Taxpayer-funded college brings back segregation: “This space is not for white people”

A taxpayer-funded junior college in Olympia, Washington, invited faculty and staff for a “happy hour” party, but whites were excluded.

Can you imagine the cries of “RACISM” if the reverse — an event for whites only — had happened?

Drew Mikkelsen reports for Seattle’s KING 5 News, March 11, 2014, that South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) in Olympia, Washington, sent out an invitation to a “happy hour” to only the “staff, faculty and administrators of color,” excluding whites.

The email invitation made it clear white people were not invited: “If you want to create space for white folks to meet and work on racism, white supremacy, and white privilege to better our campus community and yourselves, please feel free to do just that.”

To ensure whites would not attend the happy hour, recipients of the invitation were asked to respond to the email in order to find out the time and location of the Happy Hour.

After news broke that white people were being excluded, the happy hour was cancelled.

SPSCC’s Dean of College Relations, Kellie Purce Braseth, said “It was obviously a mistake” and that the college believes the best way to celebrate and discuss diversity is to include everyone. “If you want to come you should be able to come, that just makes a richer conversation.”

Kamara Blackhorn
Karama Blackhorn, program coordinator for the school’s Diversity and Equity Center who wrote the original invitation, said the invitation could have been worded differently. But she still defends the exclusion of whites, insisting that staff members of color would have a more honest discussion about race without white employees because “When trying to explicitly talk about race it can be a really difficult conversation for a lot of people. This space is not for white people; this space is for people of color.”

You can see and hear Blackhorn saying that in KING5’s new video. Click here.

  2. Well, that was my reaction also, I thought, “Now is that a man or a woman?” Sad when you can’t tell whether a person is male or female.

    • I decided she was female because her given name ended in an ‘a’, as in most Latino cultures that indicates gender. A male would have an ‘o’, as in Romeo, and in this case a male would be Kamaro, rather like the car’s name, Camaro. And yes, the school’s Pres looks to perhaps be of dusky Semitic parentage, so even borderline, he may not have qualified for attendance.

Overall, for me at least, these people are either self-deceived or very confused: “Oh what a tangled web we weave, / when first we practise to deceive…” and all that [Walter Scott, in his ‘Mamion’]. That part of the world must have changed a great deal since I lived there, from 1958 to 1963, and first started university in WA state.

    • Definitely a woman, even the article refers to a “she”. However, upon first glimpse of her, and further analysis of her clothes, haircut, lack of makeup, piercings, et al, she is a lesbian, too.

  3. It is time for white people to start screaming “racism!” and claim reverse discrimination… use the same tactics against those that do this type of exclusivity in the name of diversity.

  4. The reverse racism is the norm for these socialist liberals. What really pisses me off is tax-payer colleges. These poor excuses of students are what you see in the picture. Deadbeat, idoctrinated sheeple who make careers out of college on the working class peoples backs. So few achieve goals to become productive people in soceity. Colleges anymore are a breeding ground for teaching hate and racism.

  5. Is this, and all these unprovoked attacks on non-blacks (cacasians, jews, asians, indians), the kind of thing that brought about the unfortunate rise of the Ku Klux Klan? The KKK claims it was this kind of thing that motivated their uglier actions.

I am no friend of the Klan, but want to warn people that this is exactly where we are heading. This is VERY BAD! Once justice is carried out by an angry mob, there will be neither justice nor mercy.

  9. i love how people are claiming – it’s time for white people start screaming racism – when have whites experienced not being able to get a job cause they were white-when did they have to fear walking down the street cause they were white – when where they lynched because of the colour of their skin – when were they imprisoned because they were white – when did people run over them in their car because they were white – when did black people start a group like the kkk specifically to extinguish them because they were white. When were millions of whites in the u.s. killed because they were white. Who are all the people on tv?blacks. who own all the business in the u.s.?blacks? The word racism for blacks is a direct CONSEQUENCE of what they have endured. hence whites have not experience racism – so you are not allowed to use it -it doesn’t exist!Actually you could even say – it’s racist for whites to claim they are experiencing racism. But really – this may just be mine opinion right. You keep your mind squabbling on such trivial things as race – when you aren’t even seeing what’s really taking on around your country.

    • Since you are in Canada, when did you become so concerned with the raaaaaaaaaaaaacist Americans?

” You keep your mind squabbling on such trivial things as race”…like this college did?

“when have whites experienced not being able to get a job cause they were white”…when Affirmative Action was set in place.

“when did they have to fear walking down the street cause they were white”…when they try walking in crime-ridden Detroit or Chicago.

“When were millions of whites in the u.s. killed because they were white.” When were millions of any color of Americans killed because of their race? Oh yeah: “More Black Babies Aborted Than Born in NYC”: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/02/21/black-abortion-sanger-planned-parenthood

“when did black people start a group like the kkk specifically to extinguish them because they were white”. See above and Margaret Sanger.

“it’s racist for whites to claim they are experiencing racism.” Google “knockout game” and “polar bear hunting”.

I see you’ve mastered Alinsky 101: “In conflict tactics there are certain rules that [should be regarded] as universalities. One is that the opposition must be singled out as the target and ‘frozen.’ ‘Why do you center on me when there are others to blame as well?’ When your ‘freeze the target,’ you disregard these [rational but distracting] arguments.”

Are you losing the debate? Shout racist and you silence the opposition which ends the argument allowing you to claim victory.

      • All great points, Eo, Mike, & DCG, and while I’m a native-born Chicagoan, 1943, I’ve been in BC, Canada since age 26, NOT a draft-dodger, and will add to your definitive squelches of this clown, who is spouting weird views not typically Canadian, IMO.

Here’s some news for you, Skerios: Italian and Irish immigrants were the lowest of the ‘white man’ totem pole in Chicago when I was raised there, 1943 to 1958. My immediate neighbours were Irish, and their son Jim Egan was one of my best friends. We were the ‘white niggers’ of Chicago, and first worked only in trades considered menial or less than worthwhile, such as janitor, garbage men, day labourers, etc., but gradually moved up to the ‘better artisans’ such as plumbers, masons, and carpenters.

Blacks were not really in our area, more a far South Side population, but they followed us as we left the lowest ranks, finally allowed into the trade unions when they’d logged the necessary minimum training time. As per their Roman ancestry, Italians were not racists and were among the first to sell their housing and real estate to blacks, much to the annoyance of some of the remaining ‘white’ neighbours who were not Italian or Irish. Blacks were sometimes tagged ‘black Irish’, but why I don’t know.

So what, Skerios, exactly is your point, other than the one at the top of your head? By the way, your name sounds Greek, and Penelope Paris was my first true love, age 13, and she was Greek, yet one more ethnic blossom in my home grounds. You might want to consider getting off your high horse and mix w/us plebs, as we don’t usually bite on introductions.

      • FYI-i my comments are comments from others experiences-not an argument. It’s just sad that people think race is the issue and make it out to be. Just because I’m in another country-does not mean we don’t see what takes place in America-that is why it’s a concern.

What, no concern for aborted black babies?

Nice Alinsky move…take no responsibility for your comments (“others experiences”) and then ignore the arguments I presented to you.

“nice to know that comments are only allowed to be made if they are in agreement with something”…Singling out the target, eh? FYI – Your comments were allowed on this blog.

  13. Well, grrrr….so much to say @ this, esp. when someone fr another country butts in wi/o studying US History—–SKERIOS—–You don’t want to talk to me about US Civil War History. You don’t want to talk to me about, for instance, the Triangle Shirt Factory Fire, where mostly Irish immigrant women were LOCKED into their work stations at menial labor and could not escape….You don’t want to talk to me about the Chinese working on the transcontinental railroad….You don’t want to talk to ME at all…so just butt out until you know some history—wouldn’t do you poorly to, for instance go back to your stellar English History and learn about the “Cleansing of the Highlands.” In scope this rivaled anything that went on in our USA with any racial group….only they didn’t endenture or enslave them…they just killed them outright…many in front of their family members. OH CANADA! Before you go belting that out and passing judgment on a neighbor…take the log out of your eye.
