From Mercury News: Three California Democrats have a warning for contractors who sign up for President Donald Trump’s border-wall construction project between the U.S. and Mexico: Build it, and we will divest from your company.

In the latest act of resistance against the Trump administration, the state lawmakers have introduced a bill that would force the state to drop its pension investments in any companies involved in the project.

“This is a wall of shame and we don’t want any part of it,” Assemblyman Phil Ting, D-San Francisco, said in a statement. “Immigrant stories are the history of America and this is a nightmare.”

The announcement of the proposal came on Monday, three days after the U.S. Customs and Border Protection requested proposals for “border wall prototypes.

Assembly Bill 946 would require the California Public Employee Retirement System and the California State Teachers Retirement System — the two largest public pension funds in the nation, with investments of $312 billion and $202 billion, respectively — to liquidate investments in any company involved with the wall’s construction within a year. It would also require the pension-fund management to report a list of those companies to the Legislature.

Messages to state GOP lawmakers seeking comment were not returned Monday afternoon.

The proposal will be carried by Ting and Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, D-San Diego, and Eduardo Garcia, D-Coachella.

  1. Ca. Always posturing with not a pot to pee in or a window to toss it out of. All democrats and not an American name among them.
Isn’t there a name for states attacking companies to prevent them from making a living?

  3. Sum Ting Wong with these bullies and creeps. The San Diego area was totally porous and very dangerous with contraband and illegals flowing freely. Due mostly to the efforts of Duncan Hunter, the wall was built and the border is much safer and more manageable there. These Dem criminal conspirators should be indicted for aiding and abetting the invasion of our country.

  4. I think these idiots forget that most construction outfits are dominated by unions. The Iron Workers Union is one of the largest in the construction field and they had best think twice before boycotting anything.
They have some major repairs, i.e., the spillway, that needs construction workers and this foolishness will cost them dearly.
That’s over and above what Trump’s gonna do, cutting their funding.
They should be very careful of what they demand.
It’s apparent that “BE STUPID” are the only 2 words written in that state’s new constitution.

  5. Have been a resident of southern California for over 50 years. live overlooking the beach. the climate is great. most everything else
    sucks now.
California would be broke in months without the Feds printing money
out of thin air for it. California under Obamacare added SEVEN MILLION
more Medicaid “members.” It now has TWELVE MILLION people on
Medicaid, more than the population of many states.
Every other financial aspect of California government is similarly
bloated and deep in red ink. California is a parasite.

  6. their pension funds are underfunded and it would be a way of blaming their failure on the wall builders when the pension fails

  9. “Build Trump’s wall and we’ll divest from your company”….and there will be enough business from those who SUPPORT building The Wall to overshadow any down-side there may be from the Political Extortionists of Mexifornia.

  10. Yeah, I’m sure the construction companies are shaking in their work boots.

More likely they are laughing their butts off.

  11. Deranged Beyond Belief! Shooting themselves in the foot! Just how CROWDED do they want life to be? How DANGEROUS? How BROKE? Stupid is right. SMH.

I wonder if Prez Trump hears about all these stories? There are SO MANY. He should set up a Twitter SOLELY for “Incoming News” & let only bona fide bloggers contribute to it via headlines+links/tweets; & DISALLOW all the troll replies (like in his @realDonaldTrump feed > a legitimate supportive reply gets DROWNED OUT by hordes of nasty hateful tweets).

He would only need 3 “news hounds” working 8-hour shifts around the clock to read the “Incoming News” tweets/feed & associated articles & turn in a brief/summary at the end of their shift. Smart conscientious Pro-Trump high school kids could do it!

  13. OOOOHHHHH. I’m really scared now! Why there are ANY construction companies of ANY kind left in the state of CA, I’ll NEVER KNOW. Politics here has practically anhilated independent businessmen in the first place, and even large industries in the second place. Haven’t they heard? Everyone went to TEXAS….last person out….turn off the lights!!!!

If I heard this recent drivel from my elected reps….and I was in the “business,” my butt would be out the door & into Texas or the Dakotas…or Florida…where ever they treated me like a big boy or girl…..AND, appreciated my business in their state…..AND the tax money and jobs it provided them for their voter-base…amongst so many other things…..

  15. “If the bill passes, it will discourage California contractors from bidding on wall construction. That means a loss of hundreds of jobs – many of which would go to both immigrants and illegal aliens. Instead, those companies involved in successful bidding on the wall could bring in workers from other states.

It takes a special kind of idiot to become so slavishly devoted to a political agenda that a politician would harm his own constituents.

The legislation has a good chance of passing, considering the massive advantage in the state legislature by Democrats. What would be California’s loss could easily become another state’s gain as Golden State politicians look to punish their state because someone in Washington is finally trying to address the problem of massive illegal immigration.”

  16. You make me sick! I am one of the “deployable” citizens born and raised in this country. I’ve visited other countries and had to be in compliance with their laws. No free health care, no free dental. I had to order from the “tourist” menues of changed prices and paid for it. I bought a book to attempt to speak their languages. I had to settle for lower waiges on a military base due to their Nationals reserved the better paying full time positions. I had to study their book’s for a driver’s license and pass the exams. My car had to be perfect running and complete insurance. Any accidents there paid for everything including the grass! I watched my mother who knew nothing but factory work as a sewing machine operator 40 years be sent off to the Mexican workers. But expect her at older age retrain? I for one would buy the first brick! It’s not hating the Hispanics…It’s the double standard rules. I don’t owe them squat. I don’t like other countries hauling their cultures and trying to shove them down our necks! What a disgrace to all who served to protect this. I don’t want to change English because there’s sooo many immigrants. If their cultures are so much better why have they come? I vote that any place sheltering should receive the rest. Or let Mexico buy California to pay for the wall 😀
