Maine gas distributor won’t deliver to Trump voters

Elections are bitterly fought contests. But in a democratic system such as the United States, what enables us to function despite our political differences is this:

The U.S. political system operates on the principle of DUE PROCESS — established rules, procedures, and conventions that are honored and observed by all, including and especially the political party and their adherents who lost in elections.

It is this observance of Due Process that enables us to function as a country via the ballot, not the bullet.

But in the 2016 presidential election, the losing side refuses to observe Due Process, but instead are resorting to extra-procedural methods to subvert the election, including:

Now, amidst an Arctic freeze, a gas distributor in MaineTurner LP Gas Service on Canaan Rd, Skowhegan, ME 04976 — is refusing to deliver gas to anyone who had voted for Trump.

Michael Shepherd reports for the Bangor Daily News, Dec. 16, 2016, that Michael Turner, owner of Turner LP Gas Service in Skowhegan, declares his refusal in a voicemail:

“Thank you for calling Turner LP Gas. If you voted for Donald Trump for president, I will no longer be delivering your gas — please find someone else.”

You can hear Bangor Daily News‘ recording of Turner’s voicemail message for yourself here.

In so doing, Turner is willing to alienate more than half of his community:

  • Trump won Somerset County, Maine — in which Skowhegan is located — by a huge margin of 57.73% to Hillary Clinton’s 35%.
  • In Skowhegan specifically, Trump’s margin of victory was smaller but he still won 50% of the vote to Hillary’s 40%.

Reached on Friday night (Dec. 16) by Bangor Daily News, Turner said he recorded the message on Election Day, Nov. 8, and downplayed his voicemail as “just a statement.” At the same time, Turner called Trump “despicable” and “the Antichrist” who —

“is surrounding himself with white supremacists, racists, and now he’s got a bunch of generals going into his cabinet. I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulled a Fidel Castro: Declare martial law and take over.”

Although Turner told Bangor Daily News that “I wouldn’t cut anyone off that was freezing,” a customer, Jason W., wrote on Turner LP Gas’ Yelp page that Turner refused him gas:

“The President [of Turner LP Gas Service] called to tell us he won’t deliver us a gas A needed energy source for this time of year bc we voted for Trump. My gas is running low and can’t find anyone in the area to deliver. My kids and I will be getting cold and need gas. I can’t believe this guy would put his political beliefs before his duty as a business to serve the people. Moral character for this guy is at an all time low. Boycott his business!”

For this business to refuse — or threatening to refuse — to deliver gas to Trump supporters in the Arctic freeze that’s enveloped much of the U.S., including the state of Maine, is unconscionable. Even in normal winters, average temperatures in Skowhegan are below freezing, with an average high of 31º in December, 26º in January, and 30º in February. many Mainers, especially the state’s senior citizens, rely on fuel deliveries to survive Maine’s harsh winter. Turner’s refusal to deliver gas to Trump supporters can become a matter of life or death if they can’t find another gas supplier.

Bangor Daily News points out that “Turner’s move is legal” because the Maine Human Rights Act bans discrimination in public accommodations on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, religion, ancestry or national origin, but not for political beliefs or affiliation.

That being said, Turner’s refusal to deliver gas to Trump supporters cannot be justified by his business being privately-owned and, therefore, supposedly has the right to deny services to whomever it pleases, because the Left put an end to that right by persecuting, prosecuting and convicting Christian-owned bakeries for refusing to bake cakes for homosexual weddings.

After Bangor Daily News reported on Turner’s refusal on Dec. 16, Turner said he’d already received 50 voicemails, most of which were from angry Trump supporters, although one of four were supportive. He said he’s not fearful for his business because he’s retiring soon, and he’s mulling becoming more politically active.

After speaking to Bangor Daily News, Turner has gone silent. Polizette said he “did not immediately return calls” on Dec. 16, nor was able to reach Turner LP Gas on Dec. 18. Before I published this post, I called Turner LP Gas Service’s phone number (207) 474-7556, but received no answer.

I searched that phone number on Spokeo and got these results, including a physical address on Canaan Road:

Michael A. Turner, Age 61
P. O. Box 1018
Skowhagen, ME 04976

It appears Michael Turner now has second thoughts and is weaseling out.

Turner LP Gas Service’s listing on Yelp (yp) has three pro-Trump pictures on its Gallery: #TrumpIsPotus, Trump Is My President, TRUMP Make America Great Again. Turner LP Gas’ listing on manta, the online small business directory, has its website as

Another consumer of “fake news” having a tantrum. The only cure; he must get rid of his t.v. and learn to use the internet sources for truth. And that don’t mean the main stream media sites.

  3. Excellent Post!
Incredibly, “Bangor Daily News points out that “Turner’s move is legal” because the Maine Human Rights Act bans discrimination in public accommodations on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, religion, ancestry or national origin, but not for political beliefs or affiliation.”
So a Lesbian couple can sue a bakery that refuses to bake them a cake, but it “legal” for a necessary “Public Utility Service” to refuse a service NECESSARY FOR SURVIVAL because you didn’t vote the way they wanted?
What about the legal principle of “Damages”?
And this BOZO is a “Democrat”?
The Lesbian couple’s slight embarrassment because someone refuses to celebrate their perversion is more “Legally” important than some children freezing to death?!?
What the HELL has happened to our “Legal” System?
What the HELL has happened to this guy’s humanity?
Self-answering questions. Our “Legal System” and our Politics has gone straight to HELL under 8 years of Obama and Lib/Prog gubbermint.
I don’t think even the most curmudgeonly Yankee would have pulled that stunt 8 years ago.
How low have the mighty fallen? Politiks uber alles! … again.

    • I saw a story that Americans bought 17,850 TONS of foreign made ammunition last year. On top of Domestic Production and the “Remanufacturers” that do professional reloads in military and LEO brass.

If LibTARDs ask why, point out this story!

    • I certainly hope that this lamo has had a change of heart . . . it is unconscionable that someone who provides a NECESSARY service, or goods would deny providing such based on the way a customer voted. I would suggest that all State legislatures visit this particular problem, and establish laws to govern the situation. Why is it that Democrats cannot act civilly unless under duress????? It is well that the situation regarding denying a baked cakes as opposed to providing a human necessity was brought up. What kind of a deviant can possibly think that they would have the right to do this. Unless there is a true change of heart on the part of this gas distributor . . . every regulatory agency in the state needs to descend on his business to perform audits–and issue fines! (I am quite sure that inspectors can find violations if they really tried.)

  4. If Michael Turner is looking to put himself out of business, it looks like he’s doing a swell job. “The business of America is business,” said Calvin Coolidge, and America is the place to have it succeed. (At least it used to be). Long Story Short: Turner isn’t here to convert anyone to his cause, and he’s a DOPE.

That being said, as a cab driver for over 30 years, I will dare say that it has taught me more about learning how to talk to people—and how to listen—than teaching high school English here in New York City. I have always allowed the passenger to take the lead as to whether (s)he wants to talk or not. And I begin with this end in mind: I always strive to allow the passenger to feel or believe that they won. Not that they converted me, but that I listened to and heard them.
This used to be my “business model” as a driver, and Why Not? THOUSANDS of people over the past 31 years have told me that I missed my calling, that I should be in radio, because I have the voice for it. (I have even had voiceover people in my cab, and they all tell me the same thing: You have to be in the right place at the right time!)
But, thanks to the rideshare company I offer my labor to (which I shall leave unnamed in my response here), this venue for a “sharing of the minds” is shrivelling up. How so? Let me explain.
Customers can rate their drivers. And for every 4-star rating and below, it takes about 50 to 70 5-star rides to get that rating back up. In other words, the rating system is ASYMMETRICAL AGAINST THE DRIVER. What this means is this: It has given the rider the power to downgrade the driver not on his professionalism or driving ability alone, BUT FOR ANY REASON. And you would be surprised on how FICKLE and how VINDICTIVE passengers can be: A rider can give a driver a 1-star rating for something as silly as a BAD HAIRCUT, bad music, or, Yes, even a driver’s religious or political beliefs.

I picked up a black female, in her 20’s, at E. 64 St. & 1 Av. She wanted to go to Chinatown. I hopped right on the FDR. I had Alex Jones on the app on my phone. I got off the FDR at South Street, and she asked to get out. She was in tears. Apparently, I had triggered her. But did she ask me to turn it off? No. At any rate, she contacted the rideshare’s office, and I was flagged. I went to the office to explain myself. My explanation was accepted. But I was also informed that the woman went to the office in person, to tell them that she intended to hire an attorney!
This was the extreme case, obviously. But one never knows whom one is dealing with, so it seems. So the poisoned atmosphere of political correctness has established its stranglehold upon everyday conversation. And this McCarthyism in reverse is always on the lookout for any sort of slight, real or imagined. Yes, political correctness is not enough: Microaggressions are on the march! IDEOLOGICAL RABIES has taken over!

So I wish Mr. Turn Of The Screw LOTS OF LUCK in overplaying his hand here! I hope he loses enough business so he has to live in a tent in the woods, eating small vermin and pine cones to survive! Don’t try to teach me ANYTHING, Mr. Turner. Ditto for you, too, East Side Honey! I have forgotten more than you have learned!

In the meantime, politics has taken over everything. It’s not enough that liberalism and the Democratic Party have shipwrecked the social fabric of America, NO: They are becoming everything they say they hate. Once the fighting is over and the dust from the Portobello subsides, Truth and Justice shall still be here.

I will judge Donald Trump’s Presidency on how effective he is on neutralizing these little Alinsky’s and their CULT of politically correct nihilistic reductionism. I’ll pray over it, but I’m not holding my breath. (In the meantime, I accept that any job is but a means to an end, and that my income comes from God and not a platform on an app.)

    • Steven . . . I am so sorry that driving turned into such a drag, I am sure it is because of the disintegration of the quality of human beings we have walking around.

Just as a matter of personal inquiry . . . how do you feel if a passenger just does not feel like engaging in conversation. Does this make you uncomfortable? Or, do you take it as a sign of rudeness on the passenger’s part. I am just wondering because I tend to not engage in conversation unless I know something of a person’s background, since my opinion’s may be viewed by others as being rather stringent . . . so I guess I stuck with just keeping my mouth shut, rather than offending the other party.

      • I let the passenger take the lead on conversation. I can usually tell if they want to talk beyond the exchange of pleasantries. But lately what I have been finding is that the leftists want to draw me out, to see if I’m on their wavelength. I have found that the lefties are the most predatory and intolerant people on earth. I detest them! So lately, I’ve been shutting my yap.

  6. I wonder if the guy that supplies gas to this libatard supports him or Mr. Trump. If it’s the latter instead of the former I wonder what the response would be from Turner if his supplies were turned off? Bet he’d say you can’t do that and if you do you’re violating MY freedom of speech/association/etc.
Screw all of these pathetic losers.

  11. If this is legal then the Left have just given us a basis for legal discrimination against them.

I’m not refusing services to you because of your race, national origin or sexual deviation, it’s because you are a Leftist. More importantly, because you are an insufferable, whiney farging icehole and a sinking bostich.

What’s good for the goose is sauce for the gander.

But even if we were to be able to discriminate now, legally, wouldn’t we just feel petty and mean? Evidently, being petty and mean is not an issue to the Left.

  12. One more thing: Turner Fuel has not actually denied anyone gas.

    • Now, how would you know that unless you’re Michael Turner?

      • Portland Press Herald

        • If you believe Michael Turner, that is, which means squat. You also manage to leave out the fact that Turner is selling gas illegally because he doesn’t have a license.

From Portland Press Herald‘s “Skowhagen propane dealer with anti-Trump message is not licensed to sell fuel“:

“A local propane dealer who said in a recent message that he won’t sell to anyone who voted for President-elect Donald Trump is not currently licensed to sell fuel, state officials said this week.

Michael Turner, who operates Turner LP Gas Service on Canaan Road, left a message for would-be customers on his company’s voicemail, saying ‘If you voted for Donald Trump for President, I will no longer be delivering your gas, please find someone else.’ That message was left on Friday, when temperatures were bitterly cold. The message goes on to say that the cost of gas remains $110 a bottle, with payment due on delivery.

Turner is not licensed to sell gas, and according to the Maine Fuel Board Turner’s propane license expired in 2012. Turner had two licenses, one for delivery and the other for dispensing, which expired in 2012 and 2014, respectively….

Despite his message, Turner said he has never actually denied anyone gas, and his intent was just to point out Trump is ‘unfit to be president of anything.’ … As to the issue of licensing, Turner said he had ‘no idea’ he hadn’t been licensed in years, but said he was retiring as of Dec. 31 anyway.”

So we are to believe Turner saying he never actually denied anyone gas — the words of a man without a conscience, who sells gas without a license since 2012 and who remains unrepentant for his message. Yeah, right.

You’re a disgrace, “Stephen” Michael Turner.

        • From the Portland Press Herald, “Turner said he has never actually denied anyone gas.” Doesn’t prove jack. Michael Turner is a bitter man. And until proven otherwise, is a liar who operates without a license. Shame on him.

  14. OOPS!!
According to the Maine Fuel Board, Turner’s propane license expired in 2012. Turner had two licenses, one for delivery and the other for dispensing, which expired in 2012 and 2014, respectively. The board became aware of the issue after the news of Turner’s message was reported by the Portland Press Herald late last week.”
How’s that for a parting shot!!

People need to look up alternatives, maybe all electric….if one can not compete over a gas monopoly up there…
