Creation: Peacock in flight

Have you ever seen a peacock in full flight?

I haven’t.

The only peacocks I’ve ever seen are in zoos, on the ground or perched in a tree.

Here’s a rare pic of a flying peacock.

Isn’t he magnificent? Makes me think of the mythical phoenix.

The name peacock is actually what we call the male of the Peafowl species. Peafowl are three Asiatic species of flying bird in the genus Pavo of the pheasant family, Phasianidae, best known for the male’s extravagant eye-spotted tail, which it displays as part of courtship. The male is called a peacock, the female a peahen, and the offspring peachicks. The adult female peafowl is grey and/or brown. Peachicks can be between yellow and a tawny color with darker brown patches.

Peafowl are forest birds that nest on the ground but roost in trees. They are terrestrial feeders. Peafowl are omnivorous and eat most plant parts, flower petals, seed heads, insects and other arthropods, reptiles, and amphibians.

  1. Wow! :o

  2. Now that I never knew ..Go figure..LOL

  3. He is magnificent. I’ve never really liked peacocks even though they are beautiful. I was about five years old at a restored village where they ranged freely and one chased me. My brother rescued me but I ‘ve distrusted them since. Gee, almost sixty years later, I might need to give them more respect.

  4. Oh, Eowyn, in response to your query, “Have you ever seen a peacock in full flight?” I can honestly reply “Yes, and it lives in the White House!” More seriously, my former wife has peacocks on her 12 acres, and they are very loud night & day. I sympathise w/hrmfc, as they are often defensive, as do geese, and can intimidate smaller people.

  5. Very impressive! Lucky photographer to have captured such photos!

  6. I could almost swear these photos were taken at Sahuaro Ranch Park in Glendale , Az. I worked itn he hisotricakl house there, and there is a huge park around it with very tall date palms, other trees, and also some antique grapefruit trees. (People are encouraged to p ickt he grapefruit when it is ripe, and man is is ever sweet~ Anyway, they keep quite a few peacocks there who have run of the park. They are a lot of fun to wtch.

  7. oops sorry for the huge typos

  8. New to me, always seen them just walking! Very awesome!
