Sunday Devotional: Stay awake!

Romans 13:11

Brothers and sisters:
You know the time;
it is the hour now for you to awake from sleep.

For, as Our Lord said to His disciples . . .

Matthew 24:42-44

” . . . stay awake!
For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.
Be sure of this: if the master of the house
had known the hour of night when the thief was coming,
he would have stayed awake
and not let his house be broken into.
So too, you also must be prepared,
for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”

All we are told is that He will come again when the world is drowning in sin and debauchery as in the days of Noah . . .

Matthew 24:37-39

Jesus said to his disciples:
“As it was in the days of Noah,
so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
In those days before the flood,
they were eating and drinking,
marrying and giving in marriage,
up to the day that Noah entered the ark.
They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away.
So will it be also at the coming of the Son of Man . . . . “

St. Paul counsels us how to stay awake and be prepared . . . .

Romans 13:12-14

Let us then throw off the works of darkness
and put on the armor of light;
let us conduct ourselves properly as in the day,
not in orgies and drunkenness,
not in promiscuity and lust,
not in rivalry and jealousy.
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ . . . .

Spiritual Warfare

Because, as it is said in . . .

Matthew 24:36

But of that day and hour
no one knows,
neither the angels of heaven,
nor the Son,
but the Father alone.

So, stay awake!

And love the Lord your God with your whole heart, your whole soul, your whole mind, and with every ounce of your strength.

May the peace and love and joy of Jesus Christ our Lord be with you,

  5. Thank you Dr. Eowyn for this wonderful post. God, in His mercy, gives us every opportunity to come to Him, and to trust in Him completely, renouncing sin and all evil. But He warns us to stay close to Him and stay away from evil for we do not know when he will come, when our life will end. Praise be to the Most Holy Trinity!
