  1. I am trying to avoid the “One World Stop and Shop” all together. They gave huge amounts to the illegal POS campaign.

    • Tina:

It was Samuel Rawlings Walton, 44-y-o grandson of the conservative founder of Wal-Mart, who gave $300,000 to an Obama SuperPAC. In contrast, other Walton clan members have spent big in favor of conservative and Republican causes for years. An uncle and two aunts, for example, gave five- and six-figure donations to super PACs backing Mitt Romney and one of his GOP challengers, Jon Hunstman Jr.

I wouldn’t punish all Wal-Mart stores for the action of one member of the Walmart clan.

      • Our son-in-law worked for Wal-Mart back in the Eighties when he was in high school. He worked on the loading dock. One day an older man came and sat with them on the loading dock, sharing lunch and conversation. At the time no one knew who he was–the man was Sam Walton!

        • This was the same tactic I used in my daze [sic] as managerial consultant during the late Eighties, but for the most part, the staff knew who I was. Over time I found that the best way to understand the reality of any business operation is to start at the most basic part of the business and go through it entirely. The owners of the business who had hired me were always surprised that I wanted to see the canning/potting area of the nursery, as they never thought about it. But, every business is built from the ground up, and if basic activities are neglected, it will falter and fail.

      • this we could look at in a positive light. But….. the amount of small business owners put out of business is very disheartening. Jobs lost. We just need to get America back up and running again, put the Chinese out of business monopoly in America.

  2. I have had little hair up top since my mid 30′s and I would NEVER trade my cue ball look for any of these ‘doo doos’.

I have sullied myself with going to Walmart three times in the last 8 years or so. That is too much for me. I am willing to pay a tad more at smaller, regional, locally run businesses where I know the owners, managers and employees.

  3. LOL – This is why I shop at Target.

The prices really aren’t all that much higher, and you don’t feel like you have wandered into the middle of a circus freak-show while you are shopping.

    • Ditto and Amen, Dave! Target’s finally come to Canada by its purchase of the old Zeller’s store chain. We have one going in at the Tillicum Mall, and the company’s spending millions to completely refurbish that dated venue. My main reason to go to WalMart is for reasonable groceries, but the new Target will be half the drive, and may have some groceries as well, since the old Zeller’s did. Any way one looks at it, it’s a win-win all around!

  4. Trust me on this, GF, you do NOT belong there w/them, but you –as were I and many others reading this– are thrown in helter-skelter. That’s why the New Testament has so much on ‘discriminate’ and ‘discrimination’. The original Greek did NOT mean ‘racially oriented’: it meant that we were to cultivate what most today will call ‘taste’ and ‘insight’, so we could better perceive the reality we looked at or heard.

  5. and this is for the ultimate one: “Excuse me, but do you have my dog in there?”
