Leonardo DiCaprio, Environmental Hypocrite

This is what DiCaprio said:

“Raising awareness on the most pressing environmental issues of our time is more important than ever.” (Brainy Quote)

“I became an actor at a very young age, but I also had a deep respect for nature and I think I was sort of a little biologist when I was younger. I watched documentaries on rainforest pollution and the loss of species and habitats for animals around the world. It affected me in a very hardcore, emotional way when I was younger. So, later in life I wanted to continue that path more and investigate and learn more about ecological issues.” (etoncorp)

“It’s not just global warming, it’s not just a loss of biodiversity, it’s not just the pollution of our oceans and the clearing of our rainforests and all these complicated systems, The [11th Hour] movie talks about the world economy, it talks about politics, it talks about personal transformation and environmental consciousness that we need to have in this generation to implement a lot of these changes that need to occur.” (greenbuzz)

“Global warming is not only the number one environmental challenge we face today, but one of the most important issues facing all of humanity… We all have to do our part to raise awareness about global warming and the problems we as a people face in promoting a sustainable environmental future for our planet.” (famousquotes)

“I try as often as possible to fly commercially.” (The Guardian)

This is what DiCaprio does and the 5 luxury homes he owns:

He flies around on private jets and vacations on luxury yachts.

Here’s a 2012 headline on CelebrityFix, “Environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio arrives in Sydney on a private jet”:

Leo private jet

Here are the 5 luxury homes (that we know of) owned by Leo the great environmentalist:

1. A large beachfront estate in Malibu, California.

Leo's beachfront house in Malibu2. A $4 million home in Battery Park city, purchased in 2008.

3. A $5.2 million 6-bedroom mansion in Palm Springs, California, purchased in February 2014. The 1.34 acre property has 7 bathrooms, a detached state-of-the art gymnasium, a pool house and a tennis court with a glass pavilion surround.

Leo's house in Palm Springs4. $8 million 2-bedroom apartment adjacent to his existing $4 million home in Battery Park City, purchased in March 2014.

5. $10 million 2-bedroom, 2½ bath apartment on the 4th floor of the Delos building in New York’s Greenwich Village, at 66 West 11th St., which he purchased in May 2014 under the corporation name of his Malibu Colony PCH Property, LCC. The complex boasts facilities including vitamin C-infused showers, purified air and water, a circulated aromatherapy air supply, posture-supportive heat reflexology flooring, and “dawn simulation” provided by a circadian lighting design.

Bonus diCaprio quote:

“I prefer ordinary girls – you know, college students, waitresses, that sort of thing. Most of the girls I go out with are just good friends. Just because I go out to the cinema with a girl, it doesn’t mean we are dating.” (Brainy Quote)

The actual “girls” he “went out with” but didn’t “date” are all Victoria’s Secret and super models, including Gisele Bundchen, Amber Valletta, Kristen Zang, Blake Lively, Bridget Hall, Cara Delevinge, Eva Herzigova, Naomi Campbell, Erin Heatherton, Helena Christensen, Bar Refaeli, and Toni Garrn.

Leo's girlsI don’t begrudge DiCaprio flying around in carbon-burning jet planes, buying and owning 5 carbon-burning luxury homes, and dating supermodels. It’s his money.

Just stop lecturing to us about “saving” the environment and how you go out with “ordinary girls,” you insufferable hypocrite!

  1. I loved this. Pointing out hypocrites is fun. There are thousands in Hollywood that want to tell us how to live when they are the largest offenders.
Just like Gore, with his huge houses, his fuel guzzler private jet and his big ole SUV.
Anyone that tells us what to do or slams conservatives we have taken off our entertainment list. We give them nothing.
The world hasn’t warmed any since 1981. The USA has more trees planted today than 100 years ago.
If they feel the need for a cause, they can attack Brazil for cutting most of their rain forests down.

Your skillful investigative work on DiCaprio is indeed a self-indictment of his espoused system of belief vs. how he really lives. Amazing!

  12. If he really believed in saving the planet he would have more effect in saying he was never going to fly again. This is precisely why very few buy into AGW. They see those pontificating about it doing exactly what they tell others not to do.

Look what Ghandi achieved living a very simple life. Now that was pure class.

But let’s be thankful that the alarmists don’t follow this path. People may say “wow ,there really is something to worry about”

  17. Excuse me ladies and gentlemen, yes indeed Leonardo DiCaprio is living a luxury life at his scale owning a plane and houses but at least he gives his image to care about the environment issues, no one is a perfect environmentalist because we are living in a system that doesn’t primary deal directly with Global Warming . He would be a hypocrite if he was hiding his behavior to everyone, but he isn’t . May at least his message be an inspiration for his fans because i don’t hear many actor as him around having that concern and talk at the UN as he did .

  21. Dr. Eowyn, you have a valid point.
One problem I have with you all criticizing Leonardo though, is that not too many people care about these issues unless famous people get involved. It’s really a shame this has to be done. BUT it’s evidently and unfortunately necessary for people to even pay attention. I mean normal people, not the ones already sold on this cause (like you Dr. Eowyn?). Of course you don’t need Leonardo.
So.. he’s a poster boy. But the people behind this cause has been trying for decades without many people getting the message. I’m sure they are all very happy now to have Leonardo involved simply because this makes the headlines all around the world. They know the value of him and they need him. That is why they have asked him. Not because he lives an exemplary lifestyle.
On a second note, I agree that he does not live a “normal” life, but does that really disqualify him from now getting involved in a cause that truly is real and important? I’m not sure that he will be able to continue his old lifestyle now when he’s into all this. And maybe that’a good thing?

He may have big homes and have to fly in planes to go place to speak or work or take vacations or whatever but he does so much more to counter his carbon footprint then any of you big mouths probably ever will. At least he uses his fame and money to speak out and do something about issues he believes in. You all sound like you are a bunch of rw fanaticasl who like to deny that their is a problem with climate change!

Shut the hell up. Guess you are the Dr. of idiots. get your fat ass off the computer chair and go do something with your life.

However, I regret to inform you it is anatomically impossible for anyone to “suck” DCG because DCG doesn’t have a penis. Since you are fixated on penis-suction, I strongly urge you to send an email to the White House using the alias “Barack sucks Michelle/Michael.” Now *that is* anatomically possible.

Are all believers in global warming and defenders of Leonardo diCaprio fixated on penis and penis-suction like you?

  34. I think the saddest part is that the public looks at the message with scrutiny because of who delivered it instead of the actual message its self. Yeah he may have all these environmentally destructive possessions, but I bet if you all asked your self honestly “would you give up your wealth in the course of a night? or even a year ?” The answer defiantly wouldn’t be yes. We have become so accustomed to a life of consumption and selfishness that not even the poorest of people can let go of there possessions. You don’t want hypocrite to tell you how to live your life, then live you own god damn lives instead of following these fiction celebrities and make a difference!

Thanks for the gratuitous lecture. Actually, I have been living my life without heeding hypocrites. I’ve been recycling since before curb-side recycling pickups, hauling my paper & metals & plastic to recycling businesses in the industrial part of towns since I was a graduate student. • “…the public looks at the message with scrutiny because of who delivered it instead of the actual message its self.” The only “public” I see scrutinizing the message is bloggers. Not one Pravda-approved media outlet has ever questioned DeCaprio, ManBearPig, Branson, Begley, or any other “environmental activist” about their consumption and selfishness.

“…not even the poorest of people can let go of there possessions.” Why should they? The only way to care about the planet is for one to give up “there” possessions?

  35. Living in Alberta and working in oil I can see valid arguments on both sides of the equation. I find it honorable that Leo is spending his money to teach the world about (potential) climate change and it’s possible ramifications, but pointing fingers at those with smaller carbon footprints than your own is hypocritical. Leo, if you really want to get your point across, fly with the rest of us minions and perhaps downsize your properties to possibly 1 house retrofitted to run “off the grid”. Downsize your fleet of vehicles to one electric car, and start dating more “green” aware women who are against animal testing (makeup), and aren’t the poster girls for Cosmopolitan magazine (capitalistic pigs). Ironically Leo talks of Global warming as being man made. He obviously has not studied Geology and must think the world is 3000 years old because the earth has warmed and cooled hundreds of times throughout its geologic history of 4.6 billion years. I like your movies Leo, I like that you date hot chicks and have all the luxuries in life, but try to see the entire picture before telling what “we” are doing wrong. If you like, share the wealth and send half of my fellow Albertans who are out of work right now cheques. (or take us on the yacht for a party!) Thanks

Typically of the twit he thinks he’s an expert little biologist because he watched documentaries as a young spoiled brat. Here in Canada we had a laugh when he was shooting his recent Oscar winning film WHATEVER in Alberta when the warm Chinook winds in winter came in as they do every year and he thought it was proof of global warming.
