California public school cuts budget because of too many white students

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has a race-based funding policy: schools get more funds if their white student population is below 30%.

A perverse consequence of LAUSD’s race-based preferential funding policy is that if a school has a white student population of over 30%, then the school gets penalized with budget cuts.

How is this not racially discriminatory against whites?

John Gregory reports for ABC7, March 26, 2017, that the racial formula was a condition imposed by court decisions dealing with desegregation in the 1970s.

But outrage has grown at the highly-regarded Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, as the school faces layoffs and increased class sizes due to a law limiting funds for schools with a higher white student body.

In a letter to Walter Reed’s parents, LAUSD noted the school had been above the 30% white percentage for the past couple years.

In an attempt to lessen the budget cuts, the district changed the school’s spending formula to one based on the number of students. Still, several jobs will be lost and class sizes could grow.

Parent Sheila Edmiston said, “Thankfully we’re going to keep our librarian. We’re going to keep our nurse, but we may lose a few teachers, but not as many as we once thought.”

But for many parents, the race-based reason of “too many white students” has made the cuts more difficult to swallow because of what the the cuts might mean for their children. Rosemary Estrada said, “When your class sizes are getting larger and you’re taking resources away from students, I mean as parents, you do want your kid to go out to college.”

  4. freakin’ ridiculous!…..this is what happens when hate and ignorance are allowed to lead….I can’t imagine any school that has benefited from having fewer whites and more illegals/minorities…
this is flat out racial discrimination and definitely the way to go if you want to see public schools fall in white neighborhoods.
they are also conditioning white children to have ‘white guilt’ and to hate being white…truly evil.

  5. Talk about a RACIEST law!!!!! Maybe the answer to help the schools there would be for ALL of the white families in Californication to move to other more acceptable states.

  6. As a LAUSD retired chemistry/physics teacher, I can tell you the craziness
doesn’t stop with actions against whites. All emphasis is on raising the
standardized test scores by which schools and districts are rated and
judged. For example, since PE is obviously not one of subjects tested,
each PE class has hundreds of students milling around the athletic
yard doing nothing. Seniors are not given standardized tests so
senior-dominated classes like physics and senior English lit are
huge. My high school, typical of so-called “urban schools”, had
around 2000 ninth-graders and 400 seniors. By sleight of hand
accounting, the official drop out rate was 20%. Eventually some
of the LA Times hacks aka reporters figured something was
    amiss with the accounting.

  12. Unless one lives in a TRULY remarkable school district and/or has child/ren in one such school, I strongly believe an average intelligent student should know all s/he needs to become an autodidact by graduation from 8th grade.

After 8th grade they take a year to sort out their feelings; then ask if they’re ready for want to a vocational or an academic college, OR get into an apprenticeship w/a local trades. Most 16 yr olds have an intuitively good sense of their likes & dislikes, and they can always do as I did, turn their young hands to ANYTHING that comes along.

It’s all learning in the University of Life; it’s quite amazing what high utility ‘lowly’ tasks have for us later in life. I learned how to use pumice block to clean the grill after my shift as a Dairy Queen cook, and what made good deep frying conditions. Sweeping Ole Petersen’s cabinet shop had a wrong way [as I started to do] and a better way [which I learned in 5 minutes]. A Summer spent as kennelman at Doc Halliday’s Bellevue Veterinary taught me hugely about all manner of critters, even a coyote someone brought in! Everything is given to us to learn from, and these prolonged adolescents need to start ‘getting it’ ASAP.

    • As Mark Twain wrote and repeated many times, “I never let my education get in the way of my learning.” That’s as best I can recall, but close enough. College isn’t really useful for at least 70% of the populace in any country, and I’ve been a college/vocational school instructor.

    • A college degree has become a union card. Even today, with a college degree degraded by lowered standards and trashy PC curriculum, statistical data show that Americans with a college degree earn more than those without. So, wanting a good life for their children, parents still aim to send them to college.

  17. Culture and Education play an equal role in a child’s upbringing. Children’s public school education has been hijacked by marxist bureaucrats. The unnatural theory of collective equality is further enforced on youth being bombarded with p.c. propaganda from every segment of society. Western culture is under attack, and it’s time to fight back against the pollution of ungodly commies. Parents should bring a class action suit against any authority whose intent is to turn our communities into a cesspool of indifference.

    • The promoters of Marxism want everyone equal but for themselves (the very few who are trying to create a New World Order for them to tyrannize.) The would-be rulers would be as distant as possible in every way from those far beneath them. That is what absolute power does not matter the theory behind it.
