$21.8 million in ObamaCare tax credits awarded to individuals who were not eligible to receive them

From Fox News: The Affordable Care Act exchanges awarded $21.8 million in advance premium tax credits to individuals who were not eligible to receive them, according to an audit from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration.

Advance premium tax credits are awarded to those with low to moderate income to help rein in the cost of purchasing health care insurance on the exchanges.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is responsible for overseeing the Obamacare exchanges which should ensure that an individual who applies for the tax credit has his identity verified and that the individual is eligible to receive the payment.

Individuals are asked a number of questions regarding their personal information such as their address, telephone number, date of birth, and out-of-wallet questions to determine their identity. After this process, individuals can submit an application to see if they are eligible to receive benefits.

The audit found that the exchanges did not successfully verify the identity of 35,276 individuals, and these individuals received $112 million in advance premium tax credits. The report notes that the majority of these applications—99 percent—had no verification process performed on them, and 251 failed identity verification.

  1. Then the IRS should go after the already identified 35,276 individuals and get back the $112 million.

    • I certainly agree with that, attach their bank accounts, attach their pension funds, attached their homes if they have one.

Now we need to address the employees who are responsible for doling out these funds. It would seem that we have far too many federal employees who are not able to function in their various positions, and we see vast amounts of OUR MONEY being given to individuals who do not rightfully qualify for it. I firmly believe that during the eight years Obummer was in the Presidency, there was little oversight . . . because he did not care how much monies were added to the already staggering national debt. Employees need to be signed off on “their understanding of the full parameters of their job functions.” If it is found that instances come up where they did not do their job in its entirely, then they should be put on ‘Probation” and the next time they erred in allocating funds that were not justified–then they should be given a pink slip and let go. Far too many federal employees are marginal people, and they just hang on, regardless of whether they can perform their job to its fullest. This is nothing short of being shameful.

      • Sounds to me like we have some federal employees who may be ‘on the take’ and in cohoots to make a few extra dollars. I’ve witnessed a number of federal employees over the years who make me wonder how they find their way out of a paper bag, much less how they were hired. But when it comes to thievery, some obviously can figure that out.

This is a perfect example for why a very small and limited government is so desirable. The larger the carcass, the greater the number of circling vultures. Of the 19,000 who didn’t file 2014 tax returns, according to page 46 of the treasury report, as of Nov. 1, 2016, those 19,000 had still not filed a 2014 return. So who is responsible, (IF ANYONE) to get that money back?? Hmm? I’ll bet no one.

Meanwhile, I’m paying well over $800 per month for shytty coverage that I don’t want because I can’t purchase strictly catastrophic coverage in NY. It isn’t sold here. Home of the fee; land of the slave.
But of course, the “Supremes” told us it’s a tax, not a contractual arrangement. So, just as we no longer are free to choose with whom we will associate, we are also not free to choose with whom we will do business, nor are we free to choose with whom we will enter into contract, or even WHETHER to enter into contract. Because you see, it isn’t a contract at all, it’s a “tax”.

I can’t decide who I despise more, the “Supremes”, the politicos, or the vast army of ‘enforcers’ called federal and state employees.

        • stlonginus . . . What an excellent contribution you have made to this discussion, I could not agree more with what you have written. I am particularly taken with your last sentence, “I can’t decide who I despise more, the “Supremes”, the politicos, or the vast army of ‘enforcers’ called federal and state employees. That really says it all!

    • Only problem is, the IRS would spend $224 million to go after them.

  2. What is the one thing which is required in all this, without exception?
A Social Security Number….I will keep that here for the moment. Now let’s say someone decides to use yours…..

At this point I do not ‘put trust’ even in what they ‘identified’….LOL!

This ‘insurance scam’ just keeps getting worse, down the rabbit hole of problems….

  3. But guys, we had to pass it to find out what was in it. I know what was in it, and I would be glad to tell, but I don’t use language that foul!

    • Maryaha . . . I remember well hearing that Old Rag, Pelosi, saying we had to pass it to find out what was in it. Did she and the Washington gang ever put something over on us! If we could only get term limits we could get rid of all those self interested beings who saddled us with this law. I am sure that any new legislation will be hated by those who are able to pick the pockets of the wealthy, and middle class from whom funds are transferred to pay for their health care. Part of what Obummer wanted was class warfare, and this setup assures that. Many of those who get subsidies (not all) but many have never been to interested in working a job and paying their own way, they have a “gimme, gimme” mentality, so the Democrats gave to them at the expense of others. Many who pay the highest for their own health care are people who are extremely responsible, have always worked long, tedious hours to take care of themselves . . . and now they have to have the millstone of others around their necks in the guise of paying for their health care. A pox on all of the Democrats who brought us this ill fated venture!

  5. DAH! Another Obama promise broken…..worse yet—NEVER EVER intended to be prevented from the inception of this idiotic, sophmoric, UN-READ (by its OWN legislators), untenable/unsustainable “health care reform” law…..which any IDIOT could see from its inception was NOT health care reform…but HEALTH INURANCE REFORM….meant to run the health care agencies into the ground so that a one-payer system could be instituted under either Obama or “Queen Hillary,” whichever came first. “Oh what webs we do weave when first we practice to deceive……..” Didn’t work out that way!!! Thank God……

  6. It’s only money! Money makes everyone equal! Money makes diversity possible! Once they run out of greenbacks, they’ll just print more. If you don’t think money can’t buy love you don’t know the Democrat party very well. It not only buys love, it purchases blind, unthinking, to the death loyalty! It’s better than paying for hookers!

  7. Waiting for Trump to REPEAL IT ENTIRELY the way he ‘said’ he would. Repeal it. Don’t substitute it! It’s communism. This is how communists get their hooks into people, they force death care on them. They regulate us all to death!
