Senate bill to ban “assault weapons” incl. handguns

We knew it was coming.

Now, it’s here.

When the 113th Congress convenes in a week on January 3, 2013, long-time gun control advocate Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Ca) will introduce a bill, provisionally called the “2013 Feinstein Assault Weapons Legislation,” to restrict our Second Amendment right to bear arms.

At this point, we don’t have the bill’s number or a formal name. All we have is this summary of the proposed legislation from Feinstein’s website:

1. Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:

  • 120 specifically-named firearms
  • Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one military characteristic
  • Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds

2. Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:

  • Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test
  • Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test
  • Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans

3. Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.

4. Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by:

  • Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment
  • Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes and
  • Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons

5. Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:

  • Background check of owner and any transferee;
  • Type and serial number of the firearm;
  • Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
  • Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
  • Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration

A pdf of the bill summary is available here.

Gosh, do you think Diane Feinstein’s proposed ban will be applied to her armed guards? [Snark]

  1. I think the DNA of all our elected officials, including (cough,cough), the great imposter should be checked to find genetic mutations revealing evidence and common ties to psychoses, violent behavior and the incessant bald-faced lies that are spewed to the American public on a daily basis like so much vomit.

  2. she will be in the top ten~ “Treason” lineup. They can move at lightspeed with their communist agenda,all of their nonsense is falling on deaf ears. The time is getting close to remove all of these criminals. The “Constitution” is thee “Sacred Law” of the land, and will be upheld by the people. All the “useful idiots” had better get their plastic bags-(the ones they had to have for the enviroment,that last a lifetime in a landfill) and fill them up with rocks and sticks so they can protect theirselves. You know,watch the muzzies in the mid-east, start practicing so you can throw pretty good! When the dollar goes bust,and milk and eggs go up to 10$ or so, the looting will start~ well just hope your bags are full by then and your aim is good.

  3. Nothing like not letting a crisis go to waste.

  4. Well at least one industry is booming….

  5. White Knuckle Driver

    One word (or two if you’re from the south): Noncompliance

  6. sorry im not playing the game this time i will not obey

  7. The “thumb hole stock” thing is nuts as it sweeps up the most serious—the very top end—of the match rifles as well as the vaunted vintage beauties such as the Win 52D International.

  8. Can’t sell or give your evil “assault weapon” away, but I’m sure they’ll gladly let you turn it in for destruction… which is what’ll happen when an owner dies– police will just get it. (Fully automatic weapons are not controlled as tightly.)

    • P.S. Interesting language: “legally possessed on date of enactment” doesn’t mean manufactured on or before that date, but that YOU (not somebody else) owned it and so the grandfathering on the weapon doesn’t apply if it would belong to someone else because THEY didn’t own it on the date of enactment. (See how those slippery left/liberal lawyers who craft literally accurate statements that actually mislead operate.) Heads up, gun owners– they’re out to shaft you!

      • P.P.S. But ATF and DHS will sure be able to round you up and take your evil “assault weapon” at will with all that info you have to provide. Just like in England before that took all the privately-owned weapons.

        • What about crazy people who kill folks with knives, dynamite or just burning down big buildings full of people… why aren’t they in there? Oh, right, they’re a valuable Democrat constituency and lobby. My bad.

  9. Why is it that the people who will pass these bills have dedicated armed guards protecting them with full auto weapons? It is easy to be for the ban of weapons when you are exempt . Kind of like cutting the check of medicare and SSI when these same people all ready give you a big check every month tax free.

  10. And here is a quote the lovely Ms. Feinstein said in 1995.

    “I was very lucky, but I thought of what might have happened. Later the same group shot out all the windows of my home and I know the sense of helplessness that people feel. I know the urge to arm yourself, because that’s what I did. I was trained in firearms. When I walked to the hospital when my husband was sick, I carried a concealed weapon. I made the determination that if somebody was going to try to take me out, I was going to take them with me.”

  11. when milk reaches $8 a gallon, I wouldnt reccomend coming to my house to look in my refridgerator that’s all I’m saying.
