The Great Flood That Everyone Forgot

There is an anonymously-authored article that has gone viral because it perfectly articulates what many Americans think. It was posted on the Arizona Tea Party website, among other places.

The article is about the Great Flood of 2009. That spring, the Red River hit a record level of 40.8 feet and flooded wide swaths of North Dakota and Iowa.

What’s that, you say? What great flood of 2009?

I can’t blame you, because I spent more than half an hour this morning “googling” for news on the flood, but found very little — which just goes to show the article is right.

By the way, the same article can be written about the Great Floods of 2011 along the Missouri River.

H/t beloved fellow Joseph.

The Great Flood That Everyone Forgot

Seems like there is a big difference in attitudes when it comes to geography

After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, Louisiana in 2005, the media blamed the lack of response on the Bush administration’s dislike of black people. Can we then conclude that the lack of media coverage and response by the Obama administration that Obama doesn’t like white folks?

Where are the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and North Dakota and helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is good old Michael Moore?

Why is the media NOT asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn’t solved this problem?

Where are the FEMA trucks and trailers and food services?

Why isn’t the Federal government moving Iowa people into free hotels in Chicago and Minneapolis?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines?

Where are Sean Penn, Bono, and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes, cases of beer and television sets?

When will we hear Iowa Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a ‘vanilla’ Iowa because that’s what God wants?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of shootings at rescuers, of rapes and murder?

Where are all the people screaming that Barack Obama hates white, rural people?

Where are Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Oprah, and Ray Coniff Jr?

How come you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again?

Where are the gov’t. bail out vouchers? The government debit cards?

There must be one hell of a big difference between the value of the people of Iowa and value of the people of Louisiana.

****

And indeed there is!

From the U.S. Census Bureau:

Iowa:

  • Total population in 2009: 3,007,856
  • 93.9% white; 2.8% black

North Dakota:

  • Total population in 2009: 646,844
  • 91.9% white; 1.2% black

New Orleans:

  • Total population in 2006: 223,388
  • 28.1% white; 67.3% black

  1. Many thanks, Eowyn, for getting this out where the sheeple can try to think about it.
As you know, it came from a trusted source, and the only reason I can think of for it not being more available is that it’s not “politically correct” in the current ways it would need to be.

Actually, I think it was 2008 if I remember correctly. My family lives in Iowa and I remember it was a bad…bad year. My youngest granddaughter was to be born in Ia. City, U of I Hospital, 50 miles away from my daughters home, as my daughter is a heart patient and they wouldn’t touch her at the close hospitals. She had a scheduled C-Section and interstate 80 was closed up until the day she had to deliver. It was a stress filled time because not only that, but she had to change apartments, pick the rest of her children up from out of state and my brother passed away in Florida.

Nope…can’t forget THAT year! It was horrible!

  3. i like the pic with the cows standing on the deck watching the water flow on by.
yeah the media response has been all but zero. let whitey fend for himself because liberals are to busy altering history. its the same situation with black on white crime which is swept under the rug and not reported as compared to the tiniest infraction against blacks which garners national news coverage.

  4. All questions posed are excellent!!!!! Down here in Texas we have had millions of acres decimated by fire. But because Obama is pissed at our state, he won’t declare the area a disaster, which it most certainly is. This included farm and ranchland, and many peoples’ homes. We are ugly step children here? Well guess what, even some of our Mexican population are going to take issue with Obama come next election. I hope he likes his change, and his hopes for another job, where he can act like a petulant little boy as he has behaved during his presidency. What a disservice our press and the libtards perped on this nation, when they elected him.

I saw a Youtube that one of your most senior state senators, a hispanic man, recently switch to the Republican Party. He said his views are the same as ever; but the Democratic Party has changed so dramatically it no longer reflected his beliefs.

  5. We white people residing in flyover country only exist to fund government.

You know that old philosophical query, “If a tree falls in the forest and there’s nobody to hear it, did it make a sound”?

The same kind of thinking can be applied to any occurence, ” If there’s a flood in North Dakota and the media doesn’t cover it, did really happen or, does anyone care?”

  7. Taxpayers who vote Republican, are patriotic and believe in the Constitution, what Democrat needs ‘em?

Sorry. The flood was in 2008. Remind me again who was President in 2008?

  9. Check out a site called “Before its News”. The Martians are interfering with my site again! Telling me it’s not a valid server. Wow! God bless all.
