and those who glorify Him will be saved.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
    Romans 10:9
