Sunday Devotional

Holy Spirit1

Beloved: I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God that you have through the imposition of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control. So do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord, nor of me, a prisoner for his sake; but bear your share of hardship for the gospel, with the strength that comes from God.

Take as your norm the sound words that you heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Guard this rich trust with the help of the Holy Spirit that dwells within us.

Another “note” on Conspiracies

“Why do the nations…”

      –from Handel’s Messiah

Psalm 2 (NIV)
Why do the nations conspire
  and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth rise up
  and the rulers band together
  against the Lord and against
  his anointed, saying,
 “Let us break their chains
    and throw off their shackles.”

The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
  the Lord scoffs at them.
  He rebukes them in his anger
    and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
“I have installed my king
  on Zion, my holy mountain.”

I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:
  He said to me, “You are my son;
    today I have become your father.
  Ask me,
    and I will make the nations your inheritance,
    the ends of the earth your possession.
  You will break them with a rod of iron;
    you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

  Therefore, you kings, be wise;
    be warned, you rulers of the earth.
    Serve the Lord with fear
      and celebrate his rule with trembling.
  Kiss his son, or he will be angry
    and your way will lead to your destruction,
  for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
    Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Still enjoying the theme? Here’s more from Handel’s Messiah.

“The Trumpet Shall Sound…”

1 Corinthians 15:52-53
For the trumpet will sound,
  the dead will be raised imperishable,
  and we will be changed.
For the perishable must clothe itself
  with the imperishable,
    and the mortal with immortality.

Take heart dear readers,
the Lord Almighty is on His throne.
Pleasant dreams tonight. ~ TD

I bring you good news of great joy!

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today … a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:10-12)

The First King Size Bed

King of kings, and Lord of lords

And He shall reign forever and ever

This video was a school computer project from the small Yupiq Eskimo village of Quinhagak, Alaska. It was meant for the other Yupiq villagers of 200, but much to the villagers’ shock, more than 1.5 million people have seen the video. Can you feel their joy?

Hallelujah! Praise Him!

King of Kings

Two years ago, on October 30, 2010, the Opera Company of Philadelphia (OCP) brought together over 650 choristers from 28 participating organizations to perform one of the Knight Foundation’s “Random Acts of Culture” at Macy’s in Center City Philadelphia.

Accompanied by the Wanamaker Organ – the world’s largest pipe organ – the OCP Chorus and throngs of singers from the community infiltrated the store as shoppers, and burst into the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s “Messiah” at 12 noon, to the delight of surprised shoppers.

This event is one of 1,000 “Random Acts of Culture” to be funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation over the next three years. The initiative transports the classical arts out of the concert halls and opera houses and into our communities to enrich our everyday lives.

I prefer to call it a foretaste of the Glory of God.

My Kind of Flash Mob

In the last year, flash mobs have gotten a bad name. I hope this contribution can offset things a little.

The darker the news becomes, the brighter the Good News shines.

Merry Christmas to everyone on FOTM,

The comments on this video’s YouTube site say this magnificent Hallelujah chorus of Handel’s Messiah took place in Seaway Mall, Welland, Ontario, Canada.
