Anti-gun robbery victim rescued by armed Good Samaritans

Drew Karedes reports for Houston’s KHOU 11 News, Jan. 11, 2013:

A couple of strangers came to the rescue when a man was robbed at gunpoint. Now, the victim wants to say thank you to the Good Samaritans.

Police believe the criminal who was canvassing a neighborhood in the 2500 block of Wichita near Hermann Park had no idea what he was in for when he picked his target.

The victim in this case had just walked back to his car from a bar around the corner.

Kevin Dorsey says he hadn’t even closed his car door Thursday night when a man wearing all black and a ski mask put a gun to his chest. The man took Dorsey’s wallet, cell phone and car keys.

After he was robbed, Dorsey began running down the street and says two men in a Mercedes asked him what had happened.

Dorsey told them and they not only caught up with the suspect, but they started shooting at him.

The suspect fired back. In the end, the two witnesses turned vigilantes won and took down the bad guy.

“I don’t believe in guns,” said Dorsey. “I don’t own a gun. I’m totally at the mercy of my saviors. They obviously sent two angels to help me. These people protected me when I couldn’t protect myself.”

After the robber had been shot, police say he jumped over a fence and was attacked by a German Shepherd. That attack prevented him from getting away.

The suspect, identified as Christopher Hutchins, is being treated at Ben Taub Hospital. He’s expected to recover.

  1. Lucky for him! As for me, I’m not going to be waiting for others to help me out in a sticky situation, no way, no how.

  2. Fantastic!! Blessings, Andy

  3. Anti-gun people will never learn until it’s too late.

  4. Why aren’t the “Good Samaritans” pictured or named? Why aren’t the police looking for these people who shot someone? Wake up sheeple!

  5. “The suspect fired back. In the end, the two witnesses turned vigilantes won and took down the bad guy.” Vigilante?? Excuse me? The reporter needs to retract that…idiot….they weren’t vigilante’s, they were armed, properly, and responsible citizens that did what needed to be done in the absence of law enforcement…this is exactly what the right to own and carry a gun can do for us…it is one of the many reasons that have been given throughout this nation’s history as to why we have guns and why we have the right to own and carry them…

As for the anti-gun guy, he should rethink his views…maybe next time there won’t be someone to step in and help…

“After the robber had been shot, police say he jumped over a fence and was attacked by a German Shepherd. That attack prevented him from getting away.” — AWESOME!

  6. Ha ha ha, it just doesn’t get any better than this truly cosmic/divine justice: “As you sowed, so will you reap….”

  7. So, is the victim still anti-gun? He should not expect armed people to protect him unless he is willing to take personal responsibility for his own protection. What these two armed individuals did was a selfless act, a great kindness to a fellow human being in great difficulty. It would be the height of hypocracy and downright immoral for Mr. Dorsey to continue down the same old anti-gun road, putting down more and more unreasonable burdens upon lawful gun owners. If indeed Mr. Dorsey still opposes gun rights, it would not surprise me one iota.

  8. we’re all cut out for different things; judge not lest you be judged as well. what a raft of silly comments! someone expressed words and now this has global and transcendant value? would it be better if your feelings hurt less? is this 8th grade? the man was GRATEFUL and HUMBLE, two divine qualities.

this wasnt meant to be a ANTI GUN testimony..thats what the reporters titled it..Im not a anti gun activist im just a person who believes that God Can and Will protect me as you see he did. People need guns for this type of situation and for protection i get that. We need Guns for protection I Get that

for everyone who reads about this ..It if for you to realize there is a God and he WILL fight your battles. stories like this do not end up this way. not for strangers to risk their lives for me. And the German Shephard is the Icing on the cake!

I am GRATEFUL yes and HUMBLED yes
Just find inspiration in the testimony dont pick it apart and look at it for something it is not.

    • Mr. Dorsey, I thank you sir, for setting the record straight and I am happy the outcome of your encounter turned out favorable for you. Sadly, some are not so lucky in these types of encounters as I am sure you know. Please accept my apologies for coming across as judgmental in my earlier comments above. I should have known better. Unfortunately, media has an agenda that is often less than objective and less than honest as they spin events in order to support their world views. That is patently unfair to you because it paints you with their brush and misleads the rest of us into thinking you are something that you clearly are not.

Again, thank you for your heartfelt reply in setting the record straight.

      Regards,
      Randy
