Christ is the King

Today is the feast day of Christ the King!

Revelation 1:5-8

Jesus Christ is the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead and ruler of the kings of the earth.

To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood, who has made us into a kingdom, priests for His God and Father, to Him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen.

Behold, He is coming amid the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him. All the peoples of the earth will lament Him. Yes, Amen.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the one who is and who was and who is to come, the almighty.”

  1. So beautiful!

  2. Pope Pius XI felt it was necessary “to remind the faithful that whatever political powers might hold sway, ultimately, it is Christ who is ‘King of kings and Lord of lords.’ ”

Secularism is a view of life that limits itself not to the material in exclusion of the spiritual, but to the human here and now in exclusion of man’s relation to God here and hereafter. Secularism, or the practical exclusion of God from human thinking and living, is at the root of the world’s travail today. It was the fertile soil in which such social monstrosities as Fascism, Nazism, and Communism could germinate and grow. It is doing more than anything else to blight our heritage of Christian culture, which integrates the various aspects of human life and renders to God the things that are God’s. Through the centuries, Christian culture has struggled with man’s inborn inclination to evil. The ideals of Christianity have never been fully realized—just as the ideals of our Declaration of Independence and of our Constitution have never been fully realized in American political life. But for that reason these ideals can neither be ignored nor discarded.

    • Brit,

I heard on talk radio this morning while I was getting ready for church that the reason why the Left, unlike conservatives & Republicans (not synonymous!), never give up or compromise on their agenda despite electoral setbacks is because their ideology (liberalism, secularism, socialism) is their religion, to which they hold with unbending religious fervor. Whereas many conservatives already have a religion — Christianity.

      • Dr. E and Joan, thank you so much for this! No matter how discouraged we get with worldly leadership, we know who reigns for eternity!

      • Also a quite awesome reply! The more we know about those we confront, the more we can bring this country back around to where it began. And I also like your differentiation between Republicans and conservatives. If I could vote in my state’s primaries, w/o an R or a D after my name, I’d be Independent, but I’m not having some chowder-head pick my final choices. I’m torn between open primaries cuz that’ll jump up and bite ya if it’s a year when your candidates are running and their’s aren’t – like this year, but ohhhh what we could do if the shoe was on the other foot! *wicked grin* 2016, both sides will have folks running, so it would be even-steven. I learned a LOT between you and Brit this evening. Thanks!

    • Awesome Brit, I surely never looked at it that way, I just knew they were missing out big time. You may have quoted any or all of it, but it’s absolutely spot on! Thank you for this both you, Brit and also to you, Dr Eowyn and Joan!

  3. Thank you once again for providing inspiration to my weary soul. He is my Lord,my God.
As all the world deteriorates in chaos, we can find comfort, solace and support in our Almighty God.

    • I share your sentiments, hrmfc. No matter how trying our circumstances, we are anchored in Him. He did warn us it would be a difficult road if we follow Him: “Pick up your cross and follow me.”

      Courage, and God bless!

  4. Yes, let us never forget that Jesus Christ is still on the throne & He rules forever more !
We often don’t understand why things occur the way they do, but this is where Faith comes in. One glorious day we will know & understand all the “whys”– until then, I’m “Living By Faith in My Jesus Above”, as that dear old hymn states—!

  5. Thanks for this beautiful post, Dr. Eowyn! I have been so blessed to have found this site & appreciate all of you who so faithfully contribute to educate and inspire !

  6. God bless everyone who responded in such a wise and holy manner! We are all very happy to be the People of God, to serve God first in our lives and to enjoy the relationship with our dear Jesus, the King and Lord of all! As one of my favorite saints said just before he was to die for his faith and for Jesus, “I am the king’s good servant, but God’s first.”
