Facebook Gives Staff Green Light to Join May 1 Political Protests

From Bloomberg: Facebook Inc. said it won’t punish employees who take time off to join pro-immigrant protests on May 1. And, in a nod to security staff, janitors, shuttle-bus drivers and others who work for Facebook contractors on campus, the company also said it will investigate if any of its vendors illegally crack down on their employees’ protest rights.

“At Facebook, we’re committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where employees feel comfortable expressing their opinions and speaking up,” a spokesman wrote in an emailed statement. “We support our people in recognizing International Workers’ Day and other efforts to raise awareness for safe and equitable employment conditions.”

Facebook notified employees of its policy in a posting on an internal forum April 14. A spokesman said it applies regardless of whether workers notify the company ahead of time. The Menlo Park, California, company also said it would re-evaluate its ties to any vendor if it breaks the law that protects workers’ rights to organize and protect themselves.

“It’s important not just to the engineers and H-1B holders that are traditionally thought of as the immigrants in tech but also to folks who are subcontracted but work side-by-side on those campuses,” said Derecka Mehrens, co-founder of Silicon Valley Rising, a union-backed coalition. “Immigrants play a critical role in the tech sector — both as engineers and coders but also in keeping tech campuses running smoothly.”

Many tech companies have been vocal in their opposition to aspects of Trump’s agenda. Facebook has criticized Trump’s immigration moves. At a rally in January at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, CEO Sundar Pichai and co-founder Sergey Brin spoke against Trump’s executive order that closed U.S. borders to people from several majority-Muslim nations. Both companies, along with Apple Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Intel Corp., are among more than 120 firms that signed a February court filing opposing the travel ban.

  1. Facebook might as well give them a charge number to log the hours on their timecards, as much as Zuckerberg likes his progressivism.

    • More to the point Zuckerberg, in true Talmudic fashion, uses his monopoly Capitalist billions to promote Communism for the Goyim. European Spring festivals traditionally celebrated on May first have long given way to Communist celebration of International Workers (useful idiots) Day.

So, to paraphrase Aldous Huxley, the blatant contrary of free speech that characterizes Facebook isn’t the contrary of free speech after all, but free speech as it really is, which is the real freedom of keeping one’s job by slavish adherence to Leftist PC.

Where the heck does this notion that muslims have a right to be here come from any how. Oh yeah, from the illegals, political infiltrators, venal traitors, and just plain ignorant liberals, already here.

  6. Zuckerberg can take his ill gotten billions and stick it where the sun don’t shine. He scammed the FB idea and he has abused his power over the years including his land buying deal, with his new fence he built on Kauai.
This “support” he is giving his employees is more about the justification for bringing in cheap labor and gaining support for doing so.
Remember, he is great friends with BO, that tells me all I need to know about the guy.

  7. These days > Corporations = Communism. That’s all FB is pushing, plain & simple; & they are using (financial)-bullying tactics to force vendors to tow the line as well.

It must be H trying to run a small/medium business these days in a “cultural atmosphere” literally DICTATED by these corporate-communist-BULLIES.

Target & Penneys got their financial-butts kicked for acting the same way. FB needs to pay & pay big time because they are especially obnoxious.

It’s too bad so many people use FB in spite of its disgusting anti-American (& anti-nationalism) everywhere.

(I saw a tweet that FB closed 30,000 France accounts > the tweet said they were Le Pen supporters, but a quick Goog headlines scan says FB said they were Fake Accounts. Sure, Zioberg, whatever you say.)

In other “immigration” news, yesterday 4/18/17, Trump signed an EO calling for a review of the H1B jobs-robbing scam.

    On other subjects:
–Trump said veterans can now get medical care anywhere & do not have to rely solely on the VA.
–And Posobiec tweeted that Bannon says, “I’m not going anywhere.” LOL, so that settles that, I hope.
–And Media Matters succeeded in ousting Bill O’Reilly from Fox by “educating advertisers.”
–Roger Stone, in his twitter feed, “threatened” one of the MMFA saying he knew what they were up to, that he was watching them, & they better “watch their A**.” One reply reported him to twitter for a menacing-sounding tweet.

  8. May 1st (May Day) is commie day.

That is not a little insignificant in this context.

Except when those opinions are contrary to those of FaceBook/Zuckerberg and his wife and the liberal progressives they worship. That’s abundantly evident by the second part of the message — that vendors disagreeing will be dropped. Typical for the left. That “tolerance” thing is mighty one-sided.
