How I Healed My Arthritis Naturally

The following is my personal experience.  However, I am not a medical doctor.  I make no claims regarding the information presented.  The information is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.  In the event that you follow any of the information contained here, the author of this post and the owner of FOTM assume no responsibility for your actions.

The doctor laughed in my face.

“There is no cure for arthritis!” she said.

I was at the veteran’s hospital.  For months I had experienced excruciating pain and stiffness in my right shoulder.  It felt like someone had taken a blowtorch and scorched the entire bone.  I couldn’t raise my arm higher than my ribcage and the pain was unbearable.

I thought I’d torn my rotator cuff, but the hospital’s X-rays showed something else.  When the doctor told me I had arthritis, I was shocked.

“Arthritis?!  I thought arthritis was for old people.”

“Young people get it, too,” she said.  “Lots of them.”

“Are you sure there’s no mistake?”

“No mistake.”  She pointed at my X-rays.  “You have advanced osteoarthritis. The cartilage in your shoulder is completely worn away, and your bones are rubbing and scraping against each other.  That’s why you’re in so much pain and you can’t raise your arm.”

That’s when I asked the “cure” question, and she let out a hearty laugh.

“What about my cartilage?  How do I rebuild that?”

“You can’t.  When it’s gone, it’s gone.  And yours is gone.  Basically, you have two options.  You can replace the entire shoulder with surgery, but that’s expensive.”

“How expensive?”

“Twenty thousand dollars.”

“What’s the second option?”

“Pain medication.  We can prescribe pain medication and show you how to inject yourself.  I can give you a shot right now if you want.”

“How long do I have to stay on this medication?”

“The rest of your life.  You have one of the worst cases I’ve ever seen.   Your bones are deteriorating.  In another year or two you may have nothing left.”

“Are you saying I’m going to be a cripple the rest of my life?”

She turned away, unable to hold my gaze.  “We treat thousands of arthritis patients at the hospital, and for those who can’t afford surgery, pain medication is the only choice.  Your bones will continue to deteriorate, but your pain will be lessened.”

“This is ridiculous.” I said.  ”There’s got to be a way to heal this.”

“Not a chance,” she insisted.  ”The best medical minds in the world have studied arthritis for decades and no one has found a cure.  If they did, they’d be rich and famous.”  She reached for a large syringe.  ”Would you like me to give you a shot of pain medication?”

I rose and headed for the door.

“Where are you going?” she asked.

“To find a way to heal this.”

Her laugh echoed across the walls and down the long hall.  “You’re crazy!  No one has ever healed arthritis!”

I headed straight to the downtown library.  To my surprise, I found over forty books on arthritis.  I checked out as many as I could and put holds on a dozen more.

Back home, I read late into the night before giving up in disgust.  To my dismay, the books all repeated what the hospital doctor had told me: arthritis was incurable and could only be treated by surgery and drugs.

Within days, my pain became worse and spread to my right forearm and hand.  I couldn’t grip anything.  I rushed back to the hospital for a second opinion.  The second diagnosis was worse than the first.  Now the bones in my forearm were deteriorating along with my shoulder.  And, of course, there was no cure.  The second doctor told me I would be crippled and bedridden in a matter of weeks without immediate bone replacement surgery.

That night I lay in bed unable to sleep from the searing pain.  It felt like a red-hot jackhammer was pounding into my shoulder cap, my forearm, and my hand. Thrashing around in my sweat and tears, I did what many people do when faced with dire circumstances: I prayed and begged God for help.

Around 3 AM, a sudden urge prompted my to turn on my bedside radio.  I heard Dr. Gary Null, the well known health advocate, talking about a doctor named Marshall Mandell who had an 80% success rate treating arthritis patients. According to Gary, Dr. Mandell believed arthritis was caused by food and environmental allergies.

The next day I was back the library, only now I had a glimmer of hope.  I checked out three books: “Dr. Mandell’s 5-Day Allergy Relief System” by Dr. Marshall Mandell, “A Doctor’s Proven New Home Cure for Arthritis” by Dr. Giraud Campbell, and “Arthritis: The Allergy Connection” by Dr. John Mansfield.

These three books, all written by medical doctors, described arthritis as the body’s reaction to allergies, primarily food allergies, and they provided plenty of documentation and case studies.  This was a direct contradiction to everything the hospital doctors had told me and everything the other arthritis books said.  I almost fell out of my chair.  The answer was right under my nose all along!

Immediately, I stopped eating and drinking everything I was used to and began a bland diet of organic brown rice, organic broccoli, and organic lettuce.  For drinking and cooking, I used only distilled water.

Within a week, my pain began to subside, first in my hand and forearm, and then in my shoulder.  In two weeks, I felt immensely better and could actually raise my arm over my head, something I had not been able to do for the last three months.

Slowly, I added my old foods back to my diet.  I noticed certain foods triggered immediate pain and when I stopped these foods the pain went away.  The books were right!  Arthritis was nothing more than an allergy!

Day by day, my pain lessened, my mobility increased, and my enthusiasm soared.

I began drinking large quantities of raw organic vegetable juice (celery  juice was a favorite) and felt better and better.  (At the time, I used a cheap $49 centrifugal juicer.  I have since learned that the absolute best way to juice is with a grind and press machine where the produce is first ground into a pulp and then squeezed with a press to extract the juice.  This procedure retains the most vitamins and minerals from the juice.  The Rolls Royce of grind and press juicers is the Norwalk Juicer.  It’s the best, but it’s also the most expensive.  The kind I currently use is the Champion Juicer along with a separate press machine.

Eliminating the pain-inducing foods and consuming large quantities of raw organic food was by far the most important thing I did to heal my arthritis naturally.

Around this same time, I bought a DVD from Matt Furey called “How To Eliminate Shoulder Pain Forever.”  Matt presented a series of shoulder stretches and exercises done with a chest expander.  I bought a cheap $20 chest expander made by Altus Athletic at the local sporting goods store, and began doing the stretches and exercises.  At first I was so weak, I could barely pull a single strand, but I did the best I could three days a week.  Over time, the strands became easier and it felt good to get some nutrient-rich blood circulating throughout my entire shoulder girdle.

In two months, 80% of my pain was gone, and in six months I was completely healed with full mobility of my shoulder joint and zero pain.

From being so weak and crippled I couldn’t close a car door, I was now able to perform ten repetitions of handstand pushups, with the entire weight of my body supported on my hands and pressed up by my shoulder muscles.  All this, less than a year after being diagnosed with advanced osteoarthritis and told there was no cure for my pain, no cure for my lost cartilage, and no way to stop or reverse my rapidly deteriorating bones.

The entire cost of my healing was around $100 for some books, a DVD, and a chest expander.

The main key, the primary ingredient, in healing my arthritis naturally was removing allergic foods from my diet, and almost all of these were processed foods.  As those foods were eliminated, my pain and stiffness just melted away.  Which begs the question…

By now, you may be wondering if this is all so easy, if arthritis can be healed by removing allergic foods, then why aren’t we told about it?  Why are we told it’s incurable and urged to treat it with surgery and drugs?

Perhaps a clue can be found in a NY Times article that states that the arthritis industry generates $700 million in annual drug sales and over $3 billion in retail sales.  Compare that to the $100 I spent to heal my arthritis naturally. Coincidence?

As a bonus to my healing, by eliminating all processed food from my diet, I began to look a lot younger.  Many people who knew me were shocked.

Since healing my arthritis naturally, I’ve found some other things that might be helpful.  If I had known of them at the time I would have used them.

One is hot and cold therapy.  I learned of this from reading books by Dr. Richard Schulze. Hot and cold therapy consists of exposing an injured or inflamed body part to one minute of hot water followed by one minute of cold water, back and forth for several minutes.  The hot water brings nutrient-rich blood in to the body part and the cold water pushes the blood out. This is a tremendous healing protocol.

A second thing I would do is to embrace the nutrition advice of Dr. Weston Price. Dr. Price is the only nutritionist in the history of the world who proved conclusively what the ideal diet is for humans.  You can read of Dr. Price’s findings in his masterpiece. Nutrition and Physical Degeneration.  It’s pretty stiff reading, but it’s the best nutrition book ever written.  It’s available at www.ppnf.org.  An excellent summary of Dr. Price’s work can be found in the book, Cure Tooth Decay. by Ramiel Nagel.

Finally, if I had to heal my arthritis again, I would pray more.  There are hundreds, if not thousands, of documented studies detailing the remarkable effects of prayer on healing.  Why buck the evidence?  It’s free, it’s easy, and it works.

  1. Thank you, Mike, for sharing your astounding experience with us. There is now plenty of evidence that processed food is awful for our health. But it’s not just processed food — the meat from the corporate food industry is packed with antibiotics and hormones force–fed to the cows, pigs, and poultry, which can’t possibly be good for our bodies.

The diet you recommend — of organic vegetables and juice — is minimally harmless and maximally gives us important vitamins, nutrients and fiber, all of which can only help whatever ailment that plagues us.

    • Mike, I’d be curious to know if the cartilage in your shoulder actually grew back. Did you ever get an x-ray after your wonderful results to see the actual status of your joint? Is it no longer bone on bone? That would be impressive!

      • Janie, I did not get another X-ray. When I tried telling the doctors over the phone how I had healed myself, they did not want to talk to me. To this day, the pain is gone. I’m pretty sure that if I went back to processed food the pain would return, but that’s an experiment I don’t want to try.

  2. My wife eliminated the arthritis pain in her fingers by TOTALLY eliminating gluten from her diet. That of course is another food alergy that has other problems associated with it but completely eliminating the gluten solved them all.
    Thanks for sharing.

    • As long as you do not ADD more gluten, you’ll be fine. Some bakers add gluten because it makes the texture more ‘perfect’. But gluten’s main characteristics are what makes manufacturers add it to products that never had gluten in the first place! “ALWAYS read the labels” is the key here.

  6. Thanks for sharing this Mike. You said that you were allergic to processed foods. If you don’t mind, which foods were you the most allergic to? I’m going to try this. I’m still looking for the Organic brown rice. I would not want to consume much rice long term as arsenic levels are said to be high even in US produced rice. I’ve already gotten to the stage where my hands are gnarled.

Also, I’ve heard some recent warnings about nerve damage from the hot and cold treatments. Just be careful if you try those.

    • Kathy, you may not need brown rice. I just did that for a week or two, because it was suggested in one of the allergy books. Organic brown rice is usually available in health food stores and Asian markets.

In my case, I was eating those so-called health/nutrition bars you see at health food stores and even in regular supermarkets. They’re supposed to be healthy, but they’re still processed. Today I don’t eat anything that comes in a can, box, wrapper, jar, or plastic.

Yes, with the hot and cold treatment I never make it too hot or too cold.

Let me know how you make out.

    • Kathy, my hands were previously so badly inflamed that when I went to drive early in the day I could not close them around the steering wheel, so safe driving was impossible. By August 02, 2012, I was burdened w/so many afflictions I’d lost my will to live, and started thinking about winding down. As you know, chronic pain and debilitation do that to us mere mortals.

However, on August 03 I received my first two bottles of Laminine from my friend Dr Tom OBrien, well-known naturopath in Yonkers, NY. He was 73 and described the many benefits he had gotten from just 2 caps a day. After taking 2 caps a day for six weeks my entire life began to turn around: my R knee had healed enough so I stopped using a cane; my hands were half the size they had been, and had new flexibility and freedom from pain. I was in daily contact w/Tom by Skype, emails, and phone: he had me start buying Laminine from its source, LifePharm in California. I am now a distributor-seller, taking SIX caps a day to heal my recent inguinal hernia in lieu of an operation, which was cancelled “Thank God!” by your and my friends’ prayers.

Write to me, jefasciani@shaw.ca, and I’ll send you the fact sheets, or go to my web-site for the info video: http://eggoflife.com/josephbc/

FYI, Laminine was written about on this site by Eo a few years ago. It was discovered by Dr John Ralston Davison MD, a cancer specialist, in 1929. He had a 90% cure rate in his patients, and they mentioned how other deficits were healing. It is only found abundantly in a 9 day old fertilised hen chicken egg, so it’s a food supplement and cannot be patented, which is why Big Pharma is not interested in it: no profit if you cure people!

  7. Thank you Mike for your interesting post. As you know, I have severe osteoarthritis which is hereditary from my mother’s side of the family. I do eat many vegetables and fruit. I do eat some processed foods, but minimally. I have this condition throughout various parts of my body. I will speak with my doctor about what you have said, as I trust him implicitly. Again, thank you so much for this valuable information!

    • Dear Joan: please research the benefits of taking Laminine, as part of amino acid therapy. It has done miracles for millions now, and Eowyn posted about it some time ago, maybe a year? Anyhow, write me if you wish more info, jefasciani@shaw.ca. I’m just now come down w/L hip pain which my GP thinks may be arthritis, so I fully empathise w/yr pains!

  8. Hi Mike,
I really enjoyed reading your article, and I think it is so well written. I am a 55 yr old woman, although I don’t feel a day over 30 mentally. To my surprise and disappointment, I woke up one day in mid July of 2014 with every joint and muscle aching, where none of them ached previously. I have been recently working with a Law of Attraction life coach and affirming that this pain is leaving my body. I feel that I was Divinely led to your post because I know that we can heal ourselves naturally without drugs. After reading your article, I now have a path to follow for my own healing and hope to one day soon, be writing my own post about how my pain is gone. I do have one question and that is: for those of us who have a sweet tooth, does your new way of eating include anything that will satisfy that desire? I would love to see an example of what you eat in a typical day. I work in an office where I bring my food for the day and I need all the ideas I can get! Thank you so very much and I am so grateful for your post. Joy in Fort Myers Florida

    • Joy, thank you for that beautiful and heartfelt response!

Regarding a sweet tooth, you’ll love red delicious apples, especially organic ones. Seeded organic grapes are also wonderful. (I would not recommend seedless fruit of any kind.) Where I live, raw milk from grass fed animals is available and it is not only tremendously healthy, it tastes great. You might be interested in researching Dr. Weston Price and his work. I am a raw foodist and follow his guidelines. The most important factor in healing my arthritis was eliminating all processed food.

Funny that you mentioned the Law of Attraction. I was a big proponent of it for several years, especially the Abraham-Hicks books. However, I’ve since lost all respect and trust for the Hicks’ and most of the other LOA writers and gurus. Jerry Hicks died of cancer a couple of years ago, and Esther Hicks is a channeler who most likely channels some sort of demonic spirit. A lot of her statements, while channeling, are outright false, not to mention blasphemous to Christians.

She spoke glowingly of aka Obama’s election and we all know today how evil and dishonest the man is. She made a statement I heard once that more people have been killed in the name of Christianity than for any other reason, which is absurd. About 6,000 people died in the Inquisition, and although thousands more died in the Crusades, those were battles to retake Christian land that Islamists had invaded. Meanwhile, Communism in the last century killed over 100 million people, more people than have died in all the wars in the history of the world combined.

She says that people who want to wage war should be allowed to, because either we all have freedom or none of us do; that those who are killed, maimed, or raped in war “attracted” it; and that government has no power over people so it should be ignored. She teaches that all morality is relative. There is no right or wrong, only that which is desired or not desired. No heaven or hell. No matter what crimes one may commit, he or she returns to loving source energy and reincarnates again. Actually, despite repeated statements that there is no hell, on one old tape she said that because some people’s belief systems were so strong, for them they did create hell, “but it’s not as bad as everyone says”!

While I do believe in positive thinking and that we attract like-minded people in our lives, it seems that many in the LOA movement are slick salesmen or con artists. They’ll give you nine parts truth in order to slip in one part lie. The most dangerous element of them all is they way they encourage people to live their entire lives based on feelings, rather than intellect. Which is the exact same thing that leftism preaches. Live your life according to whims and emotions, ignore the news and current events, pay no attention to politics or government because no matter how corrupt government is, you can attract to your own life anything you want. If an abortion makes you “feel” better, then do it, etc.

Even Marianne Williamson turned out to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. She supports abortion and gun control and wants Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren to run for president!

Anyway, I’m very happy about the positive steps you’re taking! Please keep us posted on your progress.

  9. Hi Mike! I’m so happy you healed yourself naturally. Will this work for discs in the neck? I have some degeneration in 2 discs. I have been juiceing and eating fruit for 2 months so far. I did eat meat a few times. I have some improvement, but not a lot. My neck is very stiff and I have muscle knots and spasms. Any advice would be appreciated🍃

    • Dear Kristie:
Meat in of itself is not THE culprit, but it’s not easy to find a source of NATURALLY raised animals, on free range for grass and the other foods they need. 90% or more of animals are raised on horrible factory ‘farms’ and fed ground animal parts in their ‘feed’, although they are vegetarians. VERY bad juju here, as that’s where ALL the disasters in the media [when reported] originate. Remember the Jack in the Box scandal?

Start by eliminating all the white crapola that’s put on sale as ‘food’ for humans: white flour, rice, breads, etc. What nutrition they had was stripped off by a factory and sold as animal feed instead, or as a food ‘supplement’. How sick a joke is that?

As Dr Roger Williams has written endlessly [US genius nutritional scientist who discovered TWO of the B vitamins, an unmatched accomplishment!], strive to consume all foods in as natural state as possible, w/MINIMAL cooking, as the more heat the more breakdown of amino acids, etc. Do NOT eat more than 1/3rd of your diet as carbohydrates, apart from vegetables.

ALWAYS use butter on any veggies, as an animal fat is required for your body to metabolise their nutrients. ABSOLUTELY avoid ALL margarines, and never cook with anything other than lard, butter, olive oil, and coconut oil. If you like fried foods, that’s fine, BUT use a 50/50 mix of lard and coconut oil and DO NOT go above 400 degrees, about medium-high after the pan/pot is warmed. Do as wise chefs do and start making ‘fortified’ butter by mixing half lard or coconut oil with butter: and turn the heat down!

Finally, cook as your grandmother did, and experience a rebirth of health and vitality.

  10. Thanks Mike. I was diagnosed with RA 10 years ago. I had several flare ups but had plenty of good days to balance it out.

However since December my pain has been immense with no breaks. This morning I could not even if my hand bag.

As I sat in the train, I decided to Google a prayer for RA and came across a beautiful one on http://www.prayers-for-special-help.com/prayer-to-heal-rheumatoid-arthritis.html

    I said the prayer.

Right after, I went back to see other prayer links and came across your website and write up. It was an immediate answer to my prayers. Thank you Jesus.

And I returned to live in the house a day after fumigation. I have been eating nutritious foods but did not completely eliminate meat. My complete blood test showed no abnormality but my knee x-ray indicated oestiocytes.i my concern is that we do not know the nutritional value of most foods and can tell the ones that may further cause harm or th egos ones. 18. Hi Mike. Thanks for the post. I wanted to mention (which you may already know)…that part of the Weston A. Price Foundation promotes bone broth as a way of healing. Of course making your own from scratch is best. There are also companies (Vital Proteins, Bulletproof, Great Lakes, Dr. Axe) that make both collagen and gelatin supplements from grass-fed cows. It’s a simple powder tasteless and odorless you can mix into liquids to help supplement for the lack the of collagen and/or gelatin missing from your body to help heal. It’s great for hair, skin, nails, joints and stomach lining. Also on another note turmeric is nature’s anti-inflammatory 😉

  19. I began experiencing sharp pain and stiffness in my right hand. This pain always occurs in the morning and may not go away. I thought that I hurt my hand somehow but I could not remember what I did. I also began to experience extreme fatigue and malaise. About 4 months later, I went to the doctor and after many repeat blood tests to rule out Lyme disease and Lupus, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). I was adjusting to the medications Plaquenil and methotrexate, but they make me feel sick also. I had a ringing in my ears and loss of appetite. I sometimes had problems writing, dressing, or writing with my right hand. When the medication no longer helps, i was introduced to Health herbal clinic in Johannesburg who have successful herbal treatment to rheumatoid arthritis diseases. I spoke to few people who used the treatment here in United States and they all gave a positive response, so i immediately purchased the rheumatoid arthritis herbal remedy and commenced usage, i used the herbal supplement for only 5 weeks, all symptoms gradually faded away, herbs are truly gift from God. contact this herbal clinic
