Mexican president eats crow; apologizes to Trump

When Donald Trump was just one of many GOP presidential contenders, former Mexican President Vicente Fox called Trump “Ignorant … crazy … egocentric … nasty … [a] false prophet,” and vowed he and Mexico would not pay for Trump’s “f*cking wall” along the US-Mexico border.

But after Trump’s sweeping victory in last Tuesday’s Indiana primary election, which makes him the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee, Fox is eating crow.

Alex Swoyer and Joel B. Pollak for Breitbart that during an exclusive interview in the J.W. Marriott hotel in Santa Monica, California, on May 4, 2016, a day after Trump’s Indiana victory, Vicente Fox apologized for the vulgar language he has used regarding Trump’s proposal to build a wall along the southern border, and even extended an invitation to Trump to Mexico to see the border from the other side.

Fox said:

“I apologize. Forgiveness is one of the greatest qualities that human beings have, is the quality of a compassionate leader. You have to be humble. You have to be compassionate. You have to love thy neighbor. Love your nation. Love the world. Yes, I’m humble enough as leadership be, [a] compassionate leader. If I offended you, I’m sorry. But what about the other way around?

I don’t think he should follow the strategy of attacking others, offending others, to get to his purpose. There are other ways and means of doing it. I invite him to come to Mexico and to see what Mexico is all about.”

Fox stressed the important trade ties the two countries have, noting that the U.S. benefits from Mexican labor and has much larger trade deficits with other countries. He urged Trump to be more responsible, and condescendingly suggested that he could help: “I can convince him to think intelligently” about trade and other issues.

Thousands of Central American “migrants” on Mexico’s southern border

In January 2016, the Mexican government moved to lock down its other border — the one in the south bordering Guatemala — to prevent migrants (you mean they’re not “undocumented workers”?) from Central America (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras) from sneaking into Mexico, while on the way to the U.S.

The illegal “migrants” have accused Mexican officials of abusing them with beatings, extortion, robbery and willful neglect.

I don’t trust the Mexican President. Sounds like another narcissist and opportunist. He’s your friend when it benefits him or his country.

  2. This guy is a real piece of work, Back when several states were debating whether to legalize marijuana, he showed up to push for keeping it illegal here. I had to ask myself why would he care if it was legal or not in the US and who paid for him to appear? The only logical answer was someone who would incur economic harm if, say, importation of marijuana from Mexico was curtailed. Hmm, wonder who that might be?

  5. For Heaven’s Sake, I hope that Trump does not visit Mexico, at least for the first three years of his Presidency . . . why give any credence to such a POS. I am not convinced that the US goes get a fair deal with its association with Mexico. What I see is that Mexico and their people are sucking the life out of Americans, and our government. Isn’t it funny that Mexico does not want the problems and troubles that the influx of Guatemalans brings to them, but they have not problem with laying off the same problems and troubles on the USA.

    GO TRUMP!!!

  6. Apparently he’s realized that his previous comments weren’t well received. He’s now trying to walk it back,he’s probably afraid Trump will send all his people BACK to Mexico.

  8. I’m sick of this man. From Twitchy: “Former Mexican President Vicente Fox says Trump voters are ‘lazy,’ drink too much beer.” He also said this, “He’s a big fan of Hillary Clinton who he compared to Margaret Thatcher and urged all Mexicans in America “to support the Democratic party.”

    BITE ME.

  9. Way back when, as a younger man, who knew so much more than I do now, I assumed that those in government had been elevated to those positions of special trust and confidence because they were the very bestest, most intelligent, noble, honest and capable-est folk there is.

But with increasing clarity, (let’s start at an arbitrary point in the timeline, say, at White Water), we are seeing that those who are in power are there because they have a thirst for power, and are willing to lie, cheat, steal and where a long body count reveals — kill to obtain and retain that power.

And once achieved, abuse it endlessly.

This Mexican president seems yet another classless slug, that makes Richard Dreyfus (aka MOON OVER PARADOR) a paragon of honor in comparison.
