Back when Clinton was president, there would be these “bimbo eruptions” — of women who came forth saying they’d had extramarital affairs (Monica Lewinsky and Gennifer Flowers), were propositioned and sexually harassed by (Paula Jones ), or in the case of Juanita Broaddrick, was raped by good ol’ Bill.
Herman Cain, too, is having “bimbo eruptions.” The only thing is, unlike in Clinton’s case, we’re not sure that Cain’s bimbos are telling the truth.
To date, there’s a total of five successive women who’ve accused Cain of sexual harassment. In all cases, the alleged harassment took place in the brief span of three years when Cain was president of the National Restaurant Association (NRA), from 1996 to 1999.
Here are the five women:
In October 2011, Politico reported that two former female NRA employees had complained about inappropriate behavior by Cain during his tenure as NRA president. Both women accepted financial settlements from the association which barred them from discussing their allegations further. Later one of the two women came forth and revealed her identity (see Accuser #2). But to date, Cain’s Accuser #1 remains anonymous.
On November 8, 2011, one of the two women who got a financial settlement from the NRA emerged from anonymity. She is Karen Kraushaar, 55, who had donated to the Democratic Party in 2009.
Kraushaar had never described exactly what Cain was accused of saying or doing to her other than telling ABC that Cain “could be described as a monster.” Her attorney Joel Bennett said she had a “series” of incidents with Cain while she was employed at the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s and his actions “qualified as sexual harassment in our opinion.” In 1999, Kraushaar settled a sexual harassment complaint against Cain for $45,000.
For his part, Cain says he does remember Kraushaar, specifically an interaction when he told her she was the same height as his wife who came up to “here,” as he gestured to his chest.
Kraushaar has a history of complaints. In 2003, while working as a spokeswoman at the Immigration and Naturalization Service in the Justice Department, Kraushaar filed a complaint accusing a manager of sending a sexually-charged email, and of being treated unfairly because she was not allowed to work from home after a serious car accident. The manager’s “sexually explicit” email listed reasons for how men and women were like computers, including that men were like computers because “in order to get their attention, you have to turn them on,” whereas women were like computers because “even your smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for later retrieval.”
To settle the complaint at the immigration service, Kraushaar initially demanded thousands of dollars in payment, a $12,000 to $16,000 promotion, and a one-year fellowship to Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. She later dropped the complaint before going to work for the Obama administration as the Treasury Department’s Office of the Inspector General’s communications director.
On November 3, 2011, it was reported that a third, but unnamed, woman told the Associate press she had received unwanted comments from Cain during his tenure as head of the NRA. The woman said Cain had commented on her attractiveness and invited her up to his corporate apartment, which made her feel “very uncomfortable.” She had considered filing a complaint against Cain but eventually did not file one because she started to have fewer interactions with him.
Woman No. 4 is Sharon Bialek, 50.
Bialek had worked at the National Restaurants Association from 1996 to 1997. In 1997, Bialek claims, she went to Cain for advice about a job and he tried to grope her, putting his hand up her skirt and pushing her head to his crotch: “He suddenly reached over and put his hand on my leg…under my skirt and reached for my genitals. He also grabbed my head and brought it towards his crotch.”
When she asked him what he was doing he replied: “You want a job don’t you?” Bialek said “I told him to stop and he did, I asked him to leave me to my hotel and he did.”
A single mother and suburban homemaker who lives in a large five bedroom house with her fiance — who said he first heard about the ‘shocking’ allegations on the day Bialek held a press conference with attorney Gloria Allred by her side — Bialek has a checkered history. She has not held a job for more than two years and has twice filed for bankruptcy, missed credit card and rent payments and constantly avoiding bill collectors.
In 2001, she claimed $5,700 in assets and more than $36,000 in liabilities. Among the creditors seeking payment was a management firm demanding back rent of $4,500, four credit card companies and a lawyer asking for his legal fees. The IRS filed a tax lien against her in 2009 for nearly $5,200. In August, the Illinois Department of Revenue claimed Ms Bialek owed the state more than $4,300, including penalties and interest, relating to income taxes from 2004, according to county records. Court records also show creditors took legal action against her during the past decade, including at least one lawsuit filed in Cook County.
Bialek is also said to have accused a former boyfriend of harassing her for money he had loaned her after she borrowed $4,500 from him. A friend told the New York Post: “This is a lady who lives off the system. She is hellbent on finding a way of never having to work and living the lifestyle she wants to live, a very affluent lifestyle.”
Coincidentally, Bialek had lived in the same apartment building in Chicago as Obama’s White House adviser David Axelrod — at 505 North Lake Shore Drive.
Woman No. 5 is former USAID worker Donna Donella, 40. She claims that, in 2002, Cain asked her, who was then 31 years old, to set up dinner with an Egyptian business woman who had asked him a question during a speech he gave in Egypt.
Donella said: “After the seminar was over, Cain came over to me and a colleague and said, ‘Could you put me in touch with that lovely young lady who asked the question, so I can give her a more thorough answer over dinner?”‘
But she declined to set up the date because she was su∞en said, ‘Well then I’ll have dinner with you because I hate to eat alone.’ I think that my face indicated that I was uncomfortable with that and so my colleague jumped in and said, ‘Let’s all go to dinner.’ I thought that it was kind of suspicious that a married man was asking to have dinner with the woman from the audience, and then asked to have dinner with a single woman working on the project, so I was not comfortable with that. As a woman, sometimes you have a feeling about these things that some men don’t always have the purest of intentions and that was sort of the vibe that both my colleague and I had gotten, which is why we kept it as a group outing, which is why I didn’t put myself in a situation where I’d be alone with him at all.”
Cain then left them with the bill after ordering two $400 bottles of wine.
Cain has steadfastly denied all accusations, claiming he never acted inappropriately towards anyone, even going so far as to say he has never even met Sharon Bialek and vowed to take a polygraph test if necessary to prove his innocence.
Even before Woman #4 (Bialek) came forth, the allegations had already taken their toll in Cain’s declining poll numbers. Among Republican voters, his favorability ratings fell 9% from 66% to 57% in just a week.
On November 9, 2011, Cain got some help when a private investigator, TJ Ward, said his $15,000 lie-detecting software (used by law enforcement across America to tell when someone is lying), with a 95% success rate, shows that Cain was not lying when he denied the sexual harassment claims at a November 8 news conference in Phoenix.
The software can detect lies in people’s voices by analyzing the stress level and other factors in your voice. Ward maintains that during Cain’s speech when he denied the claims, the lie detector read “low risk,” which means Cain is telling the truth. Ward believes there is no doubt Cain is innocent: “If he is hiding something this thing [the lie-detecting software] would have spiked way down here. He is being truthful, totally truthful. He is a man with integrity and he talked directly about not knowing any incident he is accused of.”
Instead, Ward found that Cain’s 4th accuser Sharon Bialek was lying when she said, “He suddenly reached over put his hand on my leg under my skirt and reached for my genitals he also grabbed my head brought it towards his crotch.”
“I don’t think she is fabricating her meetings” with Cain, said Ward. “But, she is fabricating what transpired.”
Ann Coulter points out that the accusers have a common Chicago nexus, via Axelrod and other Chicago Obamites: http://www.anncoulter.com/
“Suspicions had already fallen on Sheila O’Grady, who is close with David Axelrod and went straight from being former Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley’s chief of staff to president of the Illinois Restaurant Association (IRA), as being the person who dug up Herman Cain’s personnel records from the National Restaurant Association (NRA). The Daley-controlled IRA works hand-in-glove with the NRA. And strangely enough, Cain’s short, three-year tenure at the NRA is evidently the only period in his decades-long career during which he’s alleged to have been a sexual predator.”
