Liberal Insanity: Milk is now racist

Samantha Diaz is a staff writer of 49er, a newspaper of California State University, Long Beach, which it claims to have “won local, regional and national awards for reporting, photography, design and multimedia.”

In a March 13, 2017 op/ed for 49er, Diaz writes that the federal government’s dietary recommendation for drinking milk is racist because black people are lactose intolerant. She also claims that “neo-Nazi white supremacists” use milk as a racist tool against anti-Trumpers.

Here is Diaz’s op/ed, “Milk new symbol of hate?“:

When you think of milk, what first comes to your mind? If you’re a millennial, you probably think of strong bones, Got Milk? commercials, or maybe eating your favorite cereal while watching cartoons on a Saturday morning.

What about racism? White nationalism? If you’re having trouble finding the connection between these institutions and milk, you’re not alone. You, along with the rest of the nation, have been so accustomed to hearing the benefits of milk that you probably didn’t even realize the subtle racism hidden in our health facts.

It may not surprise you that the United States was founded on racism. That every institution we uphold has racist roots that are sometimes difficult to catch and even harder to fight against. This phenomenon affects our voter ID laws, state testing and,  yes, even our federal dietary guidelines. But how can our health guidelines, a system meant to be built upon scientific fact alone, have racist messages? Where there is a deep-rooted tradition to suppress an entire race’s existence, there’s a way.

The federal endorsement of milk in American diets contributes to the problem by uncritically pushing people to drink milk, despite the potential detriment it has on non-white people’s health.

Our current federal dietary guidelines urge people to drink three cups of milk a day, according to the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The main health benefit of milk is to guard against osteoporosis, a disease that weakens your bones — hence the “stronger bones” rhetoric. While this is a very practical health benefit, osteoporosis affects Africans at a significantly lower rate than it does most Americans, according to an article on Mother Jones.

These facts about milk were brought to attention by a scientific magazine that got trickled down into the world of 4chan, where the facts were distorted and exaggerated to fit a racist rhetoric for white supremacy. The online trollers decided to take their milk jugs to the public using Shia LaBeouf’s social experiment livestream project, “He Will Not Divide Us,” which began as a protest against President Donald Trump. The installation has since been shut down by the host, The Museum of Moving Images, for being being “a serious and ongoing public safety hazard,” according to a February article by USA Today.

This is the basis that white supremacist milk chuggers used for their bring-your-own-milk-jug party using Shia LaBeouf’s camera to advance their hateful message. In an effort to prove their masculinity, a dozen middle-aged white men showed up shirtless, shouting about how they need to “secure the future of our diet and the future for milk drinking.” One man proudly displayed his neo-Nazi tattoo while spitting milk into the livestream camera.

This odd form of white supremacy also received cinematic attention through Jordan Peele’s horror movie “Get Out,” a movie that highlights racism in a post-racial America. Peele artistically addresses the new medium of hate with one of the film’s most eerie scenes, which shows a white woman meticulously sipping milk from a bendy straw. The scene would have gone unnoticed in the movie, but audiences were forced to notice the long, drawn-out frame of the woman taking a sip; Peele wanted people to notice.

These seemingly coincidental acts of racism are backed by the way milk continues to be represented in American diets.

The Mother Jones article states that not only is milk non-beneficial to Africans, but following the guidelines may actually be detrimental to their health. There is a strong correlation to calcium consumption and an increased risk of prostate cancer, unproportionally [sic] affecting African men. Furthermore, both black children and adults generally secrete less calcium on a daily basis than white people, making them less dependent upon milk.

Remember that this is the dietary guidelines for Americans. I want to emphasize that last word. These guidelines are for Americans. This means they should reflect the health needs of the ethnicities that make up America which, news flash, isn’t just white people. And since the African American community in the U.S. is continuously rising, it seems only logical to acknowledge that while something may be beneficial for one group of people, that may not be the case for another.

These differences are now leaving the world of health and spilling into our political and social lives. Milk has now become a symbol of racial superiority for white nationalists and neo-Nazis, claiming that their ability to process milk makes them racially superior. . . .

The milk scene in “Get Out,” along with LaBeouf’s livestream, turned what started out as internet trolling into yet another form of nonsensical white superiority. And while there is little logic to the train of thoughts involved in choosing the next inanimate face of racism, our country’s health guidelines certainly take part of the blame for this one.

Until we recognize the racist roots in our own systems of government and fight to remove them, we are all in part responsible for the white, creamy form of racism currently taking hold in our country.

Note that Diaz provides no source or evidence for her accusation that “white nationalists and neo-Nazis” claim racial superiority because their bodies can process lactose — the disaccharide sugar in milk that accounts for lactose intolerance in blacks.

      • Exactly Mom, raw milk is the answer to helping our immune system. Since there are only a handful of states which can legally sell raw milk, we as citizens have to continue to state the benefits of raw milk to our legislators and push for changing the laws.

Maybe there needs to be research on the effect of lactose intolerance on those who are of mixed races. As far as Africans go, they have complete freedom to do their own research so they can come to their own conclusions as to whether they should drink any sources of dairy. They have complete freedom to discuss their thoughts and pose questions to their doctor. This situation is no different from our government hiding, withholding, and lying to all citizens about a myriad of issues, regardless of race.

IMHO I’m am sick of liberal twits making everything related to distant history of religious and social mores, and regional and national customs into a platform to make a charge of “racism”. Diaz is of the same mental illness affecting those females who ally with muslim extremists and are too ignorant of history to realize their “fantasy” will eventually get them killed.

Funny how we are all told the raw milk is dangerous, but the old lizard queen of UK drinks her own raw milk every day. Camel milk does amazing things, but for the price has to be looked at as medicine.

He wrote a small poetry book, “On The Road To Damascus.” I’m not much into poetry; however, out of being polite, I did read the book. On sentence blew me away. This IS the exact quote: “AFRICAN AMERICANS hate themselves for being born Black. They project the hate towards white people.

He stated that races should never intermingle. They should stay within their own race.

  8. The Left here has two choices:

    (1) Embrace adding the caveat “Milk may not be suitable for Blacks” to dietary recommendations, which would be scientifically accurate, or
    (2) Demonize Whites for drinking milk.

The first choice requires them to admit that there are real differences between the races. The second choice merely harms Whites on a national scale.

For a leftist, there’s really no question, is there?

Considering the milk bought from stores these day has had all the good boiled out of and no telling the additives added to it for flavor enhancement and what ever, one might as well be drinking soda pop any how. I believe I have even read that lactose intolerance was really rare before pasteurization became the law.

They claim it is pasteurized for heath reasons, but all it really does it give it longer shelf life for the benefit of the milk industry. That is why they have to enrich it with one vitamin or another, trying to make up for the good they boil out of it.

These people are really going retard over this racist nonsense.

I posted a similar comment on ‘wnd’ over the same story, but it was moderated and deleted; I suppose cause of using the word retard.

I admire that Farrah, Kupelian, etc., were trailblazers in alternative media. However, today they’re just dinosaurs. That they still charge $$$ for stuff that we can get for free on sites like this (thank you so much, proprietors!) has become a little insulting to me.

Former WND columnist Vox Day pumps out article after article, all day long, on multiple websites, for free, and he gets something like 2.5M pageviews per month. • Kevin, you may be correct about your use of “retard” being the reason your post was deleted. I’m not here to correct you in any way, but thought I could use this situation to provide everyone with a bit of history on how the word “retard” is related to humans and why its use came into disfavor. “Retarded” was in use by professionals for many decades. It was used as a legitimate classification. In the early 70’s, class action suits were brought forward by professionals and family members to remove the intellectually challenged from psychiatric hospitals where they were being warehoused without receiving services for their challenges. And, since then services and attention to their human rights have improved dramatically. Calling someone “retard” or “retarded” has been deemed “unkind” and “cruel” in reference to those who have “intellectual challenges” which is now in favor by the Human Services nomenclature police. I worked with those who have intellectual challenges for many years, even when “retarded” was still accepted terminology. There are those who have these challenges who have low cognitive functioning and wouldn’t understand the word “retarded” as it relates to them. But, there are many higher cognitive functioning individuals who do understand what “retarded” means and it hurts their feelings when someone calls them that. In 10 or 20 years, “intellectually challenged” may fall from favor and a new label will be selected. Or, maybe it will last longer because it’s a bit harder for young children to say “intellectually challenged” than “retard” when they want to be mean. “Retarded” has many uses, just not in reference as it applies to humans anymore.

I understand that perfectly, but then i do feel there are times when a sincere insult is appropriate. That is only one example though. The same day I had another comment moderated and deleted for what I have to assume was the word ashkenazi. Clearly, they already know what one means to infer with that word even though it is a legitimate factual opinion.

Obviously they do have certain words that trigger moderation, not for profanity, but out of concern of the opinions one may wish to express, and they don’t want heard.

  17. I thought at first this was “fake news” written to spoof the way liberal snowflakes think. My bad! A few thoughts on the subject:
    1. Most adults are lactose intolerant. Not only blacks, but whites, too. People naturally lose the ability to digest lactose about the age one would expect a person to be weaned. Some cultures, because of dependence upon milk from farmed animals as a main food source, “naturally” became lactose tolerant for a longer time. This “persistence” of the ability came about through advantageous gene mutations among farmers in Europe, AFRICA, India, and Arab populations over long periods of time. So Americans of any race may be lactose intolerant. It’s not “racist” to ignore lactose intolerance in the guidelines. Are we now supposed to create a new category to protect the “lactose intolerant” from discrimination by microaggression?
    2. Stores sell lactose-free milk. Duh! Buy it and save your bones. If you’re afraid of prostate cancer, then don’t buy it or drink it. Osteoporosis affects females more than males. Is the government being sexist, dissing males, by promoting milk for to prevent a condition that mostly helps women?
    3. Yes, milk is white, but you can make it brown if you want. NesQuik! It’s delicious.
    4. Will milk go the way of the peanut? Because a small number of people can’t eat peanuts, now all children must suffer by not being allowed to eat peanuts. btw, peanut butter was once promoted to help children thrive; it saves lives in Africa to this day.
    5. Do we have to fear being milk shamed, now? Don’t drink milk in public lest someone assume you intend to make a racist statement! The onus is on YOU. The perception, no matter how insane, IS the reality and you ARE guilty of racism if you drink milk in sight of any lactose-intolerant individual.

  19. “Got milk? Many people couldn’t care less because they can’t digest it. A new Cornell University study finds that it is primarily people whose ancestors came from places where dairy herds could be raised safely and economically, such as in Europe, who have developed the ability to digest milk.

“The implication is that harsh climates and dangerous diseases negatively impact dairy herding and geographically restrict the availability of milk, and that humans have physiologically adapted to that,” said evolutionary biologist Paul Sherman, a professor of neurobiology and behavior at Cornell. “This is a spectacular case of how cultural evolution — in this case, the domestication of cattle — has guided our biological evolution.”On the other hand, most adults whose ancestors lived in very hot or very cold climates that couldn’t support dairy herding or in places where deadly diseases of cattle were present before 1900, such as in Africa and many parts of Asia, do not have the ability to digest milk after infancy.

Although all mammalian infants drink their mothers’ milk, humans are the only mammals that drink milk as adults. But most people — about 60 percent and primarily those of Asian and African descent — stop producing lactase, the enzyme required to digest milk, as they mature. People of northern European descent, however, tend to retain the ability to produce the enzyme and drink milk throughout life.

Sherman and former Cornell undergraduate student Gabrielle Bloom ’03, now a graduate student at the University of Chicago, compiled data on lactose intolerance (the inability to digest dairy products) from 270 indigenous African and Eurasian populations in 39 countries, from southern Africa to northern Greenland. Their findings will be published in a forthcoming issue of Evolution and Human Behavior.

On average, Sherman and Bloom found that 61 percent of people studied were lactose intolerant, with a range of 2 percent in Denmark and 100 percent in Zambia. They also found that lactose intolerance decreases with increasing latitude and increases with rising temperature, and especially with the difficulty in maintaining dairy herds safely and economically.

A major challenge in interpreting the data, Sherman noted, was to resolve the puzzle that about 13 lactose-tolerant populations live side-by-side with lactose-intolerant populations in some parts of Africa and the Middle East.

“The most likely explanation is nomadism,” Sherman concluded. All 13 of the populations that can digest dairy yet live in areas that are primarily lactose intolerant were historically migratory groups that moved seasonally, Sherman said. Their nomadism enabled them to find suitable forage for their cattle and to avoid extreme temperatures. “Also, the fact that these groups maintained small herds and kept them moving probably reduced the pathogen transmission rate.”

According to the National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse, some 30 million to 50 million Americans are lactose intolerant, including up to 75 percent of African Americans and American Indians and 90 percent of Asian Americans. Common symptoms include nausea, cramps, bloating, gas and diarrhea that begin about 30 minutes to two hours after eating or drinking foods containing the milk sugar lactose. The use of lactase enzyme tablets or drops or lactose-reduced milk and similar products can help the lactose intolerant digest dairy products.

Sherman’s study concludes that adults from Europe can drink milk because their ancestors lived where dairying flourished and passed on gene mutations that maintain lactase into adulthood. The research, he said, is an example of Darwinian medicine, a new interdisciplinary field of science that takes an evolutionary look at health, and considers why, rather than how, certain conditions or symptoms develop. Sherman, for example, recently investigated why spices are used and why morning sickness occurs.

“Both appear to serve an important function to protect the individual,” Sherman said. “Spices contain antimicrobial compounds, and they may be used to destroy food-borne pathogens, especially in hot climates. Nausea and vomiting early in pregnancy also may protect women and their embryos from food-borne pathogens and other toxins.”

A Darwinian medicinal view complements traditional medicine, Sherman said, because if researchers can better understand why a symptom occurs, such as a fever, runny nose or allergy, they can better evaluate whether it is best to eliminate or tolerate it.”

    • Wait a minute. Sherman et al admit there’s a major problem interpreting the data. I’d agree with that.

First, he dishonestly equates commonplace adaptation (misnamed microevolution) within a species–the obviously necessary, built-in, and mostly two-way genetic flexibility accommodating different environmental conditions–with full-blown Darwinian evolution, which is the mechanism supposedly producing entirely new species. This implies, if Darwinian evolution is operative, that humanity is diverging into two separate species, more or less African and European, because, in this case, the lactase enzyme allowing digestion of lactose is not genetically turning off in most whites as it does in most blacks after weaning from mothers’ milk, allowing most whites to continue eating dairy products into adulthood while making most blacks (and Asians) incapable of doing so. As evidence for Darwinian evolution this is about as flimsy as it gets. But of course since that is the only mechanism allowed to explain adaptive genetic switching mechanisms, his Darwinian assertion is true only by virtue of another sort of readily observed adaptation, which is the ability of a non-scientific (i.e., non-falsifiable) theory like Darwinian evolution to absorb all evidence, however flimsy or contradictory, as proof of its validity because it is assumed to be true by definition.

Second, what evidence is being offered that the climatic conditions in the vast pastures of Africa are “harsher” than those in, say, Scandinavia? If I read that stuff correctly, isn’t Sherman claiming Africans didn’t develop lactose tolerance into adulthood because they couldn’t raise cows and sheep in that supposedly harsher climate when it might be argued with equal force that the cause and effect is the other way around, that Africans didn’t raise them in the first place because they couldn’t eat dairy products after the age of three or four?

Anyway, since the lactase mechanism is so well understood, what purpose does any of this serve other than forcing simple population studies and statistics into the Darwinian mold for the purpose of falsely claiming in advance that any medical advances in this area arose as a result of a Darwinian heuristic?

The myth of increased lactose intolerance in African-Americans. – NCBI

    Abstract –

In the United States, approximately three fourths of African-Americans have the potential for symptoms of lactose intolerance because lactose digestion depends on the presence of the enzyme lactase-phlorizin hydrolase which is reduced by up to 90-95% in individuals with lactase nonpersistence. The ‘African-American diet’ is more likely to be low in a variety of vitamins and minerals, including calcium. African-Americans consume low amounts of dairy foods and do not meet recommended intakes of a variety of vitamins and minerals, including calcium. Low intake of calcium and other nutrients put African-Americans at an increased risk for chronic diseases. The 2005 Dietary Guidelines recommend consuming three servings of dairy foods per day to ensure adequate calcium intake, among other nutrients, and the National Medical Association has recently published a similar recommendation of three to four servings of dairy per day for the African-American population. Research has shown that lactose maldigesters, including African-American maldigesters, can consume at least one cup (8 oz) of milk without experiencing symptoms, and that tolerance can be improved by consuming the milk with a meal, choosing yogurt or hard cheeses, or using products that aid in the digestion of lactose such as lactase supplements or lactose-reduced milks.

Africa is the cradle of life for not just humans, but in THIS CASE….for the art of diary farming and cattle herding. These innovators from Africa introduced the art to the REST of the world.
