GrubHub CEO threatens to fire employees who voted for Trump

liberal tolerance

Grubhub is an online and mobile food-ordering company that connects diners with local restaurants. Based in Chicago, the company has more than 44,000 restaurant partners in over 1,000 cities across the United States and the United Kingdom. Grubhub trades on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol “GRUB”. The company processes more than 267,800 orders/day and has 6.97 million active diners.

Matt Maloney is the co-founder and CEO of GrubHub.

On November 9, 2016, a day after the historic election that defied all expectations in electing Donald Trump president, Maloney sent an email to GrubHub employees decrying the electoral result.

With the patronizing contempt so typical of liberal élitists, Maloney referred to Trump voters as mindless people who are “angry and scared”.  He then characterized Trump as hateful, racist, bigoted, and “nationalist” (as if that’s a bad thing).

After spewing his diatribes, seemingly unaware that in so doing he displayed the very attributes he accuses of Trump and Trump voters — “angry,” “scared,” “hateful” and bigoted — Maloney then issued a truly hateful and bigoted threat to GrubHub’s 1,400 employees:

If you do not agree with this statement then please reply to this email with your resignation because you have no place here. We do not tolerate hateful attitudes on our team.”

Blowback against Maloney’s email was instant.

By the next afternoon, a Twitter campaign to boycott GrubHub was in full force.

Chicago Tribune reports that Maloney immediately backtracked, saying his words had been “misconstrued” and that “I did not ask for anyone to resign if they voted for Trump. I would never make such a demand. To the contrary, the message of the email is that we do not tolerate discriminatory activity or hateful commentary in the workplace, and that we will stand up for our employees.” In a tweet that was later deleted, Maloney added: “To be clear, Grubhub does not tolerate hate and we are proud of all our employees – even those who voted for Trump.”

Blah, blah, blah.

Predictably, after news broke of Maloney’s threat to GrubHub employees, the company’s stock performance plummeted.

Maloney did something very interesting the day before the presidential election.

Renee Jackson reports for The Cerbat Gem Market News and Analysis that on November 7, a day before the presidential election, Maloney sold 14,491 shares of the company’s stock at a price of $37.80, for a total transaction of $547,759.80 in personal profit. Following the sale, Maloney now directly owns 1,649 shares of the company stock, valued at approximately $62,332.20.

This means that on the day before the election, Maloney sold more than 89% (14,491) of his shares (16,140=14,491+1,649) in GrubHub.

Fascinating . . . .

There’s a petition you can sign, saying that “I join together with millions of other Americans to delete grubhub. We will not use Grubhub and we will encourage all of our friends and family to refuse to do the same.” To sign the “Delete Grubhub” petition, click here.

  1. It might be that he is homosexual and as their policy anyone who would be against same sex marriage is hateful and discriminatory. So he vented his hate against the stockholders and bailed out to be with his ‘friends’ and damn those who invested in the company. A typical hateful reaction of a lib caught with his mouth open and his brain in idle.

  4. I was glad to have the opportunity to sign this petition. I feel sorry, very sorry for all those who are still holding stock in his company . . . it would seem that in this instance “the Captain of this ship got into the lifeboat before either the passengers, or crew!” After reading this email, I feel it is no doubt a veiled threat to employees . . . they would do much better working for a business that is not so very “politically correct.”

    • I wonder if his decision would not legally be stock manipulation, a crime?

      • Excellent point! The stock nosedives and he can buy his position back and keep a truckload of profit.
Great post! I signed the petition.
Most Excellent Comment! Beat me to it.
I hope this clown gets investigated for stock manipulation and sued by some workers for work-place harassment. Some employees should Email him back and dare him to fire them for voting for Trump! His accusations against Trump are false. He is the Fascist oppressing his workers’ right to political opinion.

      • The FTC definitely should investigate Maloney’s massive sale of his GrubHub shares a day before the election and 2 days before the company’s stocks crashed.

What Grubhub is doing is a violation of numerous labor and anti-discrimination laws, not to mention Conspiracy Against Constitutional Rights including the First Amendment. This fool has opened himself up to enormous liabilities and this behavior has no place in America. I pray that this fool is put out of business and is banned from doing business in the USA in the future.

    • Ah, left/liberal progressives– thinking is “racist” to them, so being stupid is “inclusive” (theirs is not to wonder why, theirs is just to do proggie stuff and be shocked when it doesn’t work).

    • The goal of the Fabian Socialists AKA Progressives, then Liberals, and back to Progressives, the Clintonistas, the Obamunists & all their Alinskyite, ACORN, & CPUSA founders, has always been the United Soviet Socialist States of America. Since the Soviet Union collapsed of its own govt weight, incompetence, and depression of its people caused by oppression, they have shortened it to the United Socialist States of America. They also dropped the “Republic”, that was just there to make it look good. Their goal is One Party Rule, by the Elite and their loyal bureaucrats, the boot in the face of humanity, forever.
We stared into that political abyss this entire election. Trump is our chance to get back to Constitutional Govt. Restoring the Tenth Amendment to it’s intended power to prevent the constant Federal usurpation of powers from the States and the People would a good start.
Trump has done something amazing. Probably more so than he envisioned when he first started. The Movement may be the long hoped for “Great Awakening” of American values.
Like my ‘little’ brother, retired Snake-eater (US Army Special Forces) sez, “De Oppreso Libre”. To Liberate the Oppressed.
But it is up to us to follow through with really hauling our lazy asses way back from the abyss and build another wall of law, with specificity, morality, and individual responsibility that keeps the Lib/Progs from leading the lemmings back to the edge.
God bless Trump & all his supporters, and may God bless America again!

  11. Funny, he didn’t seem to have a problem with his employees before the election. I am suspecting the stock manipulation, like no one would notice.
For whatever reason, he should lose his right to own a company.
What the people do on their own time, is not his business, period.

  12. Thank you for this post. Once again, it’s not what you look at but what you see. Maloney appears to be dumb as a fox. The FTC should swiftly investigate Mr. Baloney.

  16. Matt “MK Ultra” Maloney must be a Trust Fund Baby because he’s ready, willing and able to ruin his business for the sake of his own ideology. Truth of the matter is, the ballot is secret, and it is secret for a reason. Therefore, what he is really doing here is suppressing free speech. Truth is, we don’t have to agree on anything to get the job done, except on HOW to get the job done! And this FASHIONISTA TWERP, this NARCISS-SISSY knows this!

So my question is this: WHERE is the ACLU when we really need them?

Great Post. Grub Hub will NEVER get ONE PENNY of my money. Hey, Maloney, Full of Baloney, you NARCISS-SISSY: GO STRAIGHT TO HELL!!!

    • Understand, Maloney is not risking much of his own investment since he sold most of his stocks before he opened up his big mouth and left behind stocks that are held by others who may or may not share political stance.
