Sunday Devotional: A psalm of thanksgiving

John 8:12

I am the light of the world, says the Lord;
whoever follows me will have the light of life.

Psalm 100

A psalm of thanksgiving.

Shout joyfully to the Lord, all you lands;
serve the Lord, with gladness;
come before Him with joyful song.
Know that the Lord, is God,
He made us, we belong to Him,
we are His people, the flock He shepherds.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving,
His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name;
good indeed is the Lord,
His mercy endures forever,
His faithfulness lasts through every generation.

On this Sunday morning, please join me in thanking God for everything He’s given us, individually and as a nation.

I thank God for intervening and helping us in the 2016 election because, simply and bluntly put, a Hillary presidency would continue the 8 years of Obama’s destruction and so put America on the road of no return.

What about you? Please share with us just one thing for which you are thankful to God.

And may the peace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!

  4. I am in full agreement . . . indeed our nation was saved from what would have no doubt been a dreadful sentence of four years of Killary. The Heaven’s really opened and poured out great blessings the day of the election.

    Dr Eowyn . . . thank you for such a timely spiritual message.

  5. I’m thankful for our good God who led us to a good, Biblical, healthy church and there surrounded us with lots of amazing families with whom we have become very close. Fellowship is so good!

  6. It would be really hard for me to list ONE thing that I am thankful to God for; there are so many! On a large-scale, I am extremely grateful for the reprieve we got with the election of Mr. Trump. There would have been no chance left to restore the country otherwise. May He also grant us the wisdom and energy to USE this reprieve wisely in spreading a better understanding of the principles this country was founded on. Except for the lunatic far-left fringe, there are plenty of folk who think they are left-leaning simply because they don’t see how being a Constitutional conservative actually supports their issues. Plus plenty who think they are conservatives but who do not understand those principles, making themselves sitting ducks for the next sweet-talking pol who says things that sound good – they have no firm guide to evaluate those words against.

    Here’s another vile attack on the Catholic Church!

    Just two weeks ago, the movie called The Little Hours had its world premiere at the Sun Dance Film Festival.

    It features the vulgar lives and impure sins of emotionally unstable Catholic nuns, and also shows a troupe of three nuns who say more expletives than “Hail Marys.”

    Sign the petition asking Gunpowder & Sky distributors to pull the film.

    But there’s more.

    The film The Little Hours is heavy on vulgarity. Staged in a medieval Italian convent, it portrays nuns in chaos, and who are grossly impure.

    READ WITH CAUTION! THIS IS QUITE DISTURBING!

    According to reviews, the Gunpowder & Sky film contains:
    a troupe of 3 nuns who “drop more expletives than Hail Marys”;

    scenes of nuns “getting drunk off of sacramental wine” and abusing the Sacramental of Confession

    a violent “party-girl” nun who used foul language and violence and assaults a handyman

    an alcoholic and impure priest who sins with the Mother Superior

    Sign the petition to pull the film

    This is an unwarranted attack on the Catholic Church!

    And Gunpowder & Sky is wrong to spread a movie that mock souls consecrated to God.

    That is why I ask you to sign our petition, urging the studio to remove this offensive film.

    Many new movies portray all sorts of perversion and apostasy. But hardly a glimpse of virtue or fidelity.

    We have seen it in The Last Temptation of Christ…we see it in the movie Silence.

    We’re seeing it once again with the movie The Little Hours. We cannot remain silent in face of these attacks on the Catholic faith!

    So please sign the petition, and pass the word on to your friends.

    Thank you, and keep up the good fight!

    I remain,

    Sincerely,

  8. just 1 thing?
    wow, that’s a hard one Dr. Eowyn….
    I would say I’m thankful for Life…. from Life lies the opportunity to experience true love through Him and live forever in Heaven with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit:
    “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
    and
    “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14

    with resurrected Life we have been redeemed by His blood and made dead to sin:
    “If a man dies, shall he live again?” Job 14:14
    “Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” Romans 6:8-11

    through Life we see God’s handiwork and are constantly reminded of His glory:
    “This is what God the Lord says – the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it.” Isaiah 42:5

    I live my life in weakness so that He will be my strength:
    “The LORD is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked advance against me to devour me,it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall.Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear;though war break out against me,even then I will be confident.” Psalm 27: 1-3

    because of Life, we are given His salvation by grace, mercy, and righteousness through faith:
    “For if by one man’s offense death reigned by one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by One, Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:17

    because of Life, we are given the choice to repent and follow Him or be damned by death eternal:
    “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

    my life is His:
    “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.” John 12:24-25

    my Thanksgiving to the Lord for His ultimate sacrifice for all and Life eternal for those who choose to repent and follow Him.

  9. I’d have answered much sooner, but making turkey soup for dinner kept me from my keyboard. As best I can prioritise, I’m grateful for the grace of

    Eo’s creation & maintenance of a sensible blog which has kept my blood pressure under 190 [NOT a joke];
    all of my friends present to me in the flesh, and all of FOTM’s devoted followers, and the wonderful people I’ve met in nearly 74 years in the Creation; and
    that my oldest daughter at 46 has 3 healthy children, my only grandchildren, of 8 & twins, 6; and
    that my Meeting for Worship accepted me 16 years ago and tolerates my radical conservatism & less-than-perfect Quaker ethics as a supporter of armed self-defense and the 2nd Amendment, because I read Blackstone’s Commentaries [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commentaries_on_the_Laws_of_England] in my last year of HS & again in college, where it is defined as an auxiliary & thus extension of our natural right of self-defense; and finally
    for the fact that it looks as if Canada will still be a predominantly Christian nation until I depart. God help us afterward, as our leaders are too often libtards instead of real Progressive Conservatives as before Harper back-stabbed them.

    • Hang in there, and NEVER give up. I took a hollowpoint in my R leg at age 25 which took out my femur but thank God missed my femoral artery, as I’d have died in 3 minutes or less; had a coronary at 32, melenoma cut out of my L shoulder four years later; survived 2 drownings, 3 car crashes asleep at the wheel [the RCMP said no one should have survived the last one in my 6 months old Audi in 1986; too many others to entirely recall.

      We NEVER know when God’s finished with us, and then it’s time to go Home.
