Former congressman and libertarian icon Ron Paul tweeted a startling reaction to the death of SEAL sniper Chris Kyle on Monday:

Chris Kyle’s death seems to confirm that “he who lives by the sword dies by the sword.” Treating PTSD at a firing range doesn’t make sense

What doesn’t make sense is you sticking your nose in something that you know absolutely nothing about. One of the treatments for PTSD involves:

  • Trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy. Cognitive-behavioral therapy for PTSD and trauma involves carefully and gradually “exposing” yourself to thoughts, feelings, and situations that remind you of the trauma. Therapy also involves identifying upsetting thoughts about the traumatic event–particularly thoughts that are distorted and irrational—and replacing them with more balanced picture.

Now I interpret that as saying being around other servicemen and firearms in a controlled environment and exposed to the stigma that triggers PTSD in an attempt to lessen it’s effects.

Even though you are a physician  and you did serve in the Texas Air National Guard, you don’t know jack about PTSD and you need to STFU! I hope the next time you feel the need to dishonor a hero and a highly decorated veteran, that he or one brothers in arms introduces your head to your rectal cavity.

Kyle and a friend were both killed by a veteran struggling with PTSD while working with him at a gun range on Saturday.

The former Marine, Eddie Ray Routh, turned his weapon on the other two men and shot them at close range, according to news accounts.

Kyle was the author of the best-selling “American Sniper,” which detailed his time as a record-holding SEAL sniper.

Paul has a long history of being opposed to American military intervention abroad.

  1. That pretty much sums up why Ron Paul didn’t get my support. Some forms of evil must be resisted with force. Fortunately, it appears his son, Rand, doesn’t hold an identical position. (please correct me if I’m wrong)

  2. Well said, TD. Ditto!

  3. As far as my experiences go w / Veit Nam vets go they do not brag about how many they killed……Hell , they don’t want to talk about it period .

    • The WW2 vets I knew were the same way. It was something horrible they wanted to remain in the past.

      • My wife and I go camping with a group about once a month . One of the guys flew choppers in Nam . THE ONLY WAY HE WILL TALK ABOUT WHAT HE SAW IS IF HE IS DRUNK ON HIS ASS . I do believe this man who was killed ( Chris Kyle ) is/was trying to make a name for himself . Remember , he was the one who made the accusation that he and Jesse Ventura had an incident in a bar and Jesse said it never happened . No police reports were filed . So what the hell happened :????

  4. This is so bizarre. I mean, why in the world would Ron Paul say something so completely stupid? I am by no means a Ron Paul supporter, but I can’t imagine any politician saying something so completely ignorant. Maybe he needs to remember that twitter is not the best medium for every message as it is limited to only 140 characters. If he had something to say about this particular topic, I can only imagine that he could have better communicated his message via a different medium.

  5. “War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.” –John Stuart Mill

    Hey, Ron Paul…

  6. ”Treating PTSD at a firing range doesn’t make sense”

He obviously wasn’t reading the story correctly. He wasn’t “treating” at the firing range if I remember correctly. The guy just showed up there when Kyle was there with another person.

  7. I am no Ron Paul sympathiser or supporter, but I agree with the person above about certain mediums not being adequate for vocalizing our thoughts. If it doesn’t allow room for elaboration often times things we may not mean to be taken a certain way often can be misconstrued later on.

Also I have learned written words you really have to discern usage of carefully as they have no body language or vocal inflection attached to them therefore when they are read by a recipient it is easy for misunderstandings and communication breakdowns to occur.

I have come across this is in my business when corresponding with customer service and sales inquiries via email rather than over a phone call. It always ends up with me apologizing profusely because I either misinterpret the customer or they misinterpret me.

People also need to watch how they piece together scripture or quote it. Last week I watched a preacher on tv whom only gave part of a chapter in Mosaic law, but left out the important second half which would have completely changed his message and sermon. I felt he was this misleading his congregation and was annoyed that he did so.

  8. This has all the possibilities of being more of a cluster – f#$$ than Sandy Hook …..and that’s saying something !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. japoa you said something I was thinking. Suppose the powers-that-be (PTB’s) wanted Kyle dead for whatever reason, to shut him up because of what he knows, to place blame on these crazy war veterans: “See they are all crazy they can’t be allowed to have or be around GUNS,” etc. This government, it’s not ours any longer, is attempting to disarm us and who don’t they want to have access to weapons? Ex-G.I.’s with combat experience. You’re right, it is more fishy than Sandy Hook or a tuna sandwich.

  10. now there is a report that the shooter never left camp in iraq but was heavy into drugs was put in mental hospital twice this from active duty marine who knew shooter humm maybe more to this than meets the eye

    • Maybe those drugs were psychoactive drugs prescribed by his shrink. There doesn’t seem to be anywhere in the equation nutritional deficiencies that cause emotional/mental problems. The horrid drugs loaded onto these soldiers with poor quality pretend food, poisonous GMO “so-called” foods that are chemical laden and filled with pesticides/herbicides/fungicides/antibiotics/hormones, etc. We do not have any DRUG DEFICIENCY diseaes and detoxing and eating clean organic foods. Taking 3-4grams of omega-3 EPA/DHA Fatty acids can reverse depression and suicidal tendencies.

Another thing to think about is did this event actually happen or was it a fabrication and propagated by our bought and paid for media? Athey have been trying to peg veterans as dangerous and pushing this in the media now makes me wonder if it was created to add to the firestorm of taking away gin rights.

  11. I must admit in the moment I first saw the report, the exact same scripture came to my mind. Of course, I don’t do twitter and am not a celebrity. I was not familiar with what Chris Kyle had been doing with his life. I was only familiar with the book and the Jesse Ventura controversy. I cannot stand in judgment of another as I am only able to account for my own actions. It did seem as though he was trying to work some things out.

I also have little knowledge of what therapy IS best from those that suffer PTSD. I grew up an army brat and pro military. My father did a tour in Vietnam and never talked about any of it. I have a few buddies that served in battle and it definitely changed them. But I know the government isn’t doing much to take care of veterans. They really don’t do much to care for their enlisted either. Actually, after much research and the blessed FOIA, I don’t think there is much about our government I CAN respect anymore. I know not to ever trust them.

After more investigation, I am going to side with those that are pointing to the PTB as having been involved. I do not trust we will get a real investigation IF that was the case. After all, most folks don’t know the government was found guilty in a court of law for MLK’s murder.

FWIW, I wrote in Dr Paul this past November as I do support the Liberty movement and his views regarding foreign policy and monetary policy. It was a long shot (no pun intended), I know, but I had to go with my heart. He also has plenty of support from the military, both active AND retired and did actually serve this country. That puts him way above the rest of ‘public servants’. Even so, he would have known this tweet would be controversial. Does he actually do his own tweets? I guess we’ll get plenty of coverage to peruse in the next few days…

  12. also in the yahoo news today chris kyle was apparently in the midst of churning out a new book.

  13. Congressman Ron Paul voted for sodomy in the military.

  14. Ron Paul, you’re a putz!

  15. I question whether Dr. Paul actually authored that “tweet.” High profile people often delegate the management of social media to others. I disagree with the spirit of the “tweet” . If I’m not mistaken, it’s based on the scripture in Matthew 26 where the Lord Jesus Christ rebukes Peter for drawing his sword against the soldiers who came to arrest the Lord in the Garden of Gethsemane.

    • Yes, that scripture is in Matthew 26. It is often cited as an anti war/gun/weapon meme. I understand it more as a misplacement of one’s faith.

Simon Peter was a zealot. Today he’d be called an anarchist or terrorist. The Lord rebukes him in that account and says He could summon legions of angels if it was a matter of resistance. Essentially, he scolded Peter for trusting in physical means of warfare.

The other 3 gospels give a different perspective on the same event. Mark tells of the event without the rebuke. Luke tells of Jesus healing the victim’s severed ear. John actually gives us Simon Peter as the one who wields the sword, gives us the fact it’s the right ear, and even names the victim.

John’s account also scolds Peter for going against the Father’s will.

  16. Don’t ever expect to remain free men if your not willing to fight for truth and justice. Even The Lord has proven this truth to be self evident in the bible when he returns the second time to put an end to wickedness.

  17. Old Poor Richard

Dr. Ron Paul is one of the very few politicians left in the USA who actually supports the Second Amendment unequivocally.

The thing is, Ron Paul is a man of God and a man of principle, and will not forsake the people who depend on the Second Amendment to restrict the government from illicitly taking their God-given right to bear arms. He will continue to support your gun rights even as you attack him for making the common sense observation that profoundly disturbed people should temporarily be kept from exposure to firearms until they are well. He’s a wise, no nonsense man and a medical doctor.

And, by the way, Dr. Paul clarified that his tweet referred to US government’s illegitimate war-mongering causing thousands of men to become temporarily impaired due to the horrible conditions they are wrongfully exposed to. He was not making a slur against the shooting victims who had good intentions, but was slurring the government-caused situation which caused the shooter his temporary mental illness.
