Our brother in Christ needs your prayers

prayer warrior

Sid, a reader of FOTM in Canada, is desperate.

In August of this year, after working for the same company as an electronics engineering technician for 4½ years, Sid was laid off, ostensibly because of “restructuring”.

At the time, thinking he would soon be re-employed either by another company or as a freelancer, Sid made the mistake of listening to friends who urged him to buy a house.

Meanwhile, Sid diligently searched, day and night, for another job, but in vain.  So he put his house on the market: he placed ads on every local classified site, MLS, Viewpoint, as well as called many customers and friends asking if they knew anyone who wanted to buy.

In October, Sid reached out to FOTM, asking for help. He wrote:

“I had nothing but bad luck most of my life specially this past year, I got laid off from both jobs and purchased a house alone, I went against my gut feeling and instead listened to people around me (neighbors, co-workers and couple of friends). Now those people are ignoring me yet when they want something they call me. I am really depressed and need your help as to what prayers and such I could do to sell this house and move on with life. Thank you.”

I wrote back with practical, psychological and spiritual suggestions. Our email correspondence ended with my attempt to get him out of his depression by suggesting that he begins each day finding ONE thing for which he’s grateful. I wrote, on October 27:

“I suggest you do this every day for the next month: Begin each day by thinking of ONE thing for which you are grateful.

During a time in my life when I was very depressed, I did that. And before I even realized it, my depression was gone.
Do that for a week, then email me back.”

More than a month passed.

This morning, Sid sent a plea, asking for prayers from FOTM‘s kind readers and powerful prayer warriors:

“I have been praying for 4 months and nothing works, others have been praying for me as well. House is still not selling and I was rejected for Employment Insurance. My life is getting worse, all I want is this house sold. Do you mind placing a thread on your website for everyone to pray for me?, thank you.”

Sid gave me his real name and address. I believe he is legit.

He has done everything he’s supposed to do in job-search and house-sale. He is abandoned by family and friends. He prays. He is desperate.

Please help our brother in Christ with your prayers and counsel. And if you or someone you know has a job for Sid (electronics engineering technician) or is in the market for a house in Nova Scotia, send me an email at:

Thank you for your kindness,

~Eowyn

    • Thank you, MDHobbit, and all who have sent their prayers, in comments here on this thread, and in emails sent to FOTM.

I appreciate everyone’s prayer and support. I have not found a buyer for my house yet even though I have e-mailed and called so many people as well as posted it on many local classified websites. Since everyone is aware the house is for sale I do not want to rent it for that reason and others.

I am still depressed and feel so guilty making such a bad decision in buying a house, looking back I never needed one but always had a tunnel vision of owning one. This is the worst experience of my life and hope house sells soon. Thank you again.

  5. I see that Sid lives in Nova Scotia, which along w/Newfoundland & Labrador are among our poorest in monetary wealth, although Newfoundland does have recently discovered and tapped oil reserves. But not everyone is fully employed, due to weather, low population base, etc.

If he lived in BC I could ask people I know who own firms that could employ him to look into it, but he needs to stay where he is and unload that mortgage, the curse of our usurious banking elite! My heart & prayers are w/him!

  9. Sid,
stay strong in Christ’s love. I pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you where you need to be. Remember, God hears and answers prayers in His time, not yours. I pray for His wisdom and equanimity to touch upon your heart and mind.
Do not be discouraged, be patient and listen for the still small voice guiding you and directing you. God loves you and will not leave you alone.

  15. Dear Sid I will pray for you. Two things:
Is it possible that at least you could rent the house out and therefore keep from defaulting on your mortgage until you find a buyer ? I had a friend who did this. She converted the garage for her and her husband to live in while she rented out her house. Maybe you could live with a relative while you rented your house?
Second…. I know from personal experience what it is like to feel hopeless. When I was in that space I let go of the fear and gave it all over to God trusting that somehow he would catch me even though I felt that I could die or end up out on the street. That was 25 years ago and I’m still here as you can see.Trust God. I know it is hard when you are frozen in fear and when all logic tells you there is no way out, but truly we keep our prayers earthbound when we pray in fear. Pray with love and let your prayers fly to heaven.

  16. And Sid, Dr. Eowyn’s suggestion of thanking God every day is wonderful. Stop and think about what would happen if you woke up and everything you forgot to thank the Lord for was gone. So, keep at it.

And so brother, we lift you up to the very throne of God, beseeching our heavenly Father to intercede for you, that your home may sell, a job may open up, the depression will fall away, and the sun will shine again for you. Lord God hear our prayers for Sid.

    We will continue to pray.

  18. Dear Sid, I will gladly add you to my prayers. I have found that when everything seems hopeless, a ray of light appears just when you least expect it. Keep the faith, and offer a hand of kindness to anyone who looks like they need it, but would never ask. Never give up on God’s love and mercy. Believe.

  23. A St. Joseph’s statute can be purchased in any religious goods store or online. It shouldn’t be expensive. If you search for a St. Joseph underground real estate kit, you’ll find a number of online sellers. But you can also purchase through a religious goods store if there is one in your area. St. Joseph is a powerful intercessor.

Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”

    • Sidney,

I don’t know what Christian denomination you are, but I recommend you consult a priest-exorcist. Seriously.

      You are in my prayers.

  26. I am a Maronite Christian. I agree with Dr.Eowyn on the priest-exorcist. How do I find one in Halifax/Dartmouth, Nova Scotia?. Thank you.

    • Just wondering how are you doing Sid, I too thought about recommending you an exorcist, but did not want to offend. However, I prayed today to your Guardian Angel and the Holy Spirit asking that you may be guided towards the right path, and voilá, someone did suggest it and you are open to it.
Keep the faith, God wants you in his team for sure.
In the meantime I leave you with this link, hope it helps.

    • Go to a local Catholic Church in Halifax/Dartmouth, ask to speak to the pastor, then ask for counsel and that your problems are so persistent and worsening that you wonder if it’s a case of demonic oppression.

If the pastor is not responsive, go to the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth: http://www.halifaxyarmouth.org/

            • Sidney, I don’t live in Canada, nor do I have special knowledge or connections with the Catholic dioceses in Nova Scotia. You need to do the leg work yourself. What about your own denominational church? Is there a priest/minister there you trust?

                http://www.ourladyoflebanon.org

but he does not believe in exorcism and most priests here do not.

                • First of all, we don’t even know if you are under demonic oppression; that’s for a priest to discern. Exorcism is for demonic possession, and one doesn’t just march up to a priest and demand one.

What’s your relationship with your pastor, Fr. Pierre Azzi? Do you have a spiritual director? You need to speak with a priest who knows you, is willing to spend the time to talk to you to discern if what ails you is spiritual/supernatural in nature.

At this point, I’ve exhausted ideas and counsel. Sorry.

                    • Please take Fr. Azziz’s very wise advice. I don’t know your denomination, but if your church has the sacrament of Confession, you need to go and make a thorough confession. If your church doesn’t, although I normally respect all Christian denominations, I strongly urge that you seek out a Catholic parish — the more traditional and orthodox the better. Ask to speak to the pastor if you can make Confession; begin attending Sunday Mass, unfailingly (one of the things that trouble me about your present church is the lack of regular Sunday Mass); and enroll in the RCIA program.

Meanwhile, you need to pray — fervently, with penance and conviction, especially the prayers of exorcism. The Our Father is one — the old traditional form actually ends with “but deliver us from the evil one”). The Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel is another, my favorite (click here).

I and countless readers of FOTM will continue to pray for you.

  27. Thank you Dr. Eowyn for telling us about this matter. I have just asked St. Joseph through an intercessory prayer, to help him sell his home and to bring order in his life.

  28. It is important that you pursue this recommendation Sid, since the evil one will make sure to trample you and do anything in his power to prevent you from getting spiritual help. Also, if you do buy a statue of St. Joseph, please, do not bury it nor place it upside down. Holy images are not supposed to be upside down. Catholics have many weapons that can aid you in your spiritual battle, you can buy a St. Benedicts medal and ask a priest to bless it and wear it always, Scapularies are also helpful, blessed water and salt might help too. Most importantly we will continue to pray for you.

  29. That is ok Sid.
Remember every trial has two sides: good and bad, and how we react to the trial is part of the trial itself. Trials are teaching moments no matter what course of action you choose to follow. There was a moment in my life when I started experiencing weird, crazy things around me. I had been suffering from imnsomnia so, followiing my dr’s.recommendations I started practicing Reiki, silly me, this opened a door into spiritual attack. Eventually this brought me closer to God. the sacramentals, the sacraments, controling my temper, forgiving whomever I needed to forgive. Slowly but surely things have gotten better, hang in there.

  30. Hi Sid, I’m so sorry you are going through this. One recommendation is to go online and find spiritual warfare prayers–the Catholic ones are very powerful, especially to Saint Michael. Here they are:

Let me tell you that around my house there are a couple of chores that I really dislike doing, is in those moments that I usually pray for you and they become more bearable, I can also offer some as a penance…one more dish, just for Sid. Don’t despair, your always in our prayers.
